Palworld was a game when at release, people tried to compare to pokemon when the games cannot be anymore different. Palworld offers its own unique experience combining multiple survival/craft elements with a creature capture system and blends it all together very well.
Pros:
Art style: The art style for palworld is really good and expected for a game like this. While its not "cutting edge" graphics, the world is still beautiful and it has its awe moments. Once you unlock flying, the games world really shines as you explore the landscapes below you. The map is huge for this too.
Crafting: There is a exceptional crafting system here. It is extremely detailed like most games like this and it does very well in keeping you engaged for many many hours.
Gameplay: The game shines here. The game is literally all gameplay. Little to no cutscenes, no voice acting, just pure raw gameplay. Between the crafting systems, the building systems, the creature capturing, over 200 pals at the time of this review, different rare pals. Different type / versions of the same pals, weapon system, bows, guns, melee. This game literally has it all its insane. The amount of builds you can try is ridiculous. Each pal has a passive bonus to the party or when its mounted. There are multiple items you can equip a pal with, like guns, saddles etc. There is so much here and its where the game really shines.
Boss Battles / Alpha Hunting: The game offers the ability to fight and capture alpha versions of the same pals you find in the wild. It makes a fun experience to try to get as many alphas as possible. There is also legendary pals you can try to hunt as well.
Dungeons: The game has pretty fun and a nice selection of diverse dungeons with items to farm inside and bosses to find. I do wish there was a little more to them as they just feel like extensions of the open world and nothing special really in their own right outside of materials you can only find in them. Still pretty fun.
Value: The game features an immense amount of value for a $30 retail video game. They kept the price the same at release of 1.0 and added so much content and fixes they couldnt even list the whole thing on steam.
Cons:
Story: The story is palworld is fairly weak. Atleast the way its presented is weak. The game is obviously focused on its gameplay over anything else, which isnt bad for its addictive nature and how fun it is overall, but i wish there was more effort put into the story telling.
Music: The game features barely any music. When the music does hit, its pretty nice. I just wish there was more. Especially when your in a dungeon. having it be super quiet just makes it feel like nothing special is happening. I dont know, I just feel like more music can be added here to really make the moments shine. Its lacking.
Glitches: The game is still filled with alot of glitches that pop up randomly. One of the most annoying ones was when an alpha pal i was trying to kill fell through the world and was still able to attack me but i couldnt do anything to them. After so much time in early access, this is unacceptable and needs to be worked on ASAP.
Overall Palworld is everything I thought it would be and more. I purposefully waited for 1.0 before playing it and I am glad i did. This game is amazing and considering I have 56 hours in just a few days, i can see myself spending hundreds of hours in this.

I catch myself at work, lying on the couch, or trying to fall asleep thinking, "I need to expand my base," "I should catch that Pal," or "Do I finally have enough resources for that project?" Palworld somehow lives rent-free in my head even when I'm not playing.
The progression is incredibly addictive, exploration constantly rewards your curiosity, and there are so many different ways to play that it never gets boring. It's fantastic solo, but with friends it's on a whole different level.

I wasn't even sure this game why my type of game, but the price point was more then fare and gave it a chance. I played co-op with buddy and were both old school gamers and we really got into it. This game seems to take the best of many base building, resource management and survival games out there and bring it all together in one game with great perfection. I can see myself being addicted to this game for some time. I should note I never played any of the Nintendo Pokemon games so I'm seeing this game through fresh eyes. Will update review when I get many more hours of play, but hats off to the Devs for a great game and being so reasonable wth price point.

"It's a Pokemon clone," I though to myself, "it simply has to be terrible." I was wrong, and I shall repent for my sins. This game is what Gamefreak SHOULD have been making. This is the game Pokemon SHOULD have become. In fact - Forget Pokemon. Forget Gamefreak and Nintendo. Forget all'a that crap. Palworld is the definitive creature catching game. The pal designs are (no matter what people say) often unique, creative and interesting. The world is fun to explore. The crafting is simple, yet deep. The survival aspects are light enough not to get in the way of the enjoyment. The building is just about as interesting as it needs to be. The combat is as good as you'd expect. This game doesn't fail to do any one thing it sets out to do. It's a Jack of All - master of not a lot, but a failure at none.

