- Not a wiki game, I've never gone outside the game to solve anything.
- There is quite a lot of intrigue building as you progress, you think it's about one or two people at first and it stretches out from there.
- A progression of puzzles as the game unfolds exactly like regular game player progression.
- One of a kind.
- No saving in the middle of a run.
- The roguelike element is it's beating heart but it's the thing I dislike the most. It's utterly frustrating to know what you need to do to progress or complete a puzzle but you need the stars to align in order to complete it. I'm near the end of my tolerance.
- I'm getting the feeling that when you're done with the game, you will never revisit it. This game is all discovery and puzzles.

How the puzzle was truly satisfying and once you figured everything out you'd be amazed and feel a sense of accomplishment. There are hundreds of reviews for this game that all say the same thing. I really really believed them. I really wanted more than anything to like this game.
It's not true though. Every single puzzle in this game will be solved the first moment you lay eyes on it. You'll look and see that theres an easy basic puzzle that merely demands that you get a specific item, with a specific room. Or two or three specific rooms in one day, or god forbid lay out three rooms in a row. You'll know the answer for hours, and you'll just go through run after run where you dont get the items, dont get the rooms, don't get them in the right order. You'll spend run after run hyper focusing on this one riddle that you really believe is going to be a milestone, and when you finally find it- it'll be hint 1 to a puzzle you solved 10 runs ago when a room gave you the final hint first.
You'll do this with nearly every puzzle. This game is designed to do one thing only, waste your time. from the snails pace of walking to the complete lack of any interactivity in 90% of the maps on the game. From the fact that there are like 20 separate 4 code combination lock codes in this game and none of the hints will ever EVER tell you which is which, so even once you have all the combos you'll be trying them on different safes till you're blue in the face.

In a twist of cruel irony, the RNG gimmick that makes it more than just another exploration puzzle game is also the gimmick that prevents it from being fun to play. Strip the gimmick away or speed it all up to improve it and it is still just an utterly mediocre, dull puzzle game. I don't understand how this got so overrated in the first place.
I will give credit to world building and atmosphere, though even there the game falters in many aspects with immersion-breaking anachronisms and oddities. I suppose it might all be explained in-universe if you can be bothered to torture yourself until RNG solves the puzzle for you but i tapped out after only 5h.

I barely have SMALL uninterrupted chunks of time for this purpose. YOU HAVE TO LET ME SAVE AND COME BACK TO A RUN, or I cannot play your game.
Being forced to abandon a run if I want to turn my computer off and, like, pay attention to my dog and eat dinner and get ready for bed before I start using my computer again (if I start again at all!) is a HARD no for me. So often I have 15 to 30 minutes at a time for stuff like games; so what if someone Else might savescum? So what if *I* want to savescum? Who CARES? And even if you do care, why does "let me quit in the middle of a run and come back to that same run later" have to be 1:1 equivalent to "allows easy savescumming"??? This was a SOLVED PROBLEM back when Harvest Moon: More Friends of Mineral Town for the GameBoy Advance was brand-new. MANY GAMES SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, often by including a type of save which forces a quit to the menu when you do it, and which is removed from play once it's loaded. Was this, like... considered? Could you consider it again? Please? Genuinely please?? I would love that???

I think I would get a lot of enjoyment out of it, but I absolutely 100% cannot play it because "person who enjoys games like this but does NOT have time to commit to an entire run of indeterminate length at any given time they'd otherwise like to sit down and play" was somehow not a type of person that's on this developer's radar at all...? I say "was" because I assume if they're paying attention they've seen critique like this before & might even be tired of hearing it (??? or are working on a patch? She asked, hopefully??)

