I desperately wanted to like this, but the game constantly forces you to put out fires instead of letting you actually plan ahead. The UI shows you global resources, but it completely hides local stock. This forces you to tediously click on every single individual building in an area just to see what supplies are actually available. New items unlock without giving you proper supply information, leaving you blind until localized problems take place and tank your local satisfaction levels.
This lack of visibility makes basic tasks like staffing a ship completely frustrating. When you hire a new crew member like a picaroon, you have no way of knowing if the local area can sustain their upkeep. After they are on board, you find out you don't have supplies for them, and local stats start to plummet. You'll have a fertile area that fits two plantations, but is literally 1% too small for a third. The cliffs, terrain boundaries, and road placement have similar problems.
The result is an ugly spaghetti of roads and buildings. Even when you have a clear idea of how you want to organize everything, the game constantly fights you. Instead of designing something clean and efficient, you're forced to squeeze things wherever they'll fit and settle for "good enough, as long as the supplies arrive."
And that's what frustrates me the most. I actually WANT to optimize things. I want to plan efficient routes, organize production chains, and build something that works beautifully. Limited space and difficult logistics can make for excellent gameplay, but only when the game gives you the tools to solve those problems intelligently. Here, so many of the limitations feel arbitrary rather than challenging.
Ironically, while the island layout makes optimization unnecessarily difficult, the actual logistics feel too simple. You can largely just place production wherever the materials are needed, and that's enough to keep everything supplied. There's surprisingly little incentive to develop a genuinely sophisticated transportation or distribution network.
Why can't we transfer goods between pirate camps? Why does practically every camp need the same ten basic resources, followed by one or two specialized requirements? Every new camp starts to feel like repeating the same checklist instead of building a larger, interconnected economy.
I'd love to see camps that genuinely specialize, trade with one another, and depend on properly planned supply routes. Make distribution more challenging. Make the economy more interconnected. Give us meaningful reasons to design efficient systems.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI would give this game a neutral rating if I could. I double checked to see it it was in beta, because it feels like the devs never actually played it.
First, the good.
I was complaining about The Core because for a sciency builder, you cant make an efficient factory. in Corsair Cove that's the point! It is fun and crazy and beautiful and chaotic. And yes, ridiculously repetitive. each 'camp' is small-ish, needs its own infrastructure, a different population. Odd mechanics. Tidbit: I made a large tower and lost the game because I could not build the infrastructure in that 'camp' for the advanced workers. They demanded something I literally could not provide. You need to build the right tier ship first, which unlocks the buildings.
Once you get things running, its hums along pretty steady. you need constant input of peeps and coin because they die a lot. Then you need stuff you cant make -- by design. Wine for instance. sure, some paths allow you to build a structure to trade for it, but mostly you have to go take it. Pirates.
The bad, and it's pretty bad.
The card game is worse than the bad reviews say. You lose a lot of ships. There is a level two event (two bit crew I think) that destroys my lev 4 ships. There is a ghost ship that kills freaking everything. So, you build a ship, sent it out for ten minutes, it dies, then do it again, then do it again. No avoiding encounters, no limping home.
So you say, OK we treat pirates and ships as a disposable resource. Build them regularly, send them out . . . and you are doing nothing but building ships, sending them out, waiting ten minutes, turning over the same four cards, dying. That is worse than tedious. You say, "it couldn't be this poorly designed, could it?" "Are you sure its not a beta?"
No RPG, no ship experience, no commander experience, no tactics, no strategy. No actual fun.
But the island is creative and interesting and beautiful, and the story is captivating. So . . . is there a game in there somewhere waiting to come out?\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I was complaining about The Core because for a sciency builder, you cant make an efficient factory. in Corsair Cove that's the point! It is fun and crazy and beautiful and chaotic. And yes, ridiculously repetitive. each 'camp' is small-ish, needs its own infrastructure, a different population. Odd mechanics. Tidbit: I made a large tower and lost the game because I could not build the infrastructure in that 'camp' for the advanced workers. They demanded something I literally could not provide. You need to build the right tier ship first, which unlocks the buildings.
Once you get things running, its hums along pretty steady. you need constant input of peeps and coin because they die a lot. Then you need stuff you cant make -- by design. Wine for instance. sure, some paths allow you to build a structure to trade for it, but mostly you have to go take it. Pirates.
The bad, and it's pretty bad.
The card game is worse than the bad reviews say. You lose a lot of ships. There is a level two event (two bit crew I think) that destroys my lev 4 ships. There is a ghost ship that kills freaking everything. So, you build a ship, sent it out for ten minutes, it dies, then do it again, then do it again. No avoiding encounters, no limping home.
So you say, OK we treat pirates and ships as a disposable resource. Build them regularly, send them out . . . and you are doing nothing but building ships, sending them out, waiting ten minutes, turning over the same four cards, dying. That is worse than tedious. You say, "it couldn't be this poorly designed, could it?" "Are you sure its not a beta?"
No RPG, no ship experience, no commander experience, no tactics, no strategy. No actual fun.
But the island is creative and interesting and beautiful, and the story is captivating. So . . . is there a game in there somewhere waiting to come out?\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

