i've re-written this review about half a dozen times by now, over the course of a whole month (I'm slow, forgive me). Each time, the word count has gone up. I kept reaching further and further for concrete, practical, *tangible* demonstrations and explanations for my near 15-hour experience with the game. Each time, I failed.
It shouldn't have been this hard - the game is distinctly well-designed in everything from its inventory system to its composition. Early on during my group's sessions, I called it a "game design game" in the way that everything feels laser-focused on being Just Right, from how it blends simplicity with open-ended problems ranging from the actual puzzles themselves to the act of navigation itself, creating beautifully emergent gameplay (check that off your bingo board...) and making downtime a core part of the experience itself. The game almost effortlessly commands your attention without you even realizing it; it explicitly wants you to stop and take a look around, to spend as much time as you need. Time to explore. Time to figure out what's next. Time to goof around with your friends. Time to take it all in. Time to stop and think. Time to wave goodbye.

Walking to the next puzzle while cracking jokes or just singing stupid songs, sitting in the train waiting for the next stop while your friend is wrestling with their map trying to figure out where to go next, taking the lift and letting your little bird guy go afk so it has an animation of them resting their head on their friends shoulder ADORABLE!, and just sitting on the edge of cliffs or colourful towers to watch the sun rise since you forgot to bring flashlights once again.. It's the little things about this game that just make it such an amazing experience.
The puzzles itself are incredible aswell! We (almost) never had any problems with the puzzles even if they were a little challenging at first. Even if we had to come back to them later, we got them done!

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tBig Walk is a great co-op game to play with your friends: you'll have to collect red beans while solving multiple puzzles to unlock new areas. The game can be overwhelming at first, when you realize how big the world is, but the exploration is such a great part of the game— I literally felt like I was going on a hike with my friends, but from home! So once we reached the end of the game, I felt empty, and it made me emotional.
The puzzles are original and fun. There's this excitement when you discover a new puzzle, then you try to understand the logic behind it and solve it with your friends. I wish I could erase my memory so I could experience some of the puzzles for the first time again, as some of them were reeeaaally fun!
Maybe the last few puzzles, once you reach the end, are quite redundant, as they require a lot of back-and-forth walking rather than actual teamwork and puzzle-solving. Also, it would've been great if we could reach our own belts ourselves rather than having to ask a friend to pick up an item for us.

Идея проста до боли - вы ходите по острову и решаете загадки. Сами загадки не сказать что сложные, но зато реализованы крайне креативно. Так что если хотите увидеть задумку авторов во всей красе, то рекомендую играть хотя бы с тремя друзьями. Загадки разбросаны по всему острову, так что вы успеете понять чем эта игра так цепляет - остров невероятно живописный и иногда не хочется идти никуда вовсе - просто присесть и наслаждаться моментом. За решение загадок вы "оживляете" остров - оживают поезда и фуникулер. И игра становится еще краше - тяжело описать те эмоции что ты исптываешь едя на неспешном поезде вдоль берега на рассвете

Some may say that this is a less than $20 "friendslop" game but I have never had this kind of experience with any of my friends until now. Interacting with each individual member strengthened the bond between us and I love how I'll have memories to cherish forever. Please, if you enjoy your friends as much as I thought I did, this game will let you look at them in a whole new light.

Solving puzzles on this gorgeous island using nothing but communication and hand gestures, kicking an item away for the millionth time instead of actually activating it, wandering around in the dark while following a laser pointer, vibing to the radio, and watching the sun set together.
There were so many beautiful little moments shared with friends, and somehow saying goodbye to everyone at the end hit way harder than I expected.

Big Walk already has enough buzz and praise that I don't really even need to tell you that it's fantastic. It was already eye catching on reveal three years ago, announced near the advent of the term "friendslop", delayed to 2026 during the proliferation and usage of such classification, now having arrived as some sort of bright colored knife to cut through the fog. Furthermore, so much of its charm is easily visible on first glance that it requires little words to describe what it's about and even fewer words to describe how good it is.

