There are so many things still broken from launch - like the mission for the ECS Constant and many more. The new "cruise mode" sounds like a great addition until you are forced into using it with no explanation of how to do that.
Added creations cause issues that cause you to lose saved items. You still can't fully trust weapon racks and mannequins to store and display your loot.

Since when did we start relying more on the opinions of influencers than on our own? Starfield is probably the most hated game in history, but is it deserved? To write a competent review, you must first identify its genre. We can't just say a game is terrible because “it's not what I personally wanted.”
Twenty years ago, a game called TES Oblivion was released. But that’s not entirely true, it was actually Skyrim. And a couple of years later, Skyrim with guns came out, and then the real Skyrim came out, and then Skyrim with guns came out again. And for all those 20 years, we played these games and were happy.
Todd Howard created his own genre — the "Bethesda RPG." What does that mean? His games are fundamentally Diablo-like sandboxes where the main activity is clearing handcrafted dungeons. The RPG elements simply give us different ways to level up and clear those areas.
BGS games have never focused on Hollywood plots, deep dialogue, or cinematic exploration. They are built on a simple principle: “Go bring me my family shield from the cave, and in return, I’ll give you my best sword, which you’ll then sell to a merchant for 100 coins.”
What a surprise when, after an hour-long presentation detailing everything, sneaky Todd Howard did it again and released Skyrim in space. Not a space simulator, not a dialogue-driven RPG, not a Souls-like, not GTA, not a story-driven action game—but good old Skyrim.
Starfield is a typical Bethesda game about clearing dungeons in space. The shooting is decent, with a wide variety of weapons, armor, and mods. The progression system feels better than in F4 or Skyrim, though it needs some polish. The dungeons themselves are great—huge, detailed, and packed with secrets, though I’d love to see more complex ones like Forgotten Vale.
As a sandbox, it’s packed with activities: quests, ship-building, outpost decorating, bounty hunting, cargo delivery, mining, resource gathering, farming, exploration, piracy, and much more. But you DON’T HAVE TO do any of it. Todd's games don't hold your hand; if you don't like a mechanic, just move on to something else.
Starfield is NOT a space simulator. No one promised you that. The only major difference from previous BGS titles is the lack of a single world map, which is physically impossible in space.
In Skyrim, you walk to a cave and get attacked by a bear. In Starfield, you fast-travel to a planet, enter a handcrafted cave on a procedurally generated world, and get attacked by pirates in orbit. How is this fundamentally different?
All core content—cities, POIs, and quests is handcrafted. Random generation just decides where to place them. The cities are massive, full of local stories and encounters.
People complain about space travel, but space is EMPTY. You don’t cruise manually; you jump via wormholes. Flying through a loading screen makes physical sense because actual space travel would take months or years. Even sending a radio message across star systems would take years, which is why NPCs ask you to deliver letters in person.
Furthermore, the planet tech is impressive. Planets orbit stars and moons orbit planets in real time with dynamic lighting, biomes, and gravity. (Unlike No Man's Sky, where the skybox merely rotates around fixed planets). In the end, you get orbital fights and gravity jumps. What more could you ask for from a game about clearing dungeons?
Storytelling has never been Bethesda's main strength, but Starfield is a huge leap forward. The main quest and major faction lines are well done. There are radiant quests, but they serve to help you level up and explore. Quests often feature multiple endings, role-playing dialogue, and a solid persuasion system. I especially enjoyed the local stories in the Shattered Space and Free Lanes updates.
Why the hate for the Creation Engine? It runs thousands of mods with RELATIVE stability and offers a complete platform for modders. It allows hundreds of NPCs to have independent schedules, inventories, and AI routines. Locations contain thousands of physical objects that respond to lighting and physics. You can build massive ships and decorate them inside. You can actually "touch the worlds" in Todd Howard's games. No other engine offers this level of interactivity.
The cost of this freedom is a 1-second loading screen.
It is physically impossible to keep this many interactive objects in memory without them; any PC would crash. Besides, Starfield's cities are entirely open, and half the interiors don't require loading screens anyway.
Starfield is a 2023 game, and as Todd said (I’m serious), “just upgrade your PC.” A game of this scale requires at least a 6-core/12-thread CPU and a 2016 Card with 8GB of VRAM. Is that really so much to ask? The game has one of the most advanced lighting systems I’ve ever seen, alongside insanely high-quality textures and models. Personally, on a mid-range graphics card from 2023 (RTX 4060), I have 100–200 FPS. Throughout my entire playthrough, I never encountered a broken quest glitch, and the game only crashed a couple of times due to heavy modding.
Motion capture isn't used because there are hundreds of sandbox NPCs, but their expressions and gestures look decent and remain highly modder-friendly.
The main reason some people might not like Starfield is the setting, and I get that. Some people were expecting a space fantasy like Star Wars, Mass Effect, or Star Trek. But no. Starfield is closer to Interstellar, Aliens, Starship Troopers, Event Horizon, or 2001: A Space Odyssey. There are no intelligent humanoid aliens here. And I like that—it makes the universe feel more serious, scientific, and mature.
The game doesn't feature massive, galaxy-spanning space wars or cinematic spectacles. It's a typical Bethesda game, all about cozy, local stories—but this time, set in space.
Starfield isn't perfect—no game is. Some quests could have been better and more in-depth; occasionally, you come across ones that feel lazy and half-made. The progression system could have been better, and I'd like to see more large, unique POIs. The game also had a rocky launch, needing more initial polish and quality-of-life improvements.
But the biggest issue for me is modding.
The problem is that Starfield really wants to be a “field” for mods. While there are already a lot of amazing mods out there, a massive technical issue has been discovered in the game: the “pointer handle limit.”
The thing is, this limit hasn’t changed since Fallout 4. The vanilla version of Starfield, even without any mods installed, already takes up more than half of that limit. Therefore, running large mod packs over a long playthrough can completely break your save file. The game will start crashing and corrupting quests or locations.
What's worse, Bethesda seems to be ignoring this (at least, I haven't seen an official response) while simultaneously selling official Creations/mods without warning players or mod authors that the game might eventually break.
This is a massive issue that threatens Starfield’s long-term future. If it isn’t resolved, the game will soon no longer be able to handle either new community mods or official DLCs.
Starfield is far from perfect, but it absolutely doesn’t deserve the overwhelming hate it receives. Right now, it’s Bethesda’s most impressive game with a great future ahead of it—but only if they fix the mod limit issue. For now, I’d give it a solid 7.5/10.

