\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tLet me make one things clear: The game IS fun, and worth your time. It has uniqueness that should be praised, and I can see the makings of a great game in it. However, its currently VERY lacking in a few fundamental ways that means I can't give it a positive review just yet.
Positives:
-The aesthetics are fantastic and I want the art team to be my new parents. 10/10, no notes.
-The Allied Commands system is very unique (to me at least) and I'm really enjoying the skill ceiling involved with weaving it into your combos.
-Ruadh has very impactful hits that make you feel like a boss.
Negatives:
-Despite the allies being such a huge part of the game, it feels like they have no impact whatsoever. Here is my biggest gripe for the game as it stands: You are not playing an army battling simulator, you are playing a "hit the big guy while worthless npc's stand around you" simulator. There is literally no benefit to targeting the minor enemies in battle 9 times out of 10. All you have to do is rush down the large units and then move on. It feels like a complete waste to have all these aoe attacks when I can quite literally walk past the entire horde, smoke one single dude, and that captures the entire area. I would have much preferred it if you had to kill a mix of big and small targets to capture an area. Additionally, your ally npc's are not nearly aggressive or damaging enough to be worthy of note. This is by far the weakest part of the game when it could easily have been the strongest.
-Upgrade items vary wildly in quality. The item that heals you after every battle, and the one that makes enemies explode on death are invaluable, while the rest are just mostly just impactless stat boosters. I would really like the items to be fewer, but more game changing.
-The clan boons are very imbalanced. Considering that the game is just "run up and kill the big guy" it completely invalidates the clans who focus on AOE damage. Furthermore, I wished there was more synergy between picking multiple clans. Most of the buff are just "make this one move stronger and apply a unique status effect". Its very flat. and a bit of a letdown since I just finished Sworn, which is all about build synergy.
-The escalating threat level is a neat idea, theoretically forcing you to balance getting lots of buffs vs making the enemies stronger, but I rarely felt like it came up. I usually just took a normal route to the boss, and anything more than that felt like pointless dithering.
-Last but not least, there are a lot of issues with visual clarity and hitstun inconsistencies. The indicator for when an enemy is about to attack can get easily lost behind visual effects once you get boons on every attack, and it can be very hard to tell what attack will stagger the enemy vs what they will hyper armor though, leading to me getting hit a LOT by attacks I thought I was safe from.
Listen, I know I'm being very negative here, but that just because I do like the game at its core, and I sincerely hope that airing my gripes will help inform the creators as to what can potentially be adjusted while the game is still in early access. Good music, interesting visuals and a decent amount of content for a 25$ game.
12 different movesets (of 4-5 different combos) as of right now, one per weapon per hero.
Has a satisfying parrying system (failed parry results in a block), stamina for blocking, cooldown on dodge (different per hero) and a nice amount of items to buy/drop.
Upgrades come from 7 trees to improve your offense and defense, much like the gods in hades
Extra spice comes from having a group of man at arms supporting you, which you can command to a degree, you can also just let them do their thing, though they certainly can make a difference
Has tons of fodder, captains which can scale quite high, a bunch of elites and 3 boss fights
Surprisingly the bosses are the easiest part of the game after you get going
It is different in a very good way
Has the ingredients of a great title and it hooked me despite not really being my type of a game

This game feels like it does everything right in terms of the musou genre.
The characters feel simple to play but individually different, the music absolutely rocks, the way each weapon plays differently instead of one being strictly better than the others and I could keep going.
Most importantly, it gets the one thing right that makes a good musou game great. The objectives! There are plenty of objectives to do, and you are often required to move mid objective to clear another one, keeping that great tension of paying attention to what is on the minimap as important as what is currently in front of you.
Game has some performance issues in the end areas on the steamdeck, though I am honestly amazed the devs got something like this running so well in the first place. Bugfixes are quick, I submitted a bug and it got patched within a day.
However, a big problem here is the roguelite aspects. Do not get me wrong, what is here is already a pretty solid base. Unfortunately several of the game's systems currently feel lacking.
First are the emblems (the boons of this game or whathever you want to call it). While they initially felt great, overtime you realize you are funelled into only a handful of builds. The builds certaintly have identity and that is great, but they lack impact. Anything my boon choices do ultimately feel like they just power me up slightly. I wish there was more variety within an emblem tree. If i take the poison trail dash, it would be cool if later upgrades let me choose to make that trail bigger, or let me combo with the vortex emblem to create vortexes inside the path. Imstead, all poison emblem paths just lead to stacking more combust, which by itself also feels lackluster as the damage even fully funneling into that single emblem feels negligable.
Let us get more broken and crazy, and leave the balancing aspects to the postgame difficulty tiers!
A similiar problem I have with itemization, though frankly this is more of a personal issue with this style of itemization in general.
The game takes after Risk of Rain in the sense that you get money for killing things, but only some things like captains. Each level has chests you can open with said currency, but its a completely random item. This means that you dont get to dictate what item types you are stacking. The characters feel simple to play but individually different, the music absolutely rocks, the way each weapon plays differently instead of one being strictly better than the others and I could keep going.
Most importantly, it gets the one thing right that makes a good musou game great. The objectives! There are plenty of objectives to do, and you are often required to move mid objective to clear another one, keeping that great tension of paying attention to what is on the minimap as important as what is currently in front of you.
Game has some performance issues in the end areas on the steamdeck, though I am honestly amazed the devs got something like this running so well in the first place. Bugfixes are quick, I submitted a bug and it got patched within a day.
However, a big problem here is the roguelite aspects. Do not get me wrong, what is here is already a pretty solid base. Unfortunately several of the game's systems currently feel lacking.
First are the emblems (the boons of this game or whathever you want to call it). While they initially felt great, overtime you realize you are funelled into only a handful of builds. The builds certaintly have identity and that is great, but they lack impact. Anything my boon choices do ultimately feel like they just power me up slightly. I wish there was more variety within an emblem tree. If i take the poison trail dash, it would be cool if later upgrades let me choose to make that trail bigger, or let me combo with the vortex emblem to create vortexes inside the path. Imstead, all poison emblem paths just lead to stacking more combust, which by itself also feels lackluster as the damage even fully funneling into that single emblem feels negligable.
Let us get more broken and crazy, and leave the balancing aspects to the postgame difficulty tiers!

