The monetization isn't horrible IMO, if the game was free. I feel like the game itself costing money AND all the expansions/characters costing the same price is pretty steep.

Tempo just posted their plans for Mobile which is a huge step in the right direction IMO. Further just proves my point that I recommend this game, very excited for the mobile release and the fact all characters will now be provided with the game is amazing.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

If you got that itch for deep deckbuilding with a unique system, this game will scratch it like no other. I think you get plenty of fun with the three base characters, I'm down 60 hours and I'm not even close to done with exploring builds with Vanessa. New characters are insanely expensive which doesn't even make me want to buy them even a little bit, even though some of them look like fun. I really think Tempo are shooting themselves in the foot with that kind of pricing policy, although I'm sure there's plenty of people that are ready to buy the shiny new guy as soon as it's released. Also I can't say I fully disagree with people that say paid characters are overpowered.
I think my biggest gripe is the insane opponents you get paired with, at least in ranked. Regardless of your game knowledge, you're kind of a slave to luck and especially the player builds you're going to face. Maybe you've got an objectively strong build that can mow PvE encounters, but you're out of luck against that one guy that freezes your entire board or has some tech that basically one shots you : you CANNOT counterplay at all this game. I would lie if I said I wasn't frustrated by this sometimes, but I'd also lie if I said that I didn't always crave more of this game after a loss...

They seem fun to play, don't get me wrong, but it's like staring down a cliff face as any default character. Makes ranked nigh unplayable (though I have seen a lot of Pygmalien, maybe it's just Vanessa that's fallen behind there).
I really think there's good potential here, but as of now the game feels incredibly pay to win. I feel like DLC characters' items just do what the original three heroes' items do, but better. Vanessa is burst, Pygmalien is utility, slow cooldown big weapons or healing/economy based weaponry, and Dooley is whatever the ♥♥♥♥ Dooley is.
Jules just feels like all of them at once. Freeze, burn, infinite healing. Or that stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rolling pin that gets FIFTY DAMAGE every time you haste. At bronze level.
For reference, I do like the concepts of each character. But it feels like they are far too rewarded for just existing, instead of the tradeoffs the original three characters face. Mak makes sense. A specialized hero that's bad with direct damage, but uses things like poison and regen and item iteractions, potion synergy, etc. Mak's items, on their own, largely have little impact. But the way they work with him is entirely different. There's a lifesteal potion that Vanessa would BEG to have, but on Mak, it's like... Eh, could be good. Depends.
I have not once felt this with Jules. I'm using her as an example because she is the one I rarely manage to beat unless I'm on an exceptional run. I've gotten her items before, I've read them. 90% of them are "If you use a food," and almost all of her items are foods. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of burst damage for no reason? Jules has that. Freeze, burn, insane amounts of regen and shield? Yeah give it until day 4 she'll have it. Meanwhile I'm sitting there with my sharkclaws, bolas and double-barrel looking up at her like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Willem Dafoe.

There's no point in fighting other players. Why? Because you're just going to see the same builds, repeated and repeated and repeated and repeated. Even in unranked, you're going to find the same exact items over and over, in the same exact places on the same exact days.
If every build gets a better shot at working then this game might have its replayability back. But as it is, (and likely, what you're going to read because no-one wants to read this much text), it's unbearable.
DLC characters are both overpriced and overpowered.
PVP, which is central to this game, is completely stale and crowded by the same exact archetypes.
The cosmetics are nice, but it takes so long to even be able to reach for the skin in the shop, and the shops need more variety.
There's no incentive to go for them. If you want chests, you're going to have to play over and over and over. I also think twenty of the crystals or whatever they are for each pass level is pitiful.
With all of the negativity out of the way, I do think the battle pass quests are actually a great idea. And the addition of quest items is actually quite nice; that is also a great concept.
Just please make the actual game balanced again.

I feel like DLC characters' items just do what the original three heroes' items do, but better. Vanessa is burst, Pygmalien is utility, slow cooldown big weapons or healing/economy based weaponry, and Dooley is whatever the ♥♥♥♥ Dooley is.
Jules just feels like all of them at once. Freeze, burn, infinite healing. Or that stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ rolling pin that gets FIFTY DAMAGE every time you haste. At bronze level.
For reference, I do like the concepts of each character. But it feels like they are far too rewarded for just existing, instead of the tradeoffs the original three characters face. Mak makes sense. A specialized hero that's bad with direct damage, but uses things like poison and regen and item iteractions, potion synergy, etc. Mak's items, on their own, largely have little impact. But the way they work with him is entirely different. There's a lifesteal potion that Vanessa would BEG to have, but on Mak, it's like... Eh, could be good. Depends.
I have not once felt this with Jules. I'm using her as an example because she is the one I rarely manage to beat unless I'm on an exceptional run. I've gotten her items before, I've read them. 90% of them are "If you use a food," and almost all of her items are foods. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of burst damage for no reason? Jules has that. Freeze, burn, insane amounts of regen and shield? Yeah give it until day 4 she'll have it. Meanwhile I'm sitting there with my sharkclaws, bolas and double-barrel looking up at her like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Willem Dafoe.

I know many people criticize this game for its means of monetary development; however, as someone who has every character and hundreds of ours on the game, I can confidently say you do not need every character. You will find yourself gravitating towards the same 3 characters that appeal to you the most. I will continue to purchase the DLC's only because I want to support this game. If you're wanting to get into it, no need to buy the DLC immediately. Both Pyg and Dooly will give you a good base line on whether or not you would be interested in any of the other characters. My personal ranking on the DLC are the following:
1. Jules - Large verity of builds, forces versatility based on burner/cooler placements, and most importantly cheese wheel.
2. Karnok - Rage build incorporated an interesting mechanic for all characters. He has funny no CD builds in addition to infinite charge builds that put up crazy numbers. I find the build verity to be phenomenal and every major patch I find Karnok to be fair or good.
3. Mak - Unique gimmick with transforming and enchanting your items. Truly gives a unique and random board every time I play him.
4. Stelle - Mostly placed lower because I do not play her. My only interactions with Stelle is getting destroyed in 2-4 seconds by 10,000 burn after day 8.
5. Dragons - Way overturned. If you want a ridicules character then play this one. There's no one status that it gravitates to, basically uses them all and enchants more and better than Mak. Has more multicast than any other character. Also I find it ruined the Skill pool when getting a skill from any other character. Over all nerfed other characters while being broken itself.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I have over 50 hours into this game and I can't say enough good things about it. I love the constantly changing meta. I love the champs, the vibe, the whole thing. My only gripe with the game is that new champs are $20.00. With that said that's the only real flaw of the game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Finally, a few bugs need fixing, and the characters should be balanced as much as possible so that no single one is overpowered.