However, as simply does Big Walk present itself, its in equal brilliance that it's magic almost only works through that simplicity. Before solving puzzles, Big Walk is about communication. The puzzles are simply the obstacles in which communication is directly stretched and strained. I say this as while I found no one puzzle particularly hard, it's a difficulty that is scaled based on your own ability to communicate with the people you are playing with. Your ability to transcribe, use tools, your ability to understand and interpret. I’d say less than half of Big Walk is puzzles, the majority of the time you're either walking and talking on a stroll to the next objective, trying to get a hold of someone to find out, or simply hanging out!
Big Walk asks,
"How do you personally interpret this symbol, this drawing?"
"How would you describe it to someone who can't see it?"
"Without words, how would you do it?"
And what I mean by simplicity rears its head here. As Big Walk prods your brain about how you perceive and express, the other people people around you pick up on that, they in a sense understand you better. Picking up on ticks, movements, tendencies of the people around you, attributing it to them, all of which is amplified by the limited tools of communication provided. Becoming in sync in such a way does Big Walk not only bring you together for a shared activity, but also bring you together in a sense of understanding.
And it's all in this giant freeform sandbox of what I assume is a loving and endearing ecological recreation of the developer's home country of Australia, sonically backed by an incredibly tender and human soundtrack.
Big Walk doesn't require so many words to illustrate it's brilliance, but there's such a deep understanding and brilliant exercise in, as cheesy as it might sound, what makes us human. We like to walk, we like to talk, we like to work together.

I’d say less than half of Big Walk is puzzles, the majority of the time you're either walking and talking on a stroll to the next objective, trying to get a hold of someone to find out, or simply hanging out!
Big Walk asks,
"How do you personally interpret this symbol, this drawing?"
"How would you describe it to someone who can't see it?"
"Without words, how would you do it?"
And what I mean by simplicity rears its head here. As Big Walk prods your brain about how you perceive and express, the other people people around you pick up on that, they in a sense understand you better. Picking up on ticks, movements, tendencies of the people around you, attributing it to them, all of which is amplified by the limited tools of communication provided. Becoming in sync in such a way does Big Walk not only bring you together for a shared activity, but also bring you together in a sense of understanding.
And it's all in this giant freeform sandbox of what I assume is a loving and endearing ecological recreation of the developer's home country of Australia, sonically backed by an incredibly tender and human soundtrack.
Big Walk doesn't require so many words to illustrate it's brilliance, but there's such a deep understanding and brilliant exercise in, as cheesy as it might sound, what makes us human. We like to walk, we like to talk, we like to work together.
Big Walk is as human as walking. Big Walk is as human as doing a funny little dance. Big Walk is as human as getting lost. Big Walk is as human as getting found. Big Walk is art like Pacman is art. Big Walk isn't about asking the smartest person in the room to solve a puzzle, it's about getting a group of people to work together to achieve a common goal. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tGenuinely magical experience in a lot of regards in how it's another big group co-op type game but with a lot of aspects that have a level of handcrafted, curated finesse usually reserved for games that at most are only 1 or 2 players. I feel like we're in a bit of an era of games where a lot of developers have understood that playing most games with friends ends up as a wonderful time, and use this concept to allow for games that in some regard, feel extremely fundamentally flawed due to the co-op experience often offsetting the emotional response to such issues. This isn't to say that the experience gleaned from such titles is necessarily a bad or even lesser one, those feelings are still real, but it's nice to see a game that truly asks you to engross yourself in it while also going out of its way to intentionally curate an experience that relies on the foundational assumption of "you're playing this with friends"
Big Walk is an incredible time for many reasons, but it most thoroughly shines through in the sheer lengths it goes to to make everything feel like this wonderful adventure with your friends, each design decision revolving around this, whether it's the puzzles, tools or even methods of navigation and general map design. Rather than a game focusing on crafting a lot of individual big moments to laugh about and revel in with friends, the more holistic approach of this game leads to it feeling like a real digital shared space, especially when factoring in the different ways you're asked to slow down. Methods of transportation are all very slow and feel quite distinctive from one another in spirit, but this all is in service of this continued striving to make each other connect and also to make you really soak in all the finest details of the world you've been dropped into. Whether it's walking while having to traverse uneven terrain and stop once night falls, the slow, isolated and scenic gondola, or the feeling of waiting with your friends at the nearest train station, the vast majority of the best moments of Big Walk take place in the empty spaces between when you're 'doing things', which becomes an increasingly profound feeling when even most of the tools can be used in silly ways to further pass the time with each other. Probably also helps that you all get to look like the silly drinking bird gadgets while doing all of this, just an inherently pleasing thing to look at.
Walking across a big patch of Australian bushland in game form was also a nice time in itself, so many times where it felt like I myself had once wandered through extraordinarily similar areas in my own life ultimately led to a comforting sense of familiarity in my journey. It also made the stark contrast to the brightly coloured playground-esque structures where the puzzles would always be placed feel all the more striking, having these elements of plasticky artifice standing out in areas that otherwise felt so real. The puzzles themselves are also a lovely bit of fun, usually making use of some form of reduced capability of communication as the crux of the problem, leading to increasingly ingenious methods to express core concepts with what limited tools you're given. Some of my favourite iterative design in this regard is whenever you're given what is functionally an identical puzzle to earlier but with restrictions not to how the puzzle must be solved, but in your forms of conveying information, eventually culminating in everyone being able to understand each other through nothing more than a series of stupid looking arm movements. Turns out all you really needed to do to make one of the best multiplayer games out there was make a simplified The Witness and let you explore that world with friends <3.

