\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tAfter spending a completely totally normal amount of time in a game that I have owned for less than two weeks, I can confidently say that I greatly enjoy Planet Crafter. This game was recommended to me by a friend after I had finished the Subnautica 2 early access content, as I was chomping at the bit for more of that particular brand of Survival Crafting, and wowie did it not disappoint.
- Gameplay: Like honestly, just. Everything. The progression is incredible, feels organic, and objective tracking gives that wonderful wonderful bliss of Number Go Up. you start off on a red rock with basic materials and have to survive with a multitool, a few pouches of food, and a bunch of rocks you find on the planet's surface. You start with a short list of getting to your first major terraforming stage, and after that it's all up to you. As you gather materials, you get recipes from your totally benevolent corporate overlords for more advanced machines and equipment upgrades. Use them to explore further the planet you've landed on, find higher-tier materials, and build the ever increasing list of machines and base modules to turn this seemingly desolate red rock into a habitable planet with a breathable atmosphere.
- Controls and UI: Largely intuitive. Point and click to gather resources. I think I did the first time have to check which button was bound to the build menu, but that may also have been because my neurotic fool self missed the prompt on the screen. I genuinely can't remember. It's Q by default if you're on keyboard by the way. Menus are solidly organized and generally easy to navigate.
- Story: YEAH BABY THERE'S A STORY AND IT'S MORE THAN JUST "your job is make planet nice, godspeed :)" AND IT SLAPS!!! IT SLAPS HARD!!! From the go it's hinted at, but as you explore and progress and Make Discoveries, it all unfolds in a WONDERFULLY satisfying way, and it is a very mild (but very good!!) horror story. No jumpscares, just some nice creeping dread and dawning horrific implications. Chef's kiss all around.
- The DLC: I have only finished one of the extra planets (Humble), but if you like the base game, you will like the other planets. You get to go to the other moons and planets in the solar system after a certain point deep in late game, and it does not disappoint. Behold once more the joy of Number Go Up, AND each planet comes with its own unique story line! The DLC planets can also be picked as starting points for the beginning of a new game, but in all honesty I think that should be reserved for challenge runs.
- The Performance: Solid all around. My coplayer and I have had a little bit of weird and wiggy graphical things every so often (I once found a cliff that did not actually exist, that was wild), but honestly that is to be expected on such a large scale game made by two whole people. The game is still being updated, and I have confidence that anything major will be quickly rectified, because that's what someone who loves their craft like I can feel in this game does. The game runs well, I had one crash one time when my computer was already acting a fool. My coplayer has never had issues with connecting, we have never suffered lag, I have never launched this game and been concerned about technical tomfoolery.
- Ok I'm probably gonna have to reach into the very bowels of haterism for this because in my humble opinion this game is basically tailor made for me specifically. But no game is perfect, and to claim perfection is BIAS. I will NOT be biased, this review WILL be meaningful and not baseless glazing!
The very worst things I can think of in this game are two mildly annoying crafting grievences: a couple of later game upgrades feel like they should maybe be base game QOL features.
Very specifically, you have to craft equipment upgrades and use equipment slots to pin blueprints and to hide low-level machines. Considering some machines go up to level 5, and every one is literal ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE better than the tier below it in every way, I can make searching through your crafting menu in mid-game a little annoying.
The blueprint thing is annoying because certain recipes can only be crafted from certain items (for example, you can only craft rockets on the rocket launch pad). This would be fine, except you can also only SEE the recipe from those crafting stations as well. So for more complex recipes, if you don't have the blueprint pin chip, you kinda just have to hope you remember everything, take a manual pic, or run back and forth between storage and the crafting station to remember ingredients.
Like I said, annoying, but ultimately, nothing that truly infringes upon my joy of the game.

On top of that the progression is natural and as the planet changes it opens new areas to explore and new discoveries to make. The lore is beautiful and the 'instructions' are cleverly strewn around adding more to the immersion. The whole thing is somewhat haunting at times and it has stories to tell if you look.
You're not done when you've finished the first planet either, I was so bummed to get to the end thinking I would have to leave my beautiful save only to find you can travel to and terraform more planets! You'll land on a barren planet and are tasked with of course, terraforming it. Progress will start off slow and the visual improvements minimal, but it all builds upon the idea of delayed gratification. It's something that is better experienced, rather than described, it hits all of the right notes. It truly is a joy to see what your progress causes on the planet you're on, every major milestone feels impactful visually, and that's awesome.
There are no enemies to speak of, the only real enemy is nature, so you'll be contending with some basic survival meters likes oxygen, life / food and thirst. Oxygen will be the first major hurdle and exploration will feel pathetic until you start getting exo-suit upgrades. Once you do though, exploration is worthwhile and even without enemies to keep you engaged, enjoyable.
My only real critique of the game is that I wish you could do more to spruce up your living spaces, foundation clipping is a problem and some things like biodomes for example, don't snap or attach nicely.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tPROS: Ran well. Progress is very visual. Pacing was alright. Feels like it was a labor of love made by a very small team. The game eventually ends.
