The developers ran a second major sale that ended on August 19th. They announced the 6-month delay on September 1st - exactly 13 days later.
This means the announcement dropped precisely when the official Steam 14-day automated refund window closed for the vast majority of August buyers, making it impossible for them to get an automatic refund.

I’ve spent nearly 50 hours in No Rest for the Wicked since Early Access launched, and I am absolutely done with Moon Studios. What they just did with the 6-month delay is a double-sided scam that completely screwed over both old and new players.
Here is how they played us for fools:
- They lied about the game being ready and abandoned updates. For months, they promised a 1.0 release in October 2026. But the truth is, we haven't received a single major content update since January! The game is completely starved of content with a non-existent endgame. They knew months ago they didn’t have the content ready, but they kept quiet just to keep the hype alive.
- They gaslit old players with false excuses. Whenever long-time backers questioned why there were no major updates for over half a year, the developers kept making the same excuse: "We are withholding all the new content so we can drop it all at once for the massive 1.0 launch." They literally used the upcoming release to justify the total lack of content and to keep old players quiet. Now, we are left with a dead build and NO updates for another six months, while our money is trapped because we are past the Steam refund window.
- They scammed new players with fake FOMO and a false deadline. In early summer, they aggressively pushed a strict deadline (July 10) for newcomers to buy the game, marketing the Founder's Pack as a "one-time exclusive opportunity that will never be available again." They screamed about FOMO just to trigger massive sales numbers. But now that the game is delayed to March 2027, they suddenly extended that "exclusive" pack until January 2027. They did this strictly to pull the exact same cash-grab trick on a new wave of buyers during the Steam Winter Sale.

Just keep saying that all that will come with 1.0 But since these devs have shown that they cannot be trusted, dont expect the game be released on March 2027 either.

At this point, I have absolutely no faith that the March 2027 release date won't be changed once again. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tTo be clear, I have no problem with a developer delaying their game in order to create the best possible product they can. If that is what is needed, then thats what must be done and I sincerely hope on release this game is everything promised and more.
But I do feel the need to leave a review in order to warn potential players about why I felt very deceived by this delay and the concerns I have with how this situation was handled.
I had my eye on this game for a while, but did not purchase it due to hearing about prior rough content launches and because, when it comes to early access games, I personally like to be confident a game will actually release in the state I am hoping for before spending money on it. So when I saw the release date announcement and a final sale before then with founder benefits, I went ahead and purchased the game to show my support and hopefully help get the game over the finish line. Since then, until the beginning of September, we heard nothing. I even resorted to looking at CEO Thomas Mahler's X account from time to time in hopes of small updates on the state of the game and found him talking about how the studio was in the "Balders Gate 3 stage" of development, going quiet to focus on perfecting the game. Sure, makes enough sense. He even promoted his own AI built side project game. Nice, he must be feeling good about the upcoming release if hes spending time and company effort on setting up a side studio for that. Instead, we now have a sudden and LONG delay. Frankly, its hard not to feel tricked here, in part because the game has convieniently left the steam refund window since the release date announcement. One has to wonder what happened here and why weve been told nothing about the delay besides "we're sorry" and "its going to take longer". If they really need this much extra time, why did they feel so confidently about releasing in October to announce that in the first place. Why was their CEO on X over the past few weeks waxing poetic about how much theyve achieved and how many cool things they want to do with this game and others when presumably they had some idea a delay might be needed? What Ive played of the game so far is solid, but it lacks features such as the promised class system and the rest of the story that aside from some screenshots and a bit of communication from the developers we have seen no evidence of this content actually functioning in game. The fact that this delay included none of that only further raises my concerns. Again, I am all for supporting developers as they work on games and believe in giving grace when the underlying product is sound as it seems to be here. But the way this has been handled leaves a sour taste in my mouth and I felt like I had to say something. 3 years in early access is quite a long time, and its been quite a while since this game has recieved any new content beyond coop at rhis point. As it stands, I would not recommend purchasing the game before release at this time, given the practices demonstrated here and the games history of poor new content launches.