Many of the puzzles are dependent on getting multiple RNG rolls in your favor which incentives long days to try and get as many chances as possible for the right combination of items to drop. My longest run was four irl hours long. My runs routinely get to be 2+ hours long.
The kicker is that there is no way to save the state of the game in the middle of the run. It is an unjustifiable expectation that players have multiple hour increments to play this game when other rogue-light games have successfully implemented mid-run saves.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Après 100h d'enquêtes et d'énigmes passionnantes et obsédantes... Le jeu s'embourbe 100h de plus dans un tunnel infernal d'énigmes de plus en plus mal conçues, pour ceux qui ne souhaitent pas céder à l'appel de la triche.
Et tout ça pour quoi ? Pour découvrir que le jeu n'est tout simplement pas terminé.
L'auteur ne semblait pas savoir comment conclure son jeu, et l'a tout simplement laissé tel quel... En espérant que les joueurs crient à l'audace et au génie ?
En réalité, la plupart des critiques positives du jeu sont écrites par des personnes encore en début de partie... Ou admettant jouer avec une soluce, pas top pour un jeu d'énigmes...
En début/milieu de jeu, on profite des points positifs de l'expérience :
👍 : La nécessité de prendre soi-même ses notes, j'ai adoré jouer à l'enquêteur et organiser mes notes au fil du jeu, parfois pendant des heures, loin du PC
👍 : La découverte des différentes salles, et le lore qu'elles distillent
👍 : Une histoire passionnante à détricoter au fil de nos découvertes
👍 : Des mécaniques de rogue-like innovantes et addictives
👍 : La variétés d'énigmes que propose le jeu, leurs différents niveaux de lecture et cette habilité à les cacher en plein jour, jusqu'à la grisante réalisation, à la manière d'un The Witness
👍 : Ce génie total de la récompense par la déception, je que n'avais jamais vu ailleurs
Malheureusement, à l'approche de l'end-game, le jeu se prend les pieds dans un ventre mou interminable où les défauts du jeu ressortent et deviennent de plus en plus exaspérants, voire impardonnable :
️😟 : De loin le plus grand problème : les énigmes deviennent de plus en plus mal conçues. Elles souffrent d'un mélange d'indices trop flous, d'un nombre hallucinant de fausses pistes (!!) et de mécanismes de jeu très mal conçus et très mal expliqués.
Résultat : à chaque énigme, on dresse une longue liste de pistes (dont certaines parfois meilleures que celles retenues par le jeu), chacune d'entre elles demandant des heures pour être testées... Quelle frustration, quand après plusieurs heures de jeu, une piste ne provoque tout simplement aucune réaction du jeu !!
Et du coup, on finit par demander des indices à des amis ou internet, pour découvrir des solutions tout simplement farfelues par rapport aux indices données (principalement à cause des fausses pistes, qu'on ne peut jamais identifier à l'avance). Un vrai échec pour un jeu d'énigmes !
Je comprends que l'auteur voulait absolument éviter que le joueur découvre des éléments end-game par hasard, mais il y avait souvent mieux à faire.
😟 : En fait ce jeu d'énigme solo devient un ARG sans prévenir le joueur (qui devrait subitement décider de "collaborer" avec d'autres joueurs, et donc tricher). C'est un énorme problème de game-design, étant donné que l'expérience est clairement présentée comme solo, le jeu commence même par conseiller de prendre des notes. Quel intérêt de designer des énigmes dont le design incite à chercher des indices en dehors du jeu ? Vous allez vous sentir sale.
😟 : Le jeu respecte très peu le temps du joueur, avec un "grinding" déraisonnable. Pour terminer une enquête, on doit régulièrement refaire la même énigmes plein de fois, sous des formes qui varient très peu. L'interêt est très limité, c'est très chronophage, et ça incite encore une fois à aller sur internet, un vrai problème.
️😟 : Un bon niveau d'anglais est nécessaire, une bonne partie des énigmes est basée sur la langue (elle sont parfois même difficiles pour les anglophones natifs, la faute à quelques interprétations vraiment tirées par les cheveux). Il est possible de s'aider d'IA pour lisser cet aspect (à condition de cadrer les spoils)
️😟 : Les mécanismes d'aléatoire se mettent trop en travers du jeu, ce n'est pas rare de voir une run d'une heure ruinée à cause d'un manque de chance, même en ayant optimisé sa run
️😟 : Pas de possibilité de sauvegarder en cours de run : un vrai problème étant donné que certaines run peuvent durer plus de 2h (les joueurs steam deck sont donc avantagés, avec le quick resume)
😟 : Et finalement, l'impardonnable absolu : le jeu n'est tout simplement pas terminé.
Sans spoiler, le contenu s'arrête subitement à la fin de deux embranchements d'enquêtes parallèle, sans aucune indication claire au joueur (cut scene, crédits de fin). Pire : des indices sont donnés à la fin de ces embranchements, ce qui indique clairement que l'enquête continue. Vous galérez à chercher la suite, après des heures de tentative infructueuse à dérouler votre liste de pistes, vous finissez par vous resigner à aller sur internet (vous vous sentez sale) et vous découvrez que vous avez atteint la fin du jeu. Ou plutôt la fin du contenu. Aucun DLC prévu.
… Ça n'a aucun sens, cette manière de faire est catastrophique envers le joueur, qui a passé ~200h à arpenter le jeu. L'auteur essai de s'en sortir avec la carte cheap et honteuse du "il faut accepter que des mystères ne soient pas résolus", sauf que ce message entre en contradiction total avec le message véhiculé par le jeu, qui nous apprend justement à savoir aller plus loin qu'une récompense décevante.
Que dire de tous les aspects scénaristiques laissés sans fin, et les incohérences scénaristique qui s'accumulent dans notre esprit, faute d'explications.
Incompréhensible. Il n'y a rien qui va dans cette "fin", pour un fan qui a apprécié le jeu et son univers.