Absolutely not! It is one of the most fun games I've ever played! This game respects your time and you can customize the settings of pretty much everything. You can build your base(s), tame and breed Pals, explore a huge Open-World and gear up. Sometimes it feels like Ark, sometimes it feels like Pokémon and and sometimes you feel like playing one of the newer Zelda-games or Terraria. Speaking of Terraria, Pocket Pair even had a collab with this masterpiece, so you can get Terraria-Pals and items! The designs are insanely well made. There are Pals for everyone... Yes, even Furries... The gameplay is deep enough to enjoy this game for hundreds of hours and it will probably get even more content after the release of 1.0.
You can transfer your Pals to your other worlds, so you don't need to have the fear of losing your precious friends. Play solo, co-op or multiplayer. The choice is yours.

I'm sure it would be a game of all times if it spent a couple more years in the oven. Sadly, from what I've read, the developer doesn't plan on anything beyond fixing bugs and polishing the game, so I guess it's safe not to expect any massive reworks in the future.
My review is an honest compilation of my first impressions of the base game (no mods, Hard difficulty).
The further you go into the game, the sparser the areas become. Islets are barren wastelands with 2-3 kinds of pals roaming around, copy-pasted enemy bases, and absolutely nothing else to do. Areas become increasingly strict about what lvl pals spawn there, which makes the open world less meaningful and only adds frustration to the exploration aspect. You find a new area, and your reaction is either "nothing useful for my lvl here" or "I'm too fresh to be here".
Level-gating areas this way only prohibits players from combat. Nothing prevented me from going into a lvl 65-70 skyland area when I was only 34, gathering the most powerful spheres from the ground, and catching pals who could one-shot me if I looked at them wrong.
Pals can't compete with a Minecraft skeleton in accuracy and their pathfinding algorithm sometimes causes them to spin in one place and starve to death if left unattended at your base. Human enemies have the simplest tactic of "stand still and shoot". What's the point of having an oil rig filled with explosive barrels and gigantic turrets if the bandits simply ignore the player standing next to them? I'd expect this quality of AI in Goat Simulator, not in a game with intentionally added gun-wielding enemies.
Since this game has base building, I guess it just had to have raids as well, repeating after Fallout 4 mistakes. You get to build defences and put pals on watchtowers, but why bother? Raiders' level is consistently twice as low as the player's, which means any pal at the base can dispose of them by sneezing once.
There are no crafting schedules or "make until you have N" assignments — you have to return to your base and assign tasks manually, which is especially tedious for multi-step recipes. Every task takes time to complete, so you can't just have one long crafting session once in a while. To make matters worse, the food spoils over time, so you can't prepare it in bulk and have to constantly fuss about your ingredients' lifespan.
You get a maximum of 15 pals per base at default settings, and a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of structures that require many more, while even small things like fridges need their own dedicated pals.
By the time I dig enough ore to automate its mining, I already need to grind some other ore. By the time I process enough materials for some weapon, it becomes obsolete. I was running around with a lousy revolver when I was supposed to wield a plasma cannon, just because I was still grinding hundreds of metal ingots to be able to process hundreds of other metal ingots.
There's also weight limit for the inventory, which exists solely to frustrate the player. There are no pal caravans or saddle bags, you are simply forced to use fast travel a bit more often. Early in the game, if you didn't upgrade the carrying capacity enough, an extra egg you found can easily interrupt your exploration.
Like any modern game, Palworld had to have fishing (as a way to compensate for the lack of underwater gameplay, I assume). But unlike Terraria, fishing in this game is not optional, as it's the only reasonable way to acquire certain ore for the later stages. You mount a water-type pal, swim to a spot in the middle of the ocean, and hold F to get 10 pieces of ore. You can probably imagine how breathtaking it is to repeat this 30 times in a row.
There's a separate technology node for each pal's saddle, so if you got a pal a bit earlier than intended, you'll have to wait until your level catches up. On the other hand, there are schematics that allow to craft weapons or armour way before they can be unlocked. The tier system outright discourages the player from unlocking tech nodes and crafting items themselves. Why waste resources and tech points on gear if I'll inevitably find a blueprint for its superior version later?
The lore feels non-existent as a result, since the developers didn't care to make the player suspect there's something interesting about the Palpagos. Would it kill the developers to make a quest about helping a village to repel a bandit raid? To make an NPC lead you through some caves while telling about its history? To throw in some puzzles rather than just making chains of "collect a note over there" errands?
There are tons of items and enemies you can play with, but no reasons to. The only challenge the game presents is waiting for a level up. You can repel raids or pick fights, but your impact ultimately doesn't matter. You can invest resources in weapons, but the most practical choice would still be that one "legendary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stick" you found twenty levels ago.
The stakes aren't raising, the enemies don't provide greater challenges beyond having larger stats, and the player slowly but steadily enters godmode to stop caring about anything at all. It is the same level of fun as entertaining yourself in Garry's Mod by spawning NPCs and weapons to defeat them, and without changes throughout the gameplay it gets really old real quick.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

