First of all a huge shout-out to iron pineapple for promoting these lil' indie games. without his channel i wouldn't have found out about it!
Time: Around 28 hours to get all achievements (that includes playing a part of New Game+).
Difficulty: hard mode
OS: Linux Mint
Soundeffects are okayish. You get enough indicators to understand e.g. that action x is being performed, but don't expect extremely meaty sound effects or alien sounding effects (remember the ps1 logo sound effect? damn, that was one hell of a sound!). Overall it simply does it's job.
That being said, basically all enemies are doable. Apart from those giant laser crabs. Screw those guys! While ii know their weaknesses, it's still not fun fighting these!
Bosses are actually darn cool in terms of visual style and how their style fits into the environment. They do suffer a bit from readability though. Often times it's just better to defend yourself or dodge out of range, then to parry. Overall though, if you got a good setup, they are easy to kill. Only one boss gave me a really hard time and that was Grovekeeper Topoda. Some of the bosses will reappear as normal enemies, but thankfully it wasn't overdone here. I didn't really encounter brutal bullet sponges either. Boss fights are usually done within a few minutes.

Story
Now what is this game about? It's a lil' story about a hermit crab losing his beloved home to a loan shark. In trying to get it back, he quickly finds himself in a treasure hunt that blows into sinister, dark and serious series of events (i don't wanna spoil too much here). The writing and voice acting is actually decent. The characters are likable although sometimes i had the feeling it would fit more as a kid game than an adult game, til' you are reminded of all the dead peeps you will find along the way. Overall it got me hooked to the end.Gameplay
From a gameplay perspective this is a mix of dark souls and spongebob squarepants battle of bikini bottom. It has a lot of jump'n'run elements with the grappling hook you get very early on as well as some cool magic spells, called umami (which funnily enough is the japanese word for a meaty taste). This reminds me heavily of spongebobs bubble skills. You got a dodge button, a block button, normal attack, heavy attack, jump attack, ground slam and even a parry. Oh and you can roll into crates, so all the important ingredients for a dark souls game! What is missing is a stamina bar, but i'm actually glad there is none. You can also level up yourself to increase health, attack, umami or resistance. Although the game makes sure that you cannot become a pure glass cannon or an insane tank (a category can only be leveled up to 30 max and you get lots of items on the way to increase your stats permanently). But there is still enough variety to make very distinct and powerful builds. What really makes this game unique is its shell system. You can change a shell on the fly, depending on what is lying you and each shell may have different abilities, defense, weight, shell hp and so on. You also parry with your shell, by defending with your shell and then jumping out of it when the attack is happening. But don't get too attached to your shell alone as it can break rather quickly. There are also enemies that can use grab attack to bypass your shell. Overall a very interesting mechanic. World and atmosphere
Graphically it reminds me heavily on those old PS2 spongebob games. It has the same vibes, colors, vibrations, the same silliness with water ponds in an underwater world. The world is incredibly detailed with small pieces of human trash the underwater world uses to build their homes with. Paper towels are being used as posh curtains, film rolls are used as fences. Heck the currency in the game consists of micro plastics! And the dev's creativity doesn't stop there. Some shells got some really fine detail to it, like a LEGO brick you can use as a shell, that is called LEGAL brick ingame. A nice side hook to LEGOs nasty lawyer practices to keep up their monopoly (they literally sue peeps if they call a brick from a different brand a LEGO brick). Although the game is rather linear, it still allows for exploration. And boy does it have a lot of small secrets, treasures and unique shells for you to find! Verticality is also at play here, but not as extensively as let's say Elden RIng. Gotta say though, the world map is so frigging cute! Very detailed and very handy as well!Music and soundeffects
As a big fan of music i consider this to be an own important section of a game. And good news, the game kinda nailed it in that department! It has some weird vibes going on at times, but it is always so uniquely flavored that it will never annoy you, at times it will even interest you in what follows. Enemies and bosses
The big grunt for a dark souls game are enemy designs. Another Crab's Treasure does its job good enough by showing off its incredible creativity here (e.g. crabs attacking you with combs or umbrellas, others shooting you with frigging foam animals!), but the fighting feels a bit unresponsive at times. Controls are not as quick to respond as i would like it and often you cannot cancel it, so press too often and you will have your character Krill go through the chain of inputs before finally stopping. In a fast paced fighting game this can quickly mean death if you cannot cancel an attack to crawl back into your shell. Moving around also sometimes feels like you are running on soap. Switching between enemies with your hook also doesn't work well. Sometimes the running button doesnt get registerted after doing certain movesets. Attacks from enemies aren't always easy to ready and can be very sudden. You also got the typical Elden Ring illness: slooooow windup with sudden insta attacks.That being said, basically all enemies are doable. Apart from those giant laser crabs. Screw those guys! Bugs and glitches
Sadly there are a few. It's clear as night and day that this small team almost bit off more than they could chew. It is a rather massive game after all! And they cut some corners in the refinement department. You will notice certain objects popping in and out of existence, frame drops when a new area loads in, enemy ai doing weird ♥♥♥♥ and running off a cliff or your camera spasming out (especially annoying when all you see is a frigging wall or a rock instead of your character and the fight you are in). I also had unreachable loot dropped by enemies, problems with my hook connecting to treasures (yes, you use your frigging hook to dig out treasure!), even though they were right in front of me oh and i sequence broke the game as well. If you explore side paths instead of the main story path you will suddenly talk to NPCs like they are old friends even though you have never seen 'em before. The hook also allows you to reach places you normally shouldn't. On the bright side the game never crashed and overall runs well on Linux. Overall score

