To me, the whole appeal of this game was that I could root out the evil and restore the world. But actually, you can't, you can't affect the world at all beyond your base area. A missed opportunity I'd say. Perhaps if I had friends I gamed with I would find something else to enjoy about it while playing with them but I don't.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tI love this game! If you want difficult bosses (for me anyway) you got it. If you want quests, there are. If you want to build and create, no problem. Difficulty to high? No problem, there's an adjustable setting! You want pretty settings? No problem!
I do wish the return beacons (you know, for those of us that die a lot...) were automatically added to you map when you discovered therm. I am currently using an online map to manually mark them on my game map. That is my only moan.\t\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tEnshrouded might not be perfect, but its the closest game I've played to it. this game has almost everything i want in many games genres all wrapped into one, so this is a personal perfection, almost every itch scratched, if i were a dog my leg would be kicking ;-).

I rarely write a review good or bad, and very rarely as long and lengthy as this one, but this game is an obsession, and its not even fully released.

Map
Huge open beautiful world, and by huge i mean huge, im aprox 170+ hrs into the game, and my map might be about 60% explored. its not empty miles with endless running from point to point just to have a huge map. Because of Lore!

Lore
Enshrouded is jam packed with Lore, if its your thing. If its your thing, read everything and get a story of why the world is the way it is, or don't, but its everywhere for the reading. I personally don't like meaningless rambling NPC chatter, I'm glad the developers chose the method of story telling, with a limited amount of NPC chatter.

Loot
At first appearance it seems like what loot? they don't give you anything, you earn it, but once you get some clothes and armor going and start exploring, its a never ending search and quest for bigger and greater pieces of armor and weapons, some you craft some you find as quests. there is armor and then there is the option for appearance which allows both armor and cosmetic only, so if i want to look like a rogue and wear heavy armor since i play a warrior, I can. it has a lot of armor, from magic user, rogue, warrior, to all the subclasses in-between, there is also a plethora of NPC type gear, so if I'm in the mood to look like a grave digger (actual set) i can.When i say a lot of armor, i dont mean, chain mail with 20 different names and stat buffs, all using the same visual set of chain mail, Diablo is famous for. no, im talking looking different, complete design difference, color, folds, spikes etc.
thats a big factor for me, I love looking at my armor, so I have a museum..... more in base building

Base Building
Its not just a Conan or Valheim base builder, i mention both games cause i liked building sprawling basses in both. the building blocks and building system has improved on both. What makes it different is, true terraforming, talking Minecraft ability of truly digging down, building up, and building on in or under. This is a big thing, and really lets your imagination explode, don't believe me, they have the option were you can visit other peoples worlds and see, their creations. A group have built two spectacular builds, Rivendale and the Shire, OMFG, im talking truly amazing, movie set quality, every bit as accurate as i could see based on the books, games and movies. I have a museum, nothing grand, but for me, was a labor of love, its packed with about 50 complete armor sets on mannequins and enough partial sets still in a chest waiting to be displayed. I've not started the weapons wing, but its just as impressive collection of weapons, though I only keep the weapons with the cool factor, i search for and collect all armor sets.

Crafting, I'm not sure I've seen a game with the amount of crafting materials, as Enshrouded, which can be awesome and overwhelming at the same time, they did it smartly each area presents new and or new alternatives of previous areas. So you collection of materials and ways to store and manage it grow with you as you reach out into new regions. I use the word alternatives, because most recipes give you the ability to use the likewise material in place of the original. Charcoal as an example, say charcoal, uses wood and dirt to make, I can use Bamboo from end game areas instead of wood from the area i started in, same with the dirt, i can use sand from the desert if i have more. I used Bamboo because i have a beautiful Bamboo farm, and it produces a lot of wood, yes i mentioned Farming, a giant garden with everything from food to Alchemical plants. A ranch, with animals I've befriended and stable, for their products or Kull for food.

I mentioned end game Bamboo, yet only explored 60% of the game, its a true open world, not a linier game claiming its open, by unscalable walls and mountains, though Shrouds do hinder your travels they do not stop you from circumventing you. This is were the terraforming is such a huge factor for me. A steep unclimbable mountain, i dig, and build a cliff side stair way, though you can not build unless your withing a flame alter area, which you can pop down almost anywhere you are limited by how many you can place which grows as you lvl. so i get my pick axe out and scaled a mountain and explored other areas, usually leading to me running for my life and laughing along the way, and collecting what I can.

Parkour, puzzles, hidden rooms, and gliders, very Zelda like experience, but in a darker world. for as big as the open world is, it doesn't lack in dungeons with different types, that are deep and vast. the Dungeon instances are a big and deep as the world is vast, some are puzzles and parkour others its a slaughter fest, and the Hollows well come leveled or bring friends.

Last comment, the difficulty options are nice, its not just an easy as intended normal or hard setting but you can go in and customize each area to your liking, make it easier then easy or harder then hard, adjust to were you find your happy. i dabbled with a side char, for a bit, i turned down the enemies str and hp, including bosses, but i turned up the amount that populate and turned up their agro, so while the enemies are weaker, getting attacked is more akin to diablo, instead of 3 wolves attacking its 7, or 10 skeletons its 50. it was fun, after release in a few months i might revisit that setting for a different exp, on a second play thru, if when i actually finish this char.

there is so much more, ive left a lot out, because its a fine line describing the game with out giving any spoilers. while many games have come before, nothing is truly new, its just they took the best of about 5 different genres and vastly improved on all of them, and seamlessly incorporated them all into one game and world. I have days i want to build, others explore, i can get my bloodlust adrenaline pumping action desires fulfilled, then farm, and craft.

the only negative, and it doesn't affect me, because my alien gaming laptop, but is a comment by others i cant refute, it is hardware demanding, as much as i want to recommend it to my own younger brother, he doesn't have the gaming rig i do, wives and kids come first.