There is a difference between "an optional mechanic" and "unnecessary content bloat". I'd rather have a game with polished core gameplay than dilute it with every idea it can reach without much consideration about how well it synergizes with the rest of the gameplay. This results in the same eclectic feeling as seeing a screenshot of Skyrim with assault rifles, Ultrakill, and Terraria mods crammed into one frame, rather than a game built with a set goal in mind.The map

Summon your pal, stay out of the trouble, maybe provide some fire support if you want to. That's all there is to the combat. It requires no skill and simply comes down to measuring numbers and comparing levels. The tech tree reminds me of ARK: Survival Evolved. Each level unlocks a row of research nodes, fractured so much that almost every item has to be unlocked individually, even decorative furniture sets. Overall, the game has a solid 20 hours of enjoyable gameplay and it's worth the money. Beyond that, it's a sandbox that will probably earn its niche within the modding community of furry gooners, but not much more.There are tons of items and enemies you can play with, but no reasons to. I don't have much to say about this game yet besides the fact that its incredibly fun so far.
I find myself saying "It's so cute!" to every single Pal, especially the Kelpsea which is a close sibling to one of my all time favourite creatures from another very popular monster-taming game. (Lapras).
I immediately decided I wanted to rush to level 15 to get the fishing rod - which I've since unlocked.
So now I'll probably spend my time fishing for now ahaha.
There's tons of NPCs that give you quests, bounties, a tech tree - which allow you to unlock things like a 'grapling gun' (which is super fun to use btw), bosses, and many other things to do.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tTLDR. I liked this game as a concept rather than a finished product. I spent 40H on it, after which I was thinking: "what is really my goal here?". Note that, despite my critics, I HAVE played 40h. At some point I started rushing through because I wanted to "finish it", but I had my fair share of fun as well. I wouldn't recommend it for 30e, nor 20e. It feels like a well structured CONCEPT rather than a finished and polished game. Given the number of sales, I expected more from the v1.0 ( haven't played the game before that).

The environment feels cheap. You will encounter the same assets, placed differently, Texture is repeated over and over. I went to some sand biome, and I thought to myself "this looks like the concept 3d boxes you build to see if the level layout is well designed. Not a finished environment". You had flat texture on the ground, some randomly places trees taken from an asset store that are low poly and feels lifeless, and that was it. It felt like the game "Motocross Madness 2" with a bit more details on the ground. BUT other than that, I liked the map layout, Iles, rocky mountains and deserts. Too bad it felt like a concept 3d design rather than a finished product.
Speaking of environment and assets repeated over and over, donjons are a perfect example of this. They design 10 different rooms, that are patched together randomly at each donjon run. After entering your thenth' donjon, you know will have encounter all rooms already. And they are not that well patched together - like, you can SEE where a room asset ends and where an other start - to the point where If not for the small reward at the end (a Technology point and a stat increase), I would never go inside them. They are lifeless, uninteresting repetition of the same stuff over and over. Probably the worse thing in this game to be honest. There is no challenge like a real donjon would have, "parkour" rooms are a joke to be honest, and the boss room is always the same. It really feels like someone proposed concepts like "imagine here, there is this kind of parkour style room", executive agreed, and they never went beyond that point.
Movement. I don't know HOW many times I was climbing a wall for my character to miss the last meter or so. Not due to missing stamina (I maxed out this spec early on), but because the engine will wrongly assume you have finished climbing due to the end of the cliff being somewhat round. Since the border is round-ish, the engine assume it is now a flat enough surface, stop the climbing animation, and you just fell into misery. You will get blocked by small rocks that will trigger what I would call an hysteria spasm, where your character goes to climbing animation, immediately goes back to running animation, and repeat multiple time, at which point you will hit space repeatedly to try to leave this animation hell-pit.
Animation. In general, animation feels unpolished and rather grotesque. In my opinion, they didn't really got the speed of running animation quite right (its not quite my tempo as some would say). It feels like you are either faster or slower than how you move on the terrain, a bit like if your legs were going faster than how speedy you really are. Climbing animation is simple and effective, but adds to the unfinish feel I get on this game.
Story. If you are here for the story, don't. I tried to follow the discussions and get immersed in the story, but it really feels like a placeholder for you to go out and discover a new environment.
Base Build. The concept feels standard to other basebuilding like Rust, but again, unpolished. You don't have the ability to let the walls "Go through" the terrain, so you will have holes in your base that you cannot feel because "you cannot place this here due to a blocking object or terrain". Wood texture feels nice, but stone and steel are ugly (my opinion, some likes them). Like the rest, and because my review is long enough, I will conclude that it feels unfinished.