\n\n\t\t\t\tBut I do feel the need to leave a review in order to warn potential players about why I felt very deceived by this delay and the concerns I have with how this situation was handled.
I had my eye on this game for a while, but did not purchase it due to hearing about prior rough content launches and because, when it comes to early access games, I personally like to be confident a game will actually release in the state I am hoping for before spending money on it. So when I saw the release date announcement and a final sale before then with founder benefits, I went ahead and purchased the game to show my support and hopefully help get the game over the finish line. Since then, until the beginning of September, we heard nothing. I even resorted to looking at CEO Thomas Mahler's X account from time to time in hopes of small updates on the state of the game and found him talking about how the studio was in the "Balders Gate 3 stage" of development, going quiet to focus on perfecting the game. Sure, makes enough sense. He even promoted his own AI built side project game. Nice, he must be feeling good about the upcoming release if hes spending time and company effort on setting up a side studio for that. Instead, we now have a sudden and LONG delay. Frankly, its hard not to feel tricked here, in part because the game has convieniently left the steam refund window since the release date announcement. One has to wonder what happened here and why weve been told nothing about the delay besides "we're sorry" and "its going to take longer". If they really need this much extra time, why did they feel so confidently about releasing in October to announce that in the first place. Why was their CEO on X over the past few weeks waxing poetic about how much theyve achieved and how many cool things they want to do with this game and others when presumably they had some idea a delay might be needed? What Ive played of the game so far is solid, but it lacks features such as the promised class system and the rest of the story that aside from some screenshots and a bit of communication from the developers we have seen no evidence of this content actually functioning in game. The fact that this delay included none of that only further raises my concerns. Again, I am all for supporting developers as they work on games and believe in giving grace when the underlying product is sound as it seems to be here. But the way this has been handled leaves a sour taste in my mouth and I felt like I had to say something. 3 years in early access is quite a long time, and its been quite a while since this game has recieved any new content beyond coop at rhis point. As it stands, I would not recommend purchasing the game before release at this time, given the practices demonstrated here and the games history of poor new content launches.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tNo Rest for the Wicked is the type of game that grabs you immediately. From the presentation, the opening sequence and combat, the game just CLICKS. It feels good to play, it feels fun... for the first dozens of hours.
As you play, the cracks start to appear and they become increasingly more annoying.
Starting off with progression: Loot is randomized. Every chest, every drop is random and this means that you could potentially get something really good or straight up garbage. On paper, this shouldn't be so bad. There's a variety of games that have this exact system but the reason why it doesn't work here on NRFTW is because your gear can be upgraded.
The game expects you to upgrade your stuff as you progress through the main quests. Enemy scaling ramps up considerably if you don't but why would you even bother spending resources upgrading things that you may throw away on the next minute? Well, normally, that wouldn't be a problem but it conflicts directly with the resource gathering and town restoration feature of this game.
See, in No Rest for the Wicked, you're asked to help rebuild the main town, Sacrament. Every store can be upgraded and this is the main slog that makes the game lose all of its traction.
Every single time, you're expected to stop and gather resources, chop down a tree and break some rocks. The problem is that the nodes reset on a IRL timer and each node only gives two of its main material with the chance of giving an extra (i.e: trees giving logs and potentially, sap).
ONCE AGAIN, this wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for two things:
1. Town requires A LOT of materials. Some town upgrades has you gathering 20 nodes worth of trees or rocks, sometimes more.
2. The exact same resources you need for your town upgrades is shared with your gear.
The combination of these two factors turn progression into an absolute chore where you'll spend more time collecting resources like some sort of survival game instead of exploring, fighting enemies and completing dungeons like, y'know, an ARPG.
Everything else in this game is phenomenal in my opinion. The game is gorgeous, each area is a relatively enjoyable experience thanks to the platforming. Combat is just the right amount of challenge, despite the fact it can be frustrating sometimes with how enemies don't have to worry about Stamina (used for actions) or Focus (used for spells and skills) but since there isn't much of a punishment when dying, outside of durability loss, it's not a huge deal.
This is why the game hooks you in from the get go but it loses momentum as you push past the 10 hour mark and I'm honestly struggling to convince myself to continue.
I want to! Because the game is super fun! But every time I open it up I'm spending more time chopping trees because I need to upgrade my gear before progressing but then I need to upgrade my town to be able to upgrade my gear by refining the basic resources that I now need to gather all over again.
The way this review ended up being written is exactly how you go through the game and its systems.

