\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tA really solid game, start to finish. Took me about 70 hours to 100% both base game and the Woolhaven expansion (which you should absolutely get too) combined.
The majority of the game is on the simpler side. Combat is 3 attack methods (light, heavy, spell), a dodge roll, and a relic (an extra ability, if you find one that's reusable). There's a couple of weapon and spell types, with variations, and you also get passive abilities via tarot cards you find each run. The cult management is basically just keeping your cult happy, fed, and clean (and warm sometimes, with the expansion active). Buildings tend to require no or minimal input, cultist management is done with a quick action wheel, rituals are cutscenes.
Still, dispite the simplicity, it manages to stay engaging by keeping you swapping between activities and giving out a steady stream of unlocks. It all just flows together really nicely.
If I had any complaint, it would be that when going for the 100%, it drags a bit towards the end of both the base game (devotion grind, sitting at base just collecting it from the shrine) and Woolhaven (wool grind, just passing time waiting for animals to grow). That's hardly a mark aginst the game, though. An hour or two that was slightly boring when 100%ing a game this length shows how well it was designed.

I've already played Cult of the Lamb on Switch, and I was more than happy to support Massive Monster by picking it up on Steam as well. And honestly? I have to admit... it's just as much fun the second time around.But what exactly is Cult of the Lamb? Gameplay
Well, it's actually pretty simple. You kill them. Because underneath all the cute little animals and cozy village-building, Cult of the Lamb is also a damn good action roguelike. You head into dungeons, hack and slash your way through hordes of enemies, collect loot, and then return to your cult to perform rituals, unlock upgrades, and make yourself stronger.Eventually, you'll be ready to take on the Four Old Gods. And of course, there's more to the game than just the main story and dungeon runs. There are plenty of fun minigames and side quests to keep you busy, and quite a few of them genuinely had me entertained.
Presentation
I absolutely love the art style of Cult of the Lamb. At first glance, everything looks incredibly cute and wholesome. And then you realize what kind of game you're actually playing. Satanic rituals, sacrifices, curses, and violence are just part of everyday life. You know, the usual stuff.The music fits the game perfectly as well. There were plenty of moments where I found myself completely vibing along while playing.
Final words
If you enjoy roguelikes, like building and managing your own base, have a bit of a fascination with cults, creepy rituals and questionable sacrifices, and somehow haven't heard of Cult of the Lamb yet, I can wholeheartedly recommend it.I had an absolute blast playing it on Switch, and I'd happily buy it again.

For some reason, this game reminds me of "Don’t Starve" and "The Binding of Isaac" combined into a single game set in a world of the occult and paganism. The game has an incredibly appealing visual style that’s perfectly complemented by the music. All of this has created a fandom around the game, and that’s what saved it, since technically the game isn’t as good as the developer might have intended.
The game tries to be both a roguelike and a city-building simulator, but these two different genres don’t complement each other - they exist separately. From a roguelike perspective, there are too few weapon and ability options in this game to build your character to suit a specific playstyle. And from the perspective of a city-building simulator… well, it feels like an afterthought here. And I’m not talking about creating new laws and commandments - that part works great! What I mean is that designing the camp and managing the inhabitants feel a bit superfluous, as if they were a separate game within another game, and they don’t complement each other at all.
