I originally played the demo for Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon and was completely blown away by its dark fantasy atmosphere, beautiful world design, and overall vision. It convinced me to buy the full game immediately.
Visually and atmospherically, the game is a 10/10. However, the technical execution unfortunately lets it down. Even after taking a long break and returning to the game following multiple patches, I still encounter frequent and frustrating bugs. These include clipping through the map while riding a mount, getting stuck in terrain with no way out other than restarting the game, and enemy AI randomly losing track of combat.
While I respect the developers' dedication to issuing updates and providing in-game bug reporting tools, the sheer amount of technical issues makes it hard to recommend in its current state. I truly hope the developers can fully stabilize the game, as the core concept and art direction deserve to shine.

It's more like one of those "hardcore" combat mods for Oblivion or Skyrim (like Deadly Reflex) grew into a full game, and it feels just as janky as those mods. I'm recommending this game for the great environments, strange and interesting lore and some strong characters, but this is NOT an Elder Scrolls game in terms of size or freedom of exploration, and the combat still sucks imo, just in a different way. Really, this game convinced me that improving the action combat in the Elder Scrolls is a waste of time that should just be spent on more content.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This is the go anywhere, do anything Elder Scrolls formula distilled into a straight up good time. Imagine playing Morrowind or Skyrim again for the first time. IMAGINE SUMMONING MULTIPLE CREATURES AT ONE TIME. Now imagine it with sick ass mechanics that make the combat engaging. Imagine having attributes again that matter and skill trees that actually do stuff and synergize.

This game is insane, never seen something like it, right here you can 1 shot an enemy go 50 meters in some direction and they're fkin GODS. No way to know their power, every encounter is you either die instantly or they're a joke. I had a quest in a tavern and led me to this undead pirate with a sword that each wave (yes the sword is shooting water waves?) is one shot, it's just one shot... And the worst part? It took me LITERALLY 30 minutes to chop at his hp by cheesing it (because otherwise you lose sanity) Insane amounts of hp and this is a low level quest that you can basically get at lvl 5. That is insane.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The Unity engine really shows its flaws with the open world as well.

The difficulty spikes are infuriating. I don't mean that you find a cave or a ruin and it's too high of a level. I mean that there's a pack of enemies and one archer will two shot you, while all the rest of the enemies in the pack hit you for nothing.
The weapon reach also feels really off. A greatsword feels like it has the range of a dagger.
It's got some promise. I like the atmospherics and the music seemed cool from what I played. The storyline is... Well, I'll reserve judgement for if I ever finish it. But the writing in the first 5 hours does have me quite concerned.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This is not Skryim or Dark Souls. Its Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. We got a quick save and quick load; and a unstuck button (which I haven't had to use yet). Going off achievements it seems like a fair number bounce off before hitting level 20 so let me offer my two unrequested cents.
Learn real quick from the tutorial that you are not that guy sometimes. You can full clear it to be sure at level 1, but one of the optional bosses will put you in your place fast if you go at it with the wrong build. IE, you do not have the skill level yet to run at him two handed or without a shield unless you are a god gamer. The entire game so far does not seem to level scale, meaning sometimes you just gotta take the hint and leave.
Invest in the parrying skill, even if its only the first node that increases the window. I suck at the base parry, as it requires you to do so as the attack would connect, which sometimes is a lil unclear with the pov, plus some foes will feint you or be slow as hell. No matter your build or desired play style, it'll make your life easier and the combat more enjoyable. You can respec easily by getting a potion and one vendor in the first area restocks them for 1,5k which is not much at all when you find a certain fishing spot. Plus you get the feels good of leveling up and getting results.
Take a "Yes and" approach to this game's quests. The amount of times I found a side quest and went "what in the hell are you, and why are you here" was high. Sometimes the tone just feels whimsical in an otherwise bleak hellscape, but the comedy is enjoyable and accents that some characters are just weird. You will meet characters that on paper are anything but human, embrace the Wyrd and roll on.
Lastly, don't go to a quest wiki if you can help it. This game leaves out the paint. If you track a quest that is never ending (like handing in bandit scalps) and or turn off your compass, you get a pretty decent raw exploration of not knowing truly where or what you're supposed to do without paying attention. Its honestly quite rewarding. If you really wanna see both sides (as I often do) just make a save and see which one you favor for the roleplay.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tTainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is a decent game that clearly takes a lot of inspiration from the Elder Scrolls formula. It does a lot of the same things: first person open-world exploration, quests, character builds, loot and plenty of dungeons. I’d say the actual gameplay is better in some areas. The problem for me is that the world itself never really clicked. I never became invested in Avalon or its lore the way I did with the Elder Scrolls games. There are some interesting ideas, characters and locations, but it never reached that point where I actually wanted to dig deeper into the world just because I found it interesting. It felt more like a world I was playing through rather than one I was actually getting lost in.
The story was okay overall. Nothing terrible, and there were some moments I enjoyed, but it never really grabbed me or gave me much reason to think about it after putting the game down. It mostly did its job of pushing me from one area to the next. The gameplay is probably the strongest part, and I had a decent time experimenting with different builds and abilities. However, even that starts to wear off once your build feels like it has reached its full potential. Once you've got your character and gear figured out, there isn't quite as much excitement in continuing to develop your build, and the gameplay starts to feel a bit repetitive.
Overall, it's a decent Elder Scrolls-style RPG with some solid gameplay and plenty of content, but it never gave me that feeling of getting completely absorbed in its world. I enjoyed my time with it, but it never reached the same level of immersion or attachment that the Elder Scrolls games have given me. That said, I still think it's worth trying if you can pick it up on sale. There's a lot to like here, and if you're someone who enjoys this style of RPG, I can definitely see it clicking more with you than it did with me. The foundation is solid, and there's plenty of content to get your money's worth out of it at a discounted price.