When they announced a 1.0 development with lots of content before going completely silent - i thinked "well, thats fair enough, lets wait till October".
Turned out they did not finished even 30% of 1.0 and moved release date for 6 months later.
Instead of working on the 1.0 Thomas Mahler (studio director) doing the following :
1. Posting a "successfull life" photos in instagram from his Monaco trip and new 2026 Audi RS 6 Avant
2. Sharing a progress of another game development.
3. Offering a development help to Fable team.
4. Launching a game review/critics portals.
5. Starting a podcasts and streams where he talks about things not being related to game.
In overall he is doing everything besides what he is promised.
So, before buying be aware that you are buying a 40h gameplay demo which release date could be moved for another 6 months lmfao.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

- Make town upgrades cheaper. I don't mind gathering resources as I explore, and I don't mind the upgrade system as a whole, but the upgrades require too many resources. I found myself dedicating time to "resource runs", and that part of the gameplay felt hollow. I would much prefer to get all or most of the resources I need for the town upgrades from fully exploring a zone, and revisiting zones for more meaningful content.
- Make it easier to refund attribute points. This game offers so many playstyles, and locking attribute refunds behind the roguelike content making the player spend a valuable resource feels very bad. I would rather the player be encouraged to experiment.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThis game was a very pleasant surprise. Basically Diablo mixed with Souls-like mechanics. Personally, it also reminded me a little bit of Kingdoms of Amalur at times.
As an ARPG, it mixes classic RPG progression with Souls-like combat, but thankfully without feeling clunky, as it is often the case with these games. You level up, spend XP and distribute stats like in a traditional RPG, while combat revolves around dodging, blocking, parrying and timing your attacks. Death only costs gear durability, and Whispers (teleport points) are usually close enough that the game never feels as punishing as a typical Souls game. A big part of the loop is also farming resources for crafting and upgrading consumables, gear and vendor stalls.
The level design is one of its strongest points for me. Areas are intricate, interconnected and full of progressively unlocked shortcuts à la first Dark Souls. Exploration is enticing, even though the loot is RNG, because of the atmosphere and the curiosity to see what's around the next corner. The city of Sacrament works both as the central hub connecting the different areas, like Firelink Shrine, and as your base of operations, with vendors and crafting. You can also buy and decorate houses, gain comfort buffs while sleeping, and add crafting stations for basically everything: food, potions, weapons, armor, furniture, etc.
The story is nothing groundbreaking, but engaging enough and well integrated into the world.
The art style is not cartoonish, but more like a unique fairytale painting brought to life. The cutscenes are especially atmospheric.
The music fits the atmosphere nicely without ever becoming intrusive.
Co-op is handled pretty well, imo. You can create a single-player world and share it online with up to 3 other players. Quest progression is tied to the realm, while players keep their XP and loot. Once a player is granted access to a realm, they can join whenever they want and keep playing, even if the realm admin (original creator) is offline, unless the admin kicks them. After 78 hours of co-op, I only had desync issues once or twice, nothing major.
The current balancing needs some work. There are no real classes, so everything depends on stats and gear requirements, but some builds are clearly much more viable and easier to play than others. A shield + wand build can block, parry, fight in melee and cast extremely powerful spells, while archers after the recent nerf feel stuck at short-mid range unless they go hybrid. More build balance would definitely help.
Performance still needs optimization. I've had frequent frame drops, especially in newer areas. The game can also be oddly CPU/GPU-bound depending on the scene, with heavy GPU usage, CPU spikes, traversal stutters and inconsistent frametimes.
Overall, it's really damn good ARPG with excellent exploration and combat. Still a bit rough around the edges, which is understandable since it's still in EA. From what I've seen so far of what's coming with the 1.0 release, I'm genuinely excited about its new class system, new zones and its future in general. I'd honestly recommend grabbing it now, as I doubt the price will go down when 1.0 is released. The team deserves a lot of respect for sticking with the project and continuing to improve it despite all the issues they've had with their publisher. Unless that you game is far of being ready but you want some more money, so you put a discount, anunce a 1.0 version, tell everyone about the ¨rewards¨ of buying the game pre-release, and a month before release, you delay it another 6 months.

Game does not take it easy at all. Game design and how the world is is really impressive I haven't played a game similar to this in my experiences. I recommend this game to others. Take your time with learning what you like to use. Not a fan of the heavy weapons as the damage is very similar to a one handed weapon upgrade *One upgrade or leveling up the stat that corresponds to the weapon*. Took a minute to grasp and fully understand the way focus builds. Grinding for materials and money can be fun but very long and difficult depending on the material needed. Overall I would give it a solid 9/10. I haven't progressed much due to the fact of the daily challenges and running crucible. The game itself is very good, the systems are well thought out, the weapon variety is good and the world and story are engaging. The camera suffers sometimes, especially during traversal sections that feature combat, but thats a minor gripe.