Therefore, running large mod packs over a long playthrough can completely break your save file. The game will start crashing and corrupting quests or locations.
What's worse, Bethesda seems to be ignoring this (at least, I haven't seen an official response) while simultaneously selling official Creations/mods without warning players or mod authors that the game might eventually break.
This is a massive issue that threatens Starfield’s long-term future. If it isn’t resolved, the game will soon no longer be able to handle either new community mods or official DLCs.
Conclusion
Starfield is far from perfect, but it absolutely doesn’t deserve the overwhelming hate it receives. Right now, it’s Bethesda’s most impressive game with a great future ahead of it—but only if they fix the mod limit issue. For now, I’d give it a solid 7.5/10.

The idea of the story is cool. But the whole game is very uneventful. I can not remember much about any of the quests. I dont even think i enjoyed this game after 20 hours in. The base building felt very forces, so did the planet exporation. After a while you see most planets are empty except for the same building over and over again. The weapons are all boring. And there is no good named weapons you could aim to get each play through. Just have to look at each and see if it is good. A lot of fetch quests with no deep meaning. I regret buying the premium edition since i have zero clue what i got. And the DLC is so boring i stopped playing within an hour 1.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

That something is never-ending copy paste outposts, enemy bases, and etc. Exploration (scanning) is incredibly dull and repetitive. The game lacks a certain sophistication. Once you play through a few of these cookie-cutter missions and encounters it is boring. Also the main story is illogical. The gaining temple power tasks of flying to the light is incredibly redundant and annoying. Why are you Mr Special and allowed "magic" powers anyway? The main story is clearly rushed or not taken seriously. The writers deserve a hard smack to recalibrate their neural pathways (a hardware reset) or be replaced. You are asked to overlook glaring flaws that can be taken as an affront, an insult, to the gamer's intelligence. This game lacks depth.
I could go on and on about disappointments. Starfield was overhyped at launch. Todd Howard comes off as a bit shady.
Yet I will recommend this game. The handmade faction quests are quite good. I enjoyed most of them. I do find myself coming back to this incomplete game from time to time. I say incomplete because it seems like it is a sandbox. Theoretically it could be filled in over time with better content. I am not so confident that it ever achieves what people want this game to be, but maybe it does improve.
Maybe Todd can hire better creative writers and employ AI bots to assist them in realizing a much more in depth game? We do not want 10000s of copy paste "empty" redundant SPAM planets and systems. Yeah its spam. Fck off Todd. Who cares? It would have been much better to have a couple hundred well thought out and executed planets, environments, characters, and missions.
The shipbuilder is great. Double down on this. It would be great if we could better control where to put interconnecting doors and ladders. The outpost system is a bit complicated initially, but I like it after taking some time with it. Maybe add more options?
Please refresh Neon entirely. Its cheesy. It is a thinly veneered fake-out of Cyberpunk. The nightclub has lame dancers and wack music. Todd, stop being a punk and put some spicy intergalactic dancers in there. Neon isnt trendy or cool. It sucks, yet the game dialogues make it out to be some sort of super cool and edgy place. Add a more depth and visual stimulation to Neon, and to the game as a whole.

Hundreds of planets to fly through space and explore? Amazing! Nasapunk themes? Fantastic! But somehow everything in the game feels just barely done halfway. If this game was made by an indie studio and was still in early access I would say that this had the potential to be a top ten of mine forever, but Bethesda seemed to be relying so hard on modders to finish their game that they just stopped working on it. It is an empty, boring, clunky, and ugly game... but I wish so badly that it wasn't.
It seems like the 10 years of development when into making every item in the universe have its own 3d model with physics, down to the literal trash, and maybe 2 seconds adding a new texture pack to Skyrim's character models. This would not be too bad if there was any kind of modding scene, but even modders can't seem to be bothered making something for this game past a few visual enhancements.
