My time spent on this game is what I would say is probably reasonable to expect the amount of time you will have to put in to complete it on default settings. It was pretty fun overall, I don't regret purchasing the game, however, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone in good conscious.
This game feels really unique in offering an interesting 'power fantasy' style of a vampire game. The castle building is is good enough to have fun with, and I will say the boss design is addictive and fun. If you want to feel like a vampire, and like the sort of albion online, diablo style kind of combat, its great.
BUT, this is not a practical game for an adult with responsibilities to play in my opinion, at least on default settings. Everything takes too much time. You need more resources? You teleport there and then, you can't teleport back. You have to walk it all the way back to your base for the vast majority of the game. Yes this can be turned off in settings, but it's odd to me that the default is to have items prevent teleportation on by default.
The whole game is balanced around PVP. And if that's your thing, power to you. For me, I played solo PVE for the whole game (I did play on a server with other folks around, but I fought each boss independently). Once you get to late game, every resource takes quite a long time to craft. Armor takes literal minutes to craft. Combined with the walking back and forth to get resources, any time you are trying to improve your gear, or your castle ends up feeling like a perpetual fetch quest where you spend more time waiting than playing.
The in game solution for this are the servants. You can capture certain enemies and turn them into your servants to go to the resource camps and get them for you. Sound great right? Well, here's where this games obsession with waiting comes back: The minimum time you can send a servant out on a mission is 2 hours. The maximum length of these missions, is 16 hours. Luckily, these are real life hours so you don't have to be in game for the whole time.
But there's more of this real life time mechanic. If you play on a server ( the community that plays this game is really nice, so I would recommend playing on a PVE server), you have to keep filling up your castle's heart with essence or you could lose it. In the first couple tiers of play, completely filling up the heart with essence keeps it protected for 2ish days. I am very lucky that I was able to log on frequently enough early on that I never lost my castle, but it was something that was on my mind while I wasn't playing the game.
But this is where this gameplay loop started to break down for me. As an adult with a job and other real life responsibilities, I really only have an hour a couple times a week and maybe a few hours on a Saturday to indulge myself in a little bit of gaming. These mechanics created a sort of addiction stress loop for me, similar to a mobile game, where if I didn't log on that day, I'd loose something. If I didn't optimize the servants I was sending out, I feared that the next time I would log in, I'd have to spend my 1 hour walking to and from the iron mine just so I could get better gear.
Other than that though, this was quite a fun time. If you are a student on a summer break, I can envision this being a great time. The boss design is solid, and I enjoyed the mostly linear progression of the game where you always have someone to fight next. It just really is a bummer that all the mechanics, like bat form and the machine that allows you to do some basic crafting automation aren't available until the last 10-15 hours of gameplay. I ended up giving up on the servants at that point because I couldn't get them better gear without spending even more hours gathering resources to automate making them armor, to send them out to get me more resources. I ended up just having them collect fish until I beat Dracula.
In summary, only play this game if you can play really consistently for 80-100 hours, or mess with the settings to allow you to teleport with all items and increase basic resource drop rates.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Combat was fun, environments were cool, gameplay loop was fun, vampire customization is good, and the castle building is near perfect. The gameplay loop is incredibly addictive: explore Vardoran, hunt powerful enemies, absorb their blood to unlock new abilities, improve your gear, and build your own gothic castle. Every upgrade feels meaningful, and progression constantly gives you a new reason to venture further into the world.
The combat is where the game truly shines. Fast, responsive, and skill-based, it feels closer to an action RPG or even a competitive arena game than a traditional survival title. Boss fights are varied, satisfying, and require you to actually learn patterns, dodge attacks, and adapt your build.
The castle building is also a fantastic addition. Creating your own vampire fortress, decorating it, and slowly transforming a ruined hideout into a true dark kingdom is incredibly rewarding.
And while the game is already great solo, V Rising is definitely better in co-op. Playing with friends completely enhances the experience: you can share resources, build your castle together, specialize your characters, and take down powerful bosses as a vampire clan. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tV Rising is sort of a finished game. As in, there is sort of progression with sort of endgame with sort of gameplay loop. Up to Gear Level 85ish the game is very solid but then transforms into an utter slog of farming Rifts, rolling secondary bonuses on gems, rolling secondary attributes on legendary weapons. Rift farming feels genuinely soulless, like farming in MMO but without all the things making it fun. Luckily, there are means to modify droprates/vendor prices within in-game settings, but as a game creator, your line of defense should never be "there is a button to skip the part that isn't fun".
And mentioning soulless mechanics – servants. They provide no meaningful value to the experience. You catch them, give them gear, and then send them on literal mobile game expeditions. You can’t assign them any meaningful activity. They can’t patrol regions. You can’t take them as your combat companions. You can’t even encounter them in places where you send them to. Half of Vampire appeal is being able to mind control people and create thralls, yet the mechanic is basically non-existent outside of underbaked resource generator.
Speaking of dominating people, the other use is keeping prisoners in cages to extract blood from them. For as essential to endgame as “100% Bloods” are, getting them is pain in the back. You either encounter them naturally or play Corrupted Fish minigame where you throw anywhere from one to a few dozens of fish at your prison and see it roll random outcomes until eventually you get 100% Blood. Yet another needless grindy part. Once again, "you can just turn off the part that isn't fun" shouldn't be a line of defense for game designers.
