If the game were maybe 2-5x speed id get it and appreciate the rush and the speed of the game. Except it is a slow and unforgiving grind and honestly the upgrades and stuff do not excite or interest me very much, it is a very manual combat system with slow controls and that never really changes, just number go up. There are different domes with different play styles, I tried the sword one and asked myself why anyone for any reason would subject themselves to MORE micromanagement. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI wanted to like this game. It has charm, cool gameplay loop, is very intuitive and it could be praised more, but it falls short on the progression.
It is a roguelike and not roguelite, and fine (but why do we have upgrades we can get??? and if so why aren't they like classic roguelite?) and yet it's immediaetlly clear the game does not want you to improve, rather, it wants you to get lucky.
Example: Early guild mission for permanent modifiers would have you get 200 iron in 30 minutes. Because you buy upgrades the real cost is closer to 250-300. I got Dome Keeper a long time ago, because I used to watch the youtuber Blitz all the time, and the game interested me.
I personally really liked this game. It was surprisingly relaxing, even with the intense moments of being attacked.
In Dome Keeper, you land on a planet, you go into a mine down below, and you mine some resources. After a little while, enemies will attack your dome, and then you gotta get back up and defend it.
Eventually, you get enough resources like iron and water, and you can upgrade things in your dome. Movement speed, drill strength, dome health, a timer for when the enemies spawn, all that jazz. And so its a nice gameplay loop of getting more resources, the enemies getting harder, and eventually you winning the game if you don't screw up.
You can choose the size of the map, which is basically just picking how long you want your game to be. I am a slow guy, so when I pick a "big" map, the entire round takes me an hour to complete. If I pick a "massive" map, I might take 2 hours. Maybe more even, my longest round was about 2 and a half hours.
I'll leave all the gadgets and different dome types and stuff for you to discover, but overall there is a lot of variety. This is a rougelite afterall, so all the rounds will always be different.
In the main menu you can pick a bunch of modifiers, with different.. modifications, and you change your goal with different challenge modes. There is also the prestige mode, which I didn't dabble much in but it seemed fun and seems challenging enough to be interesting.
You unlock new items to use every time you win a run. Theres a bunch of items, so you'll absolutely have some stuff to unlock, if you are into that stuff.
My personal favorite part of the game is a modifier where you lose the ability to control the gun of your dome, and are unable to attack enemies yourself, but in return you are given all of the automatic gadgets that attack enemies on their own. So you can stay in the mine despite enemies attacking you, and just have to hope and pray your dome survives without you.
Anyway, this is a very nice game. I don't personally play this as a return-to game, and that might just be because I 100%ed it, but I haven't tried any of the multiplayer, and there are more updates to come. Very good game, and if you know you like this kind of genre/type of game, then this is a good one to play too.
At the time of writing this, it is on sale. So might as well try it. Really enjoyed me time.

Not the game of the year, but if you want something comfy, fun and not complicated, this is the game. Also, take a DLS if you would like to do 100%, 2 new keepers are fun as hell and Beastmaker makes a lot of routine go away.
On the bad side:
