I logged the majority of my hours during the initial release. I've never played a game that felt as effortlessly open world as this one. Building your home(s), exploring new biomes, and even laying out your own railroad network consistently felt fresh and imaginative.
As I dive back in after a number of massive updates, Corekeeper has retained it's original appeal, yet added quality of life updates along with content that has inevitably sucked me back into the persistent grind towards perfection.
Corekeeper will absolutely end up as a top 5 gaming experience in my ever-expanding repertoire. I'm forever grateful to Pugstorm for the level of happiness they've provided, and I impatiently await the inevitable release of Kyora!

Except for the post base-game area, passage.
It very quickly eroded all my goodwill in this game. It breaks all of its previous rules and good design principles in favor of being frustrating and hard. Beating the boss in the area requires so much luck and stat investment, that the content that comes afterwards is a joke.
Delete passage from the game. Or redesign it entirely. It asks you to traverse through it in a circular fashion, and if you fail, you die. No second chances. Nothing. Can’t even dig around the arena to create openings. Just instant death. I am not joking. It is so far below the rest of the game. I’m only giving this game a positive review because the remaining 90% was great fun, but this is genuinely so heartbreaking.

It's like the devs saw something cool in a successful game and went "let's add that" without thinking about content quality or how it would fit in. Take the warlock class, for example: you get very few summons over the course of the game. But not only that, they decided to make some of the summons orbit the player, making them completely useless as the armor gives you literally zero defense and all their balancing is "bigger number = harder". This means you have less useful summons than there are bosses to fight, so you can easily be fighting a boss with the same summon you used 2 bosses ago. They also implemented all of the gear poorly in terms of actually getting it. All the gear is dropped by enemies with a very low drop chance, and progression isn't tied into the materials you mine and explore for. Additionally, the bosses are incredibly boring. Most of them only have a couple attacks that you can dodge relatively easily, so the boss is actually a wait for 5 minutes challenge. All in all it feels poorly thought out, repetitive, I'm just not a fan.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

fishing is nice and relaxing and has a very cool minigame you can enable in settings.
the classes are very cool but mage and summoner are still a bit shallow. if you do want to stick to one class this is a bit of a wiki game but if you arent picky with classes its very easily to find out what to do next while still being really rewarding to explore with how many unique structures and sub biomes there are
Boss fights are very nice. simple but still rewarding to fight. as of this review i have not gotten to the new biome added in the 1.2 update but im excited to see what it has to offer.
visually speaking core keeper is beautiful with the pixel art style and the stunning godrays and water physics. the textures feel detailed enough for you to get immersed but dont feel super noisy unlike alot of newer pixel style games.

I liked the transition from manual resource gathering to establishing basic automation for your base. The boss variety is also surprisingly high; there are so many bosses that it sometimes feels like a boss-fighting game. It's not a masterpiece, but if you enjoy base building, setting up automated systems, and fighting lots of bosses, it's definitely worth your time.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

There isn't a great wiki out there either, and with a game that's this big, you really need one, or a dedicated guide character, like in Terraria. Edit: This doesn't change my verdict, but I would also say dont be afraid to get familiar with mod tools. Some stuff only generates once per world, and sometimes it breaks. I'm missing an important legendary weapon piece because the spot it would normally generate in is broken :'3 so I either have to do without or learn how to edit my inventory lol. Still an awesome game though, just be aware that weirdness CAN happen due to the rng of the game's generation.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