This was a frustratingly bad journey. The game is VERY inconsistent and has the worst platforming you can ever try. Really badly designed and the combat is not good enough to play for more than 4 hours in total. The voice acting is exceptionally awkward and the dialogues are also really not interesting nor funny. You'll also be fighting the same 3 enemies the entire damn game. When I reached the last 3'd of the game I just wanted to rush throw to end the damn agony.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI liked everything about this game. A 3D platformer souls-like with nice challanges and a great story. Funny characters and jokes. This game is not a souls-copy, it is a crab-cartoony-gimmicy souls-like game which respects the genre. And also has some new ideas integrated.
I appreciate the little references to other soul games, made me laugh a lot.

Turns out a hermit crab swapping out shells is a cooler and more interesting equipment mechanic than any of FromSoft's tedious upgrade paths. They've also managed to make blocking an interesting playstyle rather than a safety net for players who can't find the dodge button.
It's also surprisingly nuanced and earnest in its satire despite wearing its anxiety about late stage capitalism the anthropocene on its sleeve through rapid fire jokes. And of course the world, characters, voice acting, music and above all the marine life related puns bring as much colour as the hyper-saturated environments.

It's slow, clunky, and you're pretty much locked into just "Swing sword". There's a magic system, but you don't get to choose your spells, so there' basically no point in a magic build.
Visuals were great, and a lot of clever gags and designs. They did constantly beat the player over the head with "Hey, we're destroying our oceans and that's bad". Which is true, but kinda kills any attempt at fun in a game when you're constantly reminded of the depressing state of the world.

the shell mechanic is really fun although when you max upgrade the umami shell ability thats all you use espessially if your going for a hammer build which means I'm currently using only 2 shells in the game. going onto new game + I might change it up.

Cannot compliment this game enough. It has a really funny, yet engaging story, and the combat and build varieties with the shell system is really cleverly done. Aggro Crab absolutely nailed it on this one. I have started to play the game again in NG+, and so far am loving all the little nuggets it is dropping, getting me hooked all over again. 10/10 would recommend.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The artstyle is also really endaring. Not to mention the writing is really interesting. Snarky, sarcastic and humorous. The characters and dialogues are really interesting and kept me engaged till the end. The level design and platforming is really creative and fresh. Really fun and tricky but not too hard to the point that it's not enjoyable. The boss fights might be too easy for some but I think it is the perfect difficulty for me. This is a really fun game. Really brings me back to when I was just having fun playing games when I was a kid. 100% recommend.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

There are secrets and collectables in every corner, so it's really enjoyable and rewarding to explore. There's a good amount of post game content so even after you beat the game there's more to do.