That's where the good things kind of come to an end, in the early game it's still easily doable but by tier 3 or 4 you need to transport things from one pirate camp to another without any good fast way to actually transport these things long distances. There's also no way to move built ships to another harbour which is annoying because when you first build up ships you don't really know which resources you need for the higher tier and the suddenly you need things you can't build at your current harbour...
For a Logistics game logistics are very... annoying to actually play at the higher tiers...

The game looks pretty, the settlements are quirky. I love the combination of building and exploration.
However, I think the game has a few issues that dim my enjoyment.
1. Settlement management: Let's be real - for a seasoned city builder gamer, the system isn't complex. But it gets tedious. You're not building one large community, you're building 5 or more. They are all affected by the same events at the same time, so if you are dealing with an effect that reduces food production -75%, you'll have a lot of rejiggling to do. Not really what I became a pirate for.
2. Sea battles, island exploration, whale hunting etc. all work with the same very simple system. It gets boring really quickly. If you try to stick to one of the four main paths of the game, you are doomed to repeat the same events. The game doesn't even mark which ones you have already played, so I found myself accidentally restarting stuff.
3. The story telling just isn't captivating. That is the crux for me. I could deal with the above points if I felt rewarded for it with the progression of an interesting story. But it's all too box standard. The early game antagonist has barely any personality. And while I sailed on lvl 3-4 ships, she disappeared entirely. There are other side characters that sound more interesting when first introduced, but it's all just surface paint.

The building and logistics management of the island itself is fine and fun, but the ship mechanics and "gameplay" are...horrible. I finally get a level 2 ship, send it off to an event to get more Drifters, run into a pirate hunter event that I didn't see, immediately lose level 2 ship because my tier 2 ship was outclassed by the level 3 pirate hunters in every regard and the card based battle system provides zero strategic counterplay. Since its a level and dice based system, you're never going to win a battle you're under-leveled for, and even if you had the level or stats, its a complete RNG s***show. No offense to the devs, they made the game they wanted to make, but this would've been way more fun with RTS ship battles.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Once you start building Tier 4 ships the resource chains become VERY tedious to fill the crew and satisfy the need they bring. This to an extend that it is nearly impossible to run a happy ship. The reason why I'm giving it a thumbs down is mainly due to how the warehouses work. There is a limit in the number of resources and the number fetchers per resource. This creates weird complexities. For example if you have 4 producers they cannot be collected by the same warehouse because it maxes at 3. This forces the player into adopting a supply-chain system, which may not be ideal or preferred. I also don't think this limit is necessary for the game; it's plenty challenging as is given the limited space in the archipelago anyways.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I enjoyed this game overall. Really charming characters and setting. I spent many hours leaving it open as an "idle game" just to enjoy the great music and ambiance.
In the end I can't openly endorse this game due to four reasons:
Too much AI sloppa.
Trying too hard to be AAA and addictive.
Typical Unreal5 performance issues and memory leaks.
I could actually overlook all those if not for the last reason, and that is the battle sounds (and a few others) are just WAY more loud than the rest of the game, and there is NO VOLUME SLIDER for them. The game has this great beachy aesthetic but at any moment your peace can be disturbed with a "THAAAAA-THWACK" sound of a battle starting, a ship finding some random thing that doesn't even launch an instance, and a few other random events. And ALL of the battles are just WAY too loud and bassy. Sorry guys, I'm not going to redo my entire speaker setup because you're loo lazy to ad a volume slider.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

It is a city builder/base builder and I fine that it does that very well, it is fun making the chaotic pathways and solving the supply lines with a cool pirate theme.
