All the other hours are just so boring and repetitive. Whichever corner of the world you'll visit you meet exactly same dressed enemies, with the same weapons, in the same buildings as at the very opposite end of the map. The whole gameplay is about doing the same thing over and over and over. Very limited weapon choice for a game set in space. There is like 7 unique locations and the rest is rinse and repeat, same thing over and over. If someone would force me to pick up that damned floating glitter in that damned towers I would just go mad and never recover. I am so conflicted with this game, on the one hand I think it's great and on the other it's such a disappointment.
"Explore the stars!" Yet someone else has already been there before you; even when you go to the edges of space, you will find other people and man-made objects. Bethesda does not understand why people enjoy No Man's Sky. Some planets you are the first to be on them, with alien life, that's a different design or colour palette from others. Yet in this game, everything is copied and pasted across EVERY planet.
An RNG/ procedural generation game at its core,
I'm a fan of RNG/PROCGEN in games; it helps with replayability and keeps the player engaged. But I have never seen it implemented so poorly in a video game until Starfield.
You have the tech to go truly crazy with the procgen, yet they do not. If you've seen one planet, you have seen them all; it's just rocks with prefab POIs placed in it. And if you're lucky, one of the four alien wildlife.
The POIs are the same, literally the same, copied and pasted around the universe. Same layout, same placement for the enemies, same locked chests in the same places.
It's so wild to me that they think this is OK, the POIs are very blocky in design, so it would be easy to have RNG map layouts, but they do not, at least make a few templates and alternate between them, not just the one.
As others have said, this is a "loading screen simulator". And I would agree, fast travel here, then fast travel there. While they did add being able to fly your ship from one star system to another, it's pointless.
Story and quests,
I will not say much about the main story; while I did enjoy it, it's not the best, and it's handled strangely. I can't say anything else without spoiling.
Side content is interesting, with well-thought-out characters and SOME compelling storylines. But most boil down to "to go here, get or kill this, come back". In a future where cross-galaxy communication exists, why do I have to travel back to speak with the quest giver?
Companions and player choice,
Of the companions, you can get no one who really stands out from the rest; they all somewhat act the same. Redditors and "le wholesome group therapy sessions in human form".
All you ever hear is "I'm here for you" "I've never had a friend like you before."
It would have been nice if one or two were like that, but not all of them, no one has any edge or different personality, it's all very "safe HR speech".

While I do like the design of the enemies, there is such a lack of them that it's unreal. They made a whole galaxy and filled it with 4 types of human enemies, 4 or 5 types of alien wildlife, and 2 types of robots. I'm not joking, it really is that low. They could have made whatever their minds came up with, and that's all?

It has moments of greatness, but I am disappointed in this game. Maybe they can improve in a second game, but I'm not holding my breath.

The quality of content and game is uneven though. It has some truly amazing aspects, and some not so great ones as well. It is not perfect, but what it does do well is so worth it. I've tolerated so much for so long, all in service to what seemed like a progression to repeatable and enjoyable generated game-play. Starfield, though, takes several steps back. The list of problems with this game is extensive, so I'll keep it brief and applicable to the latest DLC (Terran Armada):
1) Failing a persuasion check traps you in a side quest, forcing you to reload.
2) NPC standing in front of you in cockpit traps you in your ship.
3) Enemy AI is beyond stupid. It either shoots at you or it runs to the ends of the map.
4) "Stuck" points exist all over the game on terrain, but are most prominent indoors, effectively trapping you if some enemy locked you "in combat" and then ran halfway around the planet.
I just can't do it anymore. These games are getting worse and worse, and no matter how much I try, I can't stop the tsunami of disappointment that I feel whenever I try to do anything in this game only to run into reload bugs that an intern could fix if Bethesda(MSFT) even cared enough, which they clearly do not.
They received so much community attention in Skyrim that they assumed they didn't need to fix anything. They were wrong, and they've finally broken me of ever, ever buying a game they make again. I loved the Elder Scrolls games but after seeing how badly they did Starfield, I can only imagine the inescapable trainwreck that TES 6 is going to be.

There were some pretty neat side quests as well. I also enjoyed the combat. I never played with mods, but there are a decent number of them out there that you could check out as well. If you like Bethesda games, you should check it out. If you don't like sci-fi style games, it's probably not for you.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI want to like this game, but the user interface is terrible. Keyboard operators are not overloaded, so there's a different command for EVERYthing. I mouse left-handed and keyboard right-handed, so I tried rebinding the controls. There's always some other intermediate interface with its own keys, so it's all a confusing hodgepodge. I came back to it after 2.5 years, hoping for improvement, but there is none. I'm writing this review after reloading a save point from before I chose an outpost landing site. The interface will NOT display the surface resources, despite toggling that scan a few times. I'm uninstalling now. Good luck, Bethesda, and ES6 needs to be a LOT better game engine than this. Take a look at No Man's Sky if you want a good example of a simplified interface that does everything (ship combat, star hopping, and base creation) with a significantly streamlined graphic user interface.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The second major issue is that the keybinds are counterintuitive, some are forced to be bound together for no good reason, (See: flashlight and scanner. they have no business being together).
The menu navigation is also counterintuitive. The fact you can't use "ESC" to back out of ALL menus, is crazy.
It's almost like Bethesda asked itself "How can I be different than other games, and really stand out?" "OH! I know, make the keybinds and menus hard to navigate and learn, then players will be forced to notice how different we are!"
Finally, setting up the buffs and debuffs supposedly didn't save, and I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't been looking in to something else to notice it. At which point... I was so frustrated by all the unnecessary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, that I quit the game.
I recognize I can change those settings at any time, but the fact I went through and already did it, only for it to not take, or somehow not save properly without some kind of OBVIOUS WARNING... again, it's because the menu navigation is counterintuitive for no reason.
And I really wanted to like this game. But, 2 hours in, I wasted so much of that time futzing around in the settings, and the countless misclicks or wasted time trying to find the right keybind.
And why drop me in to a planet, only to have me go back in the menu again and select the port? Why not drop me in, animate the move to the port, and let me dock? Why the extra steps?
Additionally, why drop me out on the far side of the planet, then have me manually move that planet in order to select the port I want. SO MANY EXTRA STEPS THAT WASTE TIME!
I am about to put the whole thing on easy mode just to make up the time the game forces you to waste... WAS what I was planning, but NOW, I think I'll ask Steam for a REFUND.