Survival mechanics combined with monster taming and brutal base building logistics makes for an unforgettable experience. The fact that some pals can use guns just like you really sets the tone of how savage the world can be.

Palworld's excellent mixture of cute monsters and high stakes and steaks has only improved vastly with 1.0. It's an excellent choice for co-op or single-player gaming. The global palbox lets you transfer Pals between saves and multiplayer games so you can show off your best catches or utilize your hardest workers across games. There is a serious amount of content to enjoy, including fishing, something that I do way to much of, and decorative base-building that let's you create something unique not only in shape, but layout. They could've just left it as pre-fabs, but no, they let you do something as horrible as some of the things I've done.

Palworld’s official 1.0 release delivers massive amounts of content, but its severe lack of visual cohesion and heavy reliance on store-bought assets prevent it from feeling like a truly finished product, which is the main reason I decided to buy the game thinking in a more polished experience.
The good:
Under the hood, Palworld remains an incredibly addictive and well-executed survival and monster-taming hybrid. The 100+ unique Pals, their charming animations, and the progression loop of base-building, resource farming, breeding and automated crafting are genuinely fun.
The bad:
Despite shedding its Early Access label, the game suffers from a severe identity crisis. It feels less like a hand-crafted world and more like a modded sandbox where unrelated asset packs were dumped together.
- The simple, stylized anime aesthetic of the Pals and characters clashes horribly with realistic environments. Your base quickly becomes a jarring warehouse mixing cute cartoon monsters with gritty post-apocalyptic crafting benches and industrial metal factories with some medieval/magical style things sprinkled around.
-The developers relied on non-uniform scaling. Smaller marketplace models have been stretched out to fill space for larger world assets leaving behind ugly, blurry, low-resolution textures that ruin environmental immersion.
-The dungeons are the absolute worst offenders. Built from modular kits snapped together like building bricks, they offer zero aesthetic flow. Instead of smart layout design, the developers used lazy blockades literally dropping a giant, generic rock model right in front of passages that lead to nowhere.
While fans will defend the game because the core gameplay loop works, calling this a "1.0 release" feels misleading. Palworld 1.0 still has the DNA of a mid/late stage beta. However, given that the game has been a monumental historic success with tens of millions of units sold, the studio has no financial excuse left. One can only hope that the developers reinvest these massive profits into a proper art direction team and completely custom asset designs to give this game the cohesive world it truly deserves.

I guess that's why they tell you you have to give games more time. I saw that 1.0 was coming out and for some reason I started watching some videos. I gave the game another chance and I'm really glad I did. I won't talk about the graphics and that kind of stuff. You've seen that with your own eyes. I will tell you that this game gets a huge thumbs up from me.
This has become one of those games for me where I just don't want to stop playing. There are so many things to do within the game. It's so much more than a simple building game. All the pals are different and the exploration is just a lot of fun. The base building is a lot of fun as well, as you try to figure out which pals do what and how that can help you throughout the game, not just in base building, but in fights, harvesting, collecting and other tasks. I've never been much for Pokemon, but I can definitely see why Pocketpair won the legal battle because this game is so much more than Pokemon in my opinion.
It has a gamplay loop, but not one that becomes boring at all. There always seems to be a purpose for everything you do. The game has enough instruction and a guide where it's easy to pickup but challenging to master, at least for this older gamer.

All the pals are different and the exploration is just a lot of fun. The base building is a lot of fun as well, as you try to figure out which pals do what and how that can help you throughout the game, not just in base building, but in fights, harvesting, collecting and other tasks. I've never been much for Pokemon, but I can definitely see why Pocketpair won the legal battle because this game is so much more than Pokemon in my opinion.
It has a gamplay loop, but not one that becomes boring at all. There always seems to be a purpose for everything you do. The game has enough instruction and a guide where it's easy to pickup but challenging to master, at least for this older gamer.

