Honestly at it's core this is a great game and, if you are like me and were recommended this because of Dredge it is not a bad pick up. However, there is a glaring difference between these two. Dredge really hones in the core mechanics and makes little adjustments to it overtime. Dave the Diver adds so many mechanics, and leaves the main gameplay rather bare bones.
I did get overwhelmed by the many farms you end up having, the VIP mini games which replaced the VIP customers. The main story has plenty of mini games to do as well. They are all fine on their own, but at some point they just ruin the overall experience. Which I really hate to say, because this game is so good at it's core but these mini games ruin that.
I think this focus on mini games becomes even more obvious in the DLC, which I abstained from buying because I cannot image how it can be worse than the main game.

The game keeps throwing new things at you at a steady pace, but a lot of it isn't required for the story to progress, giving you a lot of freedom during your playthrough.

There's an insane amount of content here but quantity doesn't come at the expense of quality thankfully. Can be a bit overwhelming if I'm honest albeit not in a bad way. Were I to nitpick I guess there can be times when things are slightly opaque but that could very well be me having a senior moment rather than anything wrong with the game itself per se. The "evil environmentalist" sub plot raises eyebrows, however unless someone is intimately familiar with the background it'll go unnoticed. Since it was discounted because of the sale only set me back $12.99 Canadian and that's very good value for money. Great characters, funny cutscenes, mythical adventures, managing employees, and working a night job because he has to so he can afford to dive. Adventure, combat, mystery, comedy, nice art...I don't know what to say other then I have never played a game like this one before. I'm on my second full playthrough now. At first, I didn't expect much from this game. I thought it would just be a chill game to play in my free time and pass a few hours by BUT... it gets more and more interesting the further you progress.
It's honestly one of the best ADHD friendly games I've played, in the best way possible.
There's always something new happening, so you just don't get bored. The game keeps throwing new things at you to experience.
It's not just fishing, either. You get to run a sushi restaurant, explore the ocean, discover new areas, meet all kinds of characters, play minigames, and so much more. There's an insane amount of variety packed into this game.

I do think the game is just a biiiiit too long, though. I think the final act and much of the middle part of the In the Jungle DLC could have been shortened a bit. But perhaps that's on me for playing so much of this over a short period of time; I played the main game over the course of a week or so. I got bit by the Palworld bug and took a bit of a break, then played through the Jungle DLC over the course of another week. And even with that bit of a break, I do wish I took more of a break between the main game and DLC. It's just a LOT of game, and since there's a lot of content, I was kind of ready to be finished by the end of it.
Glad I finally ended up playing it, though! The Godzilla DLC was neat, the Dredge DLC was REALLY cool, and the Yakuza DLC was pretty surprising what sort of gameplay it added.
