\n\t\t\t\t\tElden Ring is, the best game ever made, not a question about it, however in march 2026, oasis bought out 13.7% of kodokawa who owns FromSoftware, this makes oasis the largest share holder of kodokawa, oasis's biggest focus is "pushing for changes to boost shareholder returns", one of thier most shocking propositions was to nintendo in 2013, in which they proposed and idea for nintendo to go mobile and push things such as 99c micro transactions to "make mario jump higher", this is exactly what is happening to elden ring right now, a $5 usd micro transaction for what is essentially two armour sets, they have already been bought out, and it is only going to get worse, but if YOU and other buy these dlc's you are only giving them what they want and this will only make it worse.

\n\t\t\t\t\tElden Ring was my first souls game. I started on PS4 and got the platinum, then did the same on PS5, and now I’ve finally 100% completed it on Steam.

After playing it this much, I can easily say it’s one of my favorite games of all time. The world, exploration, bosses, builds, there’s just so much to this game, and I never got tired of coming back to it.

If you’ve never played a souls game before, I still highly recommend giving elden ring a try. It was my first one too, when I first played it, I had no idea what I was doing and ended up looking up videos to figure things out since the game doesn't really guide you like most games do. dnt be afraid to look things up if you're stuck, take your time, explore, and learn the game at your own pace.

It's an absolute masterpiece, can’t recommend it enough, and I can’t wait to see what FromSoftware does next.\t\t\t\t\t

On a serious note, yes I hear you people, it's just 5 bucks, it's comparatively good value. This is more than scary for the future of From to me and this move definitely kicked Fromsoft out of the League of Devs I can trust blindly. Elden Ring is a masterpiece of a game with excellent story telling and visuals. It's a piece of art that I intend to continue to share with as many people as I can because good art deserves to be seen. So why the negative.
FromSoftwares parent company recently had a shift in power via a stock buy from a company who has shown anticonsumer interests in the past. Now I'm not going to lie to you about the contents of the 5$ addon. It's something like 5 sets of armor, 2 npc encounters, and 3 cosmetic skins for your steed. These may not be the exact details, and in any other game this would be not the most egregious addon on offer. But this is the first of it's kind in a fromsoft title. It's a canary so to speak. What is more important to me is the history of the addon itself. The addon was a way to move copies for the switch 2. This extra content was exclusive to the switch 2 for a period and is now being allowed to branch out to the other versions. Which is fine, that's how business works. The problem, however, is that the switch 2 copy of elden ring is the exact same price as the shadow of the erdtree bundle. Meaning switch 2 has the new addon content, the dlc, and the base game for 79.99. Everyone else is the ONLY ONES footing the "bill" for this addon content.
Recently a "community quest" went live. It doesn't matter what the challenges are, the rewards are artwork and twitch badges which irrelevant to the game. This is a blatant bid to boost player count. The company that bought the controlling interest is a hedge fund, more players means higher share price. I'm not fooled and neither should you be. Participate in the quests, there's no harm in playing the game you love. But don't buy the horse armor. It's a trap, a crack in the ice, the first of many needles.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tI'm writing this mostly as a reaction to all the negative reviews from my friends: none of them actually justify their negative score, or they fault the game for simply being what it is.

For the record, I'm not a Dark Souls fan. I'm not even a FromSoftware fan. I abandoned Elden Ring after the Hoarfrost Stomp nerf because, frankly, I'm too much of a noob to play it. This game tilts me. It makes me rage.

I also worked as a professional game reviewer for quite a while, though that was over 15 years ago. And while hack-and-slash has never been my genre of choice, it strikes me as preposterous to give this game a negative review.

Elden Ring is objectively well made, and more than that, it's a masterpiece that deserves to be remembered for everything it does well. Which is to say: everything. The graphics, the sound, the gameplay, the freedom it gives you, the sheer longevity, the lore, the story, the art direction.

Yes, the game doesn't hold your hand or throw a tutorial in your face every time you discover something new. I consider that a plus. I hate how hand-holding games have become, and refusing to guide the player is intrinsic to the Souls-like formula anyway; doing otherwise here would be nonsense. And yes, some bosses can feel repetitive, but I don't think it hurts the experience. This is a gigantic game, and at the end of the day every single corner of the world feels worth exploring, because every one of them hides something new.

Some context on what that's worth to me: I usually spend between €2 and €10 on a new game. If I think the developers deserve real support and recognition, I'll go as high as €30, but almost exclusively for indie studios. I paid €59.99 for this one, a week after launch, after already putting 44 hours into it. Why? Because the moment I found the entrance to the Siofra River Well, I felt obliged to give FromSoftware what they deserved for this fantastic game.

This is one of those games that will be remembered as a masterpiece, one of those games that explain why some people call video games art. Elden Ring, along with just about everything else FromSoftware has created, is a solid entry in the canon. There is no denying this. This review has nothing to do with the base game. Yes, I think you know what this is actually about. The ugly little elephant which consistently plagues the gaming industry as well as the many aspects of modern life, I'm afraid. Consolidation of power, income inequality, the end of individual ownership. You see these phenomena play out in all walks of life. And yes, it's infected even the most beloved studios of our day. Perhaps this is inevitable, but this is no reason to give in to mediocrity and extortion.

The implications of "horse armor" need no introduction. Once implemented, they tend to signal a decline in the equitable partnership between player and developer. Bethesda, Ubisoft, EA, Activision, to name the obvious ones. Oh microtransactions. Oh gated content. Oh Pre-order bonuses. "They are totally optional. They are purely cosmetic." "Content" of this kind is completely overwhelming in the space today, so commonplace that few even seem to notice or remember a time before their coercive ubiquity, but those of us who do remember, we are still out here, and we still care. I know whoever decides to read this cares too. And you can do something about it.

As a very simple and free form of activism, I implore you not to buy the new Elden Ring "DLC," or any DLC like this. As others have said, this very well could have been a free update. I hope it goes without saying that no one who loves FromSoft would begrudge giving them money for genuine add-on content to their games. However, we all know this is not coming from the hardworking developers. No, this is yet another push from shareholders to extract what little money you have to spare. It really isn't about $5. It's about the intrinsic and ever diminishing supply of one's own time. It is long overdue that we all reckon deeply with this fact. You're getting older. You don't have as much freedom to do the things you want to do anymore, and as more of life gets behind you, the equation will never pencil out in your favor again. So for all that is good in the Universe, please stop wasting your life.\t\t\t\t\t

The beginning and mid game was absolutely amazing and interesting, however the more i have played, the more realized how much recycled this game is. The illusion of originality lies only in main story bosses, while roughly 70% of content is actually recycled. It's not just bosses, but regular enemies, dungeons, previous games enemies and its animations. It makes it less original game than free to play games such as gacha games (Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves, where Wuthering Waves gets quite a lot of inspiration from Elden Ring.) I couldn't finish the game and i don't think i could recommend playing it except doing only the main story aspect of the game. Dungeons and enemies felt so much less novel. The longer I played, the more things lost their charm. A good time at first, and still worth trying on sale, but not everything it was hyped up to be.