I played this game with a close friend of mine and the amount of fun we had playing it is something I’ll never forget. We made so many memories throughout our time playing Big Walk. We argued a lot about whose solution was better, and the feeling of excitement every time we unlocked something new was amazing. I still remember how excited we were when we unlocked the train, and then we realized how slow it was lol.
We ended up finishing the game completely. The ending was perfect. Sharing our memories, stepping through the final door and then seeing my friend fade away gave me this feeling of nostalgia and sadness because I realized I would never experience this masterpiece for the first time again.

Unlike most recent coop games, this one actually takes over 10 hours to complete and is very well crafted with puzzles that are consistent, fun and polished.

What a phenomenal game. I never even notice sound design and the sound design was AMAZING, like down to every echo and handheld radio and the challenges in general. Speaking of the challenges, these were some of the funnest and most interesting puzzles I've ever played. Its almost like one of those work retreats where they make you get along with your co-workers, except this time this is voluntary. Probably one of the best co-op games I've ever played. The contrast between the characters and the environment is so interesting, and the world is absolutely gorgeous to look at. I also love how expressive you can be even for characters that look this simple, and the little things they added to to the game like how your little legs swing up and down when you sit down, and your pupils turning into squares when you're in the menu.
Cons: you'll need people to play with consistently if you want to finish the game, which might be difficult for some people. You need a sense of direction, which would make it IMPOSSIBLE for me to play without help (lmao). There are also issues (still) with trying to rejoin after crashing.
In conclusion, the game made me feel closer to my friends, and everytime we finished a puzzle, there was this sort of comradery and accomplishment that I don't think I've ever felt in any other game. What an amazing experience.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tHello! After heavy consideration between this and another game I played this year, I've decided my Game of the Year belongs to this game. This game is something so special that I'm writing a review for it, which is something I normally don't do nowadays. This is a one-of-a-kind game that I am incredibly glad to have experienced all the way through to the end with my friends, and a game that anyone with a friend group, big or small, should play.
I've wanted to play this game since I saw one of the announcement trailers, but I'm not a very talkative person and don't have a microphone, so I wasn't sure if I would be able to fully enjoy the game with my friends. Thankfully, there is a very well implemented proximity text chat system, which every multiplayer game with proximity voice chat should have.
While walking around with my friends and looking for puzzles there was a sense of exploration and discovery that I haven't felt as strongly in other games compared, and sharing it with them made each and every moment feel special. We came across some puzzles that had us stumped for a bit, or took a lot of effort to complete, and that shared feeling of finally figuring them out, going "OOHHHH", working together to complete them, and sense of accomplishment after felt amazing. We're so smart.
There were many moments in the game where we lost each other or got lost together, which felt less like a hinderance in the pacing of the game and more like an integral part of what makes the game special. There are many ways you can find your friends or help them find you, and many different ways of communication so you're not lost and alone the entire time. The few moments where I was lost and alone felt like I was taking a brisk walk through nature, taking in the sights, rather than actually feeling lost.
In the final portion of the game we had our vocal cords removed and had to rely solely on body language, which we all did amazingly with. We were like books with how easily we were able to read each other, and the puzzles were incredibly well done and well thought out.
That's another thing I love about this game, all of the puzzles are so unique in their own ways, some with many different ways you can solve them, intentional or unintentional, and are incredibly thought out and fun to solve. Each puzzle solved feels like an accomplishment and not just "oh we did it".
We also went for the post-game stuff, and did everything there was to do, saving probably the most fitting puzzle for last. After a long 21-ish hours we had finally reached the true end of the game and shared a moment in the void together before closing the game for the final(?) time.
This is one of those games that can only be experienced once, and the worst part of the experience is that it ends. If you can, and your friends are up for it, please play this game with them. I'm sure you'll all enjoy it. After all,