Another problem i have, is all the boons/buffs you gain dont buff your character much, you have to do everything just to get a good amount of boons, and i honestly barely notice it.

What this game does right, it really does well, combat, abilities, vibes...all of it is great. But there are some major gripes I have that keeps me from giving this a positive review. Again there is the foundation of a fantastic game here, but there are just some things that keep me from actually playing it.
Which are:
1) Runs take too long. Rougelikes live or die on the gameplay loop of being able to make incremental progress. Too often a 40min run can go south only for you to not have enough currency to make any type of upgrades, with in and of themselves are not substantial enough to feel the power progression necessary. The loop itself just feels at odds with its own systems and therefore feels bad. Personal recommendation to the dev team: Buff the skill and item upgrades, to give that sense of true progression in this genre.
2) Synergy of abilities is lacking in a number of areas, too many powersets feel like overlaps or too similar to really add any kind of build variety. Part of the fun in games like this is figuring out how to make the synergy of a run work to your favor which can create some busted combos. There just doesn't seem to be anything like that here at least in the hours I have played, and that also makes the gameplay loop feel bad. Which is a shame because the combat really is a great mix of action rougelite and musoulite.
3) Unlocking new characters is a slog. Leveling them up is a bigger slog, and this piggy backs on points 1 and 2 for the game being at odds with itself in actually being fun.
4) Allies, are functionally useless. This is where the game isn't quite sure what it wants to be, in a musou game the character is the tide turning force, the one person army that racks up 500 kills per battle. You are the legend made manifest. This game WANTS you to be that but also try to give you allies to bring along that you cannot really interact with aside from some passive buffs. Dynasty Warriors Origins solved for this by still making you the legend, but allowing you to do team up attacks, and your allied commands felt more impactful there. In this game, they just don't do enough to really feel worth investing in. Especially when leveling them up shares some other currencies you could use for other things.
I bought the game, I don't regret supporting the developers because there is something good here. But I can't recommend the game at this stage because it simply isn't as fun as it could be, and you will functionally get the same experience playing the demo. They’re addressing the issue of reviving your buddies using your HP, but HP itself is already one of the biggest problems in the game. The amount of money it takes to revive and heal is way too high for what you actually get in return.
Instead of fixing the core HP, healing, and revive economy, it feels like they’re making changes around the problem without actually addressing the problem itself.

All of us have to be William Wallace because we can't unlock any new characters. We can't even be William Wallace with different colors or skins either cuz we all have the exact same gear and look.
There is a shocking lack of upgrades or skill choices. Instead you go through missions and get the required currency and then you simply unlock choices from top to bottom. No tough choices. You just unlock a tiny bit more health or damage or block as you work your way down the tree -- not really a tree cuz trees have branches. A trunk maybe.
And lastly we put in almost 10 hours each and we NEVER BEAT ACT 1. Not once. Maybe 3 dozen or more runs and we got to the Act 1 boss two times. Rush to the boss or go through more stages to power up. Didn't matter.

The game is missing some important content even for EA (currently only 3 out of 5 playable characters are released even though this game has a 4 player multiplayer system.) The multiplayer itself NEEDS SERIOUS WORK from glitches to balance to item distribution. my experience comes from solo, duo and trio. solo is by far the best way to play the game, as multiplayer naturally nerfs your personal strength due to changes in ally amount per player (which affects your starting powerups). The game's multiplayer system almost feels like its punishing you for playing with other people. on top of this, it feels very much so like there is no trio balance. there's solo balance, duo balance, and then at trio it feels like you're being handed Quad balance with a missing person. Trio is just not good AT ALL and you, again, will be punished for doing it. I'm not sure if there just aren't all the companions in the game or if it just randomly stopped doing the right things but I've only gotten 3 so far even though there's like 7(?). all 3 were acquired early in my playtime and then its like the faucet got turned off. item distribution almost feels like it just doesn't change no matter what you're doing. if a map has 5 chests in solo, then in duos and trios is will also only have 5 chests. I understand we can't have everyone get uber powerful, but it does need to scale up more so that each player can actually feel like they are getting more powerful as the run goes on. currently it feels like splitting items between multiple people is a waste. Go in, let one person get all the good stuff so that SOMEONE on the team is cracked, and pray to the Gods that the other teammates can make it through. Visual Clutter is absolutely a thing in this game and I do not know how I feel about it. Biggest issue is when bosses spawn in at the end of a level, they may spawn in on you, and they will have a comic-esque panel show up to the left and/or right of your screen, taking up about a third of the screen EACH. when playing trios, quads, or late stage levels with multiple bosses, BOTH bosses have these panels show up at the same time, while the bosses themselves can spawn on you, plus voice line subtitles and another image of a boss on it. This means you effectively can only see about a fourth of your screen for the first few seconds which then can lead to you not being able to see and taking damage (and typically a lot of it.) I want to talk about the positives, which there are plenty, but to be honest id rather use this review as a way to highlight the things that actually need to change for this to be an A+ game that it absolutely can be.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Sadly the DEMO isn't available anymore, but that one was great.
Amount of content is not yet where most people would want it for 30 quid, but the devs are active and responding to feedback.

Would like if the game had more options as far as clan buff's and maybe including a ranged hero would be fun.