The game itself is made with being PVP experience in mind. All the skills, cooldowns, and movement are balanced around players duking it out. Those of you who are familiar with isometric action games may get a heart attack hearing that the base cooldown of dash is 8 seconds. The game tries to compensate for terrible mobility by providing the player with abilities that block/reflect attacks. However, this introduces a design trap in which bosses are balanced around these abilities. If you don’t run Frost Barrier and/or Ward of the Damned, you are at significant disadvantage against most encounters. And in the game where you get 2 non-Ultimate spells total, sacrificing 1 or 2 of your slots for survivability just doesn’t feel exciting or fun. In some encounters, the game effectively taxes you and takes away your ability to play around with its other toys.
As far as encounters go - on brutal for the most part, they are fun, with Simon Belmont being the clear peak. However, after him it feels like the game goes downhill fast. The final gauntlet of 5 bosses is homogenic and features very similar dynamics of: avoid bullet hell, spend half the time waiting for your turn, groan when enemy does his mechanic blocking damage or teleports to the other end of arena. Out of these, Adam is probably the most engaging to fight, as his speed is actually matched with the player really well, and the flow of combat feels rather healthy. Either way, after some time, the final bosses don’t even make you angry, they make you numb. They are very flashy, but the more you break them down, the more boring and tiring they become. I don't remember the last time the game made me feel genuine nothing after beating a boss.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t7/23/2026 After 225 hours, V Rising was quickly becoming my favorite game in private world mode. I had end-game gear including legendary weapons rolled in shop by grinding shards slotted with max stats from rolled/salvaged weapons.
I keep 4 recommended legendary weapons on my bar for the fight with Dracula: slashers, greatsword, pistols, and reaper. I looked up and the slashers are gone. All I did was recycle the useless junk books brought from servants. WHAT DO YOU MEAN when you "sell trash to vendor" that if it's full because you are getting rid of 9+ items that it will start selling EQUIPPED WEAPONS AND ARMOR?
Literally every other game has a separation between ITEMS EQUIPPED ON CHARACTER and what is IN YOUR BAG. When trash/vendor window is open, right click goes to vendor trash, not swap junk with your legendary item and then put your legendary item into the trash that permanently disappears in 3 SECONDS without a tab that allows you to "buy it back".
You can easily craft/re-obtain your armor, but each weapon can take 20 or more hours of grinding shards and gambling at a vendor. Just for it to be deleted again due to poor design.
And why, when you die, and you pick up your bag, do you have to rearrange potions on your bar again? Come on...this is not even a skill issue. Just poor design.
All you have to do is have a toggleable setting for a freakin' confirmation pop-up when you recycle a legendary weapon. Or allow players to lock their gear/weapons/action bar...\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The solo exp is also fun good boss battles, base optimization, farming, and exploration. For me though the pvp alone is the attraction. Not only does it feature pvp but its in world not another que or lobby the same server you grind for resources etc. just like Rust the game also features a raid mechanic that is so well thought out perfect for anyone that itches for blood and glory. The farming can get a little tedious but highly rewarding and with servers that limit groups it can be balanced for the race of higher tech on wipe day. 100/10 always will be installed.

Its also not copy paste slop like every other combat games, where you see the same monster/boss every time, they actually took time to provide us different mobs/bosses and variety of system and mechanics you can do in the game.
The only downside i think is there's no story line inside the game but theres a lore for sure. I love this game so much, I just wish they released more cosmetics/skins dlcs, this has so much potential for it. 1. The blueprint system is functionally identical to Rust. It takes hours of real world to time get materials as environmental hazards that do multiple times the amount of damage to you and more heavily geared players target you for those materials. It then takes hours of real world time to craft the blueprints to get higher level equipment. There is also a massive debuff inflicted upon you where you do a small fraction of the damage you should be doing to anything that is a higher level than you, which is obnoxious and makes it effectively impossible to skip the grind using skill.
2. Walking anywhere is incredibly annoying because of how slowly you move, at least at the start. Walk for 15 minutes to go kill a boss that unlocks a skill, die to a random enemy on the way that can kill you in 1/40th the amount of hits that it takes you to kill it despite the boss being half it's level, then have to walk all the way back. The boss was literally easier than a random enemy that spawned next to it from my 2 hours of gameplay. This is poor game design.
3. Real world time based systems ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SUCKS ON PC. I do not have 40+ hours per week to play this game and I am not going to make the time. I dont want to check the game every 4 hours every day for weeks just to be able to progress. The UI in the settings for a lot of these options was apparently removed in a previous update, which is a critically poor decision for game design. The UI also only allows you to set most fields to 6x speed, which still means youre waiting for 15 minutes to craft stuff a lot of the time.
There is a .json file that can be modified, which I did, to set everything to higher speeds, but even that is missing many of the fields like research speed. I have little faith in any game devs that decide to remove options from the server side settings like this for no apparent reason as it disables players from deciding how they want to play the game.
