-500+ hours in and I have no idea what the plot is
-Having multiple pals working in the same location causes the SteamDeck to drop frames

I thought I was maybe a bit old for a pokemon clone, but this combines a classic rpg format (hunt and train monsters) with all sorts of fun things like slave labour, organ harvesting, and surprisingly - climbing.

At a certain point, around level 20-40, the gameplay feels tedious and uninteresting. The crafting and resource system doesn't seem very intuitive to me, and the pacing seems to grind to a snail's pace. The foundation for something interesting is there, but overall playing just doesn't feel very fun, and comes off more as a list of chores to unlock even more chores. I'm going to give Palworld another shot once the 1.0 update drops, and see if things improve, but as of right now I really can't recommend it.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tWhen I first played Legends: Arceus, I thought it was the best Pokemon game ever. It had most of the "this is what a perfect Pokemon game" features: big, open worlds, riding Pokemon, reasons to explore and discovering brand new things.
But then I played Palworld and realized: THIS is the best Pokemon game ever. Pokemon's biggest flaws (in my opinion) and how Palworld solves them:
* The majority of Pokemon are functionally useless. Whether it's stats, move pools, or typing, the majority of Pokemon aren't viable. Every Pal has some benefit, whether it's in your base or exploring in the world. And this has been further improved by...
* Your "favorite" Pokemon might actually be garbage. It sucks so much to finish a playthrough with Pokemon you've bonded with to then discover their IVs/EVs are terrible and will be of no use to use for endgame content. Over time, there have been SOME ways to "fix" your Pokemon, but it takes a lot of time and money. But you can now upgrade the "IVs" of any pal, increase their stats in multiple ways, and even change their "passives", gender, and work suitability. You can make any individual pal "good" and be by your side the entire game if you so choose.
* There's no sense of mystery or discovery left in Pokemon. All the big Pokemon are shown in the marketing, but you already know what the other 1,000+ are going to be and what biomes they'll live in. But I love wandering in Palworld's forests or climbing mountains to see if I can spot distant islands in the oceans. I might discover a new subtype of pal in a dungeon or in a cave, or even a random egg I found. I truly don't know what I'm going to find, and the world has become even more lived in as they've updated it over the past few years.
Everyone has different ideas of what their "ideal" critter catching/rearing game should be, so things like tech trees, base building, and no evolutions might be hard nos for some people, and that's okay. But Palworld has all of those for me, and even more, like the ability to make random spawn worlds or "nuzlocke" rules.
It's at the point that I look at new Pokemon games, its cities with three enterable buildings, evolution mechanics so obsure you HAVE to google them, and the same 30 Pokemon being used in endgame and wonder...why put up with that anymore? Why not instead play a game that lets me use whatever creatures I want, spend my time wherever I want, and always be excited to go out in the world?
The fact that I already own the game and don't need to buy a Switch 2 is a great bonus lol\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I get a corrupted messaged every time i try to. I have deleted the game, wiped the contents from my computer and redownloaded updates and patches to no luck. I submitted a ticket with no answer. I have played the game, loved it, left it for a while, came back, still love it. It is a game you can always come back to. The vast variety of creatures you can capture are amazing, all with very differing designs and features and functionalities, the higher up pals feel like a achievement with very wicked attacks and stats. You are always striving for more power and goals to beat, never do you feel too weak or too powerful.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