I also like supporting developers who are willing to challenge companies that are actively hurting the industry. Seeing Pocketpair stand up to Nintendo, who are known for being extremely litigious, has been great to watch. The amount of support Palworld has received from players also says a lot. If this wasn't a genuinely good game, it wouldn't have built the following that it has.
Is Palworld better than Pokémon? Personally, I think it is in a lot of ways. Nintendo has been sitting on one of the biggest gaming franchises for years, and Palworld shows what can happen when developers actually listen to what players want.
Starting with the visuals, I think they look great. I initially played on maximum settings before dropping everything down to low for better performance, and honestly the game still looked really good. The art style has that colourful, anime-inspired look with vibrant environments and some really fun Pal designs. Yes, a lot of them are clearly inspired by Pokémon, but that doesn't bother me because the gameplay around them is doing something genuinely different.
One thing I would like to see improved is the visual effects during combat. Some Pal abilities, especially larger area attacks, completely fill the screen when multiple Pals are fighting. Not only does it make it difficult to see what's happening, but it also hits performance quite hard. Having a setting to reduce or simplify combat effects would make a noticeable difference. The cutscenes throughout the game are also well done, and I especially enjoyed the boss introductions as they give those fights a bit more weight.
The sound design is also really solid. I didn't run into any issues here at all. The weapons sound good, the Pal abilities are satisfying, the environmental audio fits the world nicely, and hearing the shiny Pal sound out in the wild is always exciting. Overall, it's just a pleasant game to listen to.

If you're looking for a survival crafting game like ARK, Conan or Rust, you'll find plenty to enjoy here. If you're after a creature collector, it absolutely delivers. If you've been disappointed with recent Pokémon games and want something that scratches that itch, this does that too.
I played almost the entire game with a controller, and overall I think it's implemented well. There are a few small annoyances depending on which input you're using. For example, selecting nearby fast travel points on the map with a controller can be frustrating because the cursor likes snapping to other markers. On the other hand, navigating things like the Palbox feels much nicer on controller than keyboard and mouse. These are only small issues, but it would be nice if both control schemes had a bit more consistency. The biggest improvement I'd like to see is adjustable aim assist strength. Right now it's either on or off, and I found it far too aggressive.
Progression is very easy to understand if you've played other survival games. Difficulty can spike quite a bit, but thankfully the world settings are extremely customisable, so you can tailor the experience to suit how you want to play. Base building is enjoyable, although I would have liked a few more building pieces to work with. Crafting is satisfying, and finding the right Pals for each job gives you something meaningful to work towards, especially once you reach the end game and start optimising your bases.

The only time I saw any major performance drops was during the arena when multiple Pals were using large area-of-effect abilities at the same time, which ties back to the visual clutter I mentioned earlier. Outside of that, I only had a single random crash in over 130 hours, so overall I thought the game was very stable.
Capturing and building your collection of Pals is easily the highlight of the game. Hunting for shiny Pals or those with ideal passive skills is surprisingly addictive, and seeing all the different companion abilities keeps things fresh. Whether it's bears with guns, monkeys with guns, dragons firing missiles or Pals literally transforming into your weapons, there's a lot of variety and plenty of moments that made me smile.
Combat itself is enjoyable, although I think melee builds could use a bit more love as ranged combat feels considerably stronger. One change I'd also like to see is making your own Pals less intrusive during combat. I constantly had my Aegidron step directly in front of me while I was shooting, blocking my attacks instead of them hitting the enemy. Small improvements like that would make combat feel much smoother.
Overall, I can't praise this game enough. It's one of the few games that I would happily recommend even at full price because I genuinely think it offers fantastic value for what you get. On top of that, it's nice to support developers who clearly care about making a fun game, and Pocketpair have absolutely delivered.

I'd highly recommend leaving these until last, as you'll want your best gear and strongest Pals before tackling them.
I personally only had one achievement cause me problems: Voice of Resentment, which requires you to fully condense five Pals. Mine didn't unlock until somewhere around my eighth to tenth fully condensed Pal. It wasn't game-breaking, but it definitely had me worried for a while.
I also saw reports from other players that the Effigy achievements could bug if you spent your effigies before collecting them all. I didn't experience this myself because I collected them in batches and earned each achievement before spending them, but it's something worth being aware of just in case.
The biggest tip I can give is to make use of the custom world settings. Thankfully, achievements remain enabled even when using custom settings, so you can tweak things like experience gain, resource gathering, damage taken and much more. If you simply want the achievements, these settings can make the grind dramatically easier without disabling anything.
Overall, this is a very enjoyable and straightforward 100% completion. The arena grind is the only part that really overstays its welcome, but everything else is well paced and satisfying to work through.