CONS: The core loop feels extremely tedious. The QOL features inherent to the entire genre of crafting and other automation games is noticeably absent. There is no quick-stack or even stacking of items. I ended up just accepting the mid-late game is simply just moving items around and configuring stacks of items to get moved around.
Regarding the narrative components: This felt extremely thin. I get most people don't look to these games for compelling narratives, but if I have to play one more 'Overwhelmingly Positive' crafting game where the end screen is essentially a dialog box and 20-second animation I'm going to explode. Why put so much work into something and then completely miss the opportunity to make the player feel more connected to the world or express something at all? At least Satisfactory has TWO character voices. Factorio? Zero. This game? Zero. It's just a collection of emails. I deeply love crafting and automation games (i.e. Factorio, Satisfactory, Dyson Sphere Program Sandustry, ect.). I'd recommend staying away from this one, unless you're genuinely out of options. I feel like other games do so many other things better and better overall, they're still just more worth the time.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
\n\n\t\t\t\tCONS: The core loop feels extremely tedious. The QOL features inherent to the entire genre of crafting and other automation games is noticeably absent. There is no quick-stack or even stacking of items. I ended up just accepting the mid-late game is simply just moving items around and configuring stacks of items to get moved around.
Regarding the narrative components: This felt extremely thin. I get most people don't look to these games for compelling narratives, but if I have to play one more 'Overwhelmingly Positive' crafting game where the end screen is essentially a dialog box and 20-second animation I'm going to explode. Why put so much work into something and then completely miss the opportunity to make the player feel more connected to the world or express something at all? At least Satisfactory has TWO character voices. Factorio? Zero. This game? Zero. It's just a collection of emails. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tIt feels wrong to give a "Wouldn't Recommend" to a game I'm on my second playthrough of, but no, I wouldn't recommend it to friends even though I enjoy it. It's very close to it, but it's too tedious to recommend to friends with limited gaming time.
The basics are all there; gathering and crafting loops, survival, unlocking rewards, increasing exploration range, an end goal, wrecks and more. And it kind of stops at the basics, focusing instead on the novelty/gimmick of terraforming to make up the gap.
Things I enjoy:
- no combat
- difficulty customization
- simple mechanics (heat/pressure/oxygen/rockets/power/etc are simply global - NO POWER LINES!!)
- unlocking stuff randomly (great dopamine hit)
- runs like a dream
- terraforming is damn cool
- relaxing
- the "new in this playthrough" vehicle is a cool mobile backpack
Things that could be improved:
- Inventory management QoL (have we learned nothing in the last 20 years? quickstack, autosort, craft from nearby, etc etc etc).
- Reduce the percentage of gametime that is simply walking from A to B. There are many ways to achieve this.
- Separate survival mechanic difficulty controls; allow reducing hunger and thirst without also reducing oxygen use (I felt that hunger and thirst were annoying and not fun, not fitting for a fairly casual game like this - it's not a lowkey horror game like Subnautica).
- More direction. I start the game and just kinda build stuff without having a super clear idea of what I'm aiming for; some larger milestones or even just making it more obvious what the existing milestones are would help focus the game.
- Cheaper resource extractor, and/or don't have multiple tiers.
Ultimately, I spend too much time re-walking the same trails to gather some resource over and over again without having a firm goal except "build stuff to make numbers go up". It is, of course, a self-directed game, but other great self-directed games have a bit more direction and tighter loops, in my opinion.
But, if you're just looking for something that runs on a potato and you can turn your brain off to, this is a decent one!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI'm not the biggest fan of games set in space and there's mechanics in this that I normally don't gravitate towards, but it seemed fun enough to play with my friends. I was wrong. Wrong about it only being fun "enough", I mean. The aspects I thought I would dislike are somehow exactly the mechanics I've been drawn to while playing. Everything is put together in such a way that you forget why you thought you might not have liked parts of it. And everything you do contributes at least /something/ to the main goal, so especially in a group it's nice to have everyone doing whatever they want in the moment and still feel like you're all working on the same thing together. At the same time there's a lot of room for minmaxing if that's what you're into, and I'm excited to replay the game on my own after we finish our current playthrough and apply all the things I've learned. I wanna collect all the thiiiiiiings! Every session we go "surely we're nearing the end now right" and then the game hits us with a completely new concept to explore. There is also tremendous screenshot potential, all the different areas look so beautiful and because the landscape changes as you terraform you can go back to places you've already been and they'll be beautiful for a completely different reason. Reducing it to the word "screenshot" feels like a bit of an insult honestly, it really is more like photography to me. Genuinely fantastic game.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tKinda addicting but also boring, bad looking, scuffed, too simple, devs of this game avoided 90% of work other developers do - theres no combat, no puzzles, no challenege, theres no points of interest except some copy pasted ship wrecks, no story, no npcs, no complex controls or interactions with anything. Badsic music, terrain clipping,gameplay of waiting for somethign to happen with buildings while tending to 3 non stop draining need bars, 1 vehcile that literraly drives underwater same as on land, visuals from l 2007 etc etc . Being basicly a ultra dumbed down clone of subnautica/ satisfactory why it has so good reviews is mind boggling.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