\n\t\t\t\t\ti loved this game from the start, met a lovely willing and helpful fan base. the open world and story is both compelling to finish and sweet enough to just relax through. the visuals and design are unique and really has a place at becoming somewhat nostalgic when you see the game pop up after not playing it for a while. there is soo much freedom and soo much to love in this game. great to play solo or with friends. even if you arent all likeminded with game tactics and playing styles, this offers everyone a chance to go off on thier own while still helping out your team from a distance. its really something special tbh.
no issues so far, the occasional bug that was soo insignificant i dont remember what it was or did.but for how well it runs and looks in early access there is nothing to complain about.\t\t\t\t\t

Whether the shaders are pre-cached or not, it doesn't change anything. In 2026, games should not be requiring me to wait half an hour to play. This is unacceptable. \n\t\t\t\t\tThis review is a long time coming. I have owned Enshrouded for quite a while, but repeated attempts to get into it failed. I'd play the game for a few hours over the course of a couple of days and then just put it aside to go play other games. Which doesn't really merit a steam thumbs up recommendation, but I didn't dislike it enough to say thumbs down either.

Early Access being Early Access, the game has evolved between each of my attempts to get into it and here we are at a point where the game is finally in a state that I am enjoying it enough to keep playing.

With that said, my recommendation is only luke warm. The game is solid; the building in particular is phenomenal, the skill tree is quite engaging and the combat is finally at a state where I find it enjoyable due in large part to the recent addition of special attacks for each weapon type.

So why I only luke warm? Because there are still a few things that I am not a fan of. The shroud, in particular, is quite annoying to me. It's a visually gorgeous game, but then you have these massive shroud-covered areas where you cannot see a dam thing.

Fortunately there's a mod for that; I am using a mod that cuts the shroud effect, set to reduce the shroud thickness to 85% of its normal value. That 15% is a small value, but it's huge in terms of making the game better, imo.

Beyond that, Enshrouded is a fairly typical action rpg with a lot to explore and discover, decent enough gear itemization, a gem system for upgrading said gear, an engaging skill tree with a good variety of different builds that are viable and one of the best build/construction systems I have ever engaged with. Worth a purchase at this point, particularly given that the 1.0 release is coming very soon and the price is going to go up.\t\t\t\t\t

Enshrouded doesn't just look beautiful -- it pulls us in so deep we forget the real world exists. The atmosphere, the attention to detail that goes into every element of the game, the way it balances risk vs reward and keeps you game play looping for that next "hurrah" moment... we've never experience IMMERSION like this.

It actually has made such an impression on us we decided to start a YouTube Channel around Enshrouded gameplay and building. If you're looking for a game that stays with you and makes a lasting impression, this is it. Is it perfect? Of course not, nothing is. However, the developers have a strong track record over the past 2 years of actually listening to their community and supporters and implementing community feedback to constantly polish what is already a phenomenal game.

Want to explore a massive, nearly never-ending, world with dedicated biomes, soundtracks, enemies, etc? Check
Want to mine, chop, rake, cook, fish, farm, collect, craft then hoard it all at your base? Check

Want to go questing and 100% the many different tasks and challenges? Check
Want to boss fight or mob? Check

I'm sure we are missing something here because the game is overall so massive while still maintaining a cohesive experience that you (the player) get to control the pace of. If you're not playing Enshrouded and you like any of the above, you're missing the boat.

After 18 hours, 12 achievements, some exploration, combat, building, crafting, cleansing a well, and puzzling my way to the top of a tower, I feel like I've seen it all. \n\t\t\t\t\tWhat can i say, since day 1 of EA i liked the exploration of this game, building in a voxel world, like minecraft, is better imo than any other survival building crafting game that i bought.

The game has flaws, combat is not perfect, far from it, but its enjoyable, dont expect the depth of Elden Ring, but it got better with the combat update, will be improved further on release.

Settings are your friend here, i dont like the fishing, i set it to very easy, taming animals the same, since i prefer harder combat i put twice as many enemies and they attack all at once too, you can adjust weather, time of day and night, XP gain for combat, mining and exploration, etc.

Its a very good game, i had 2 CTDs 2 years ago when the EA started, thats it, game just got more stable and my potato PC has good FPS, although the settings are balanced for it, and the devs made a water update on a voxel game that barely made a dent on my performance after they tweaked it a little bit.

All in all its a solid survival open world game, on release it will get end game content, more bosses, better combat and better performance on low end machines, since the game has already sold a bunch on PC and it will be released on consoles im betting the devs have a DLC or 2 lined up for it.

Lets hope they add modding tools too, game can only get better with a good modding community.\t\t\t\t\t

After suffering respiratory collapse in Valheim and developing severe poultry induced schizophrenia in R.E.P.O I bring you Enshrouded (42.3 hours on record) This Early Access purgatory features one of the most advanced voxel building systems on the market, which tragically triggered my professional deformation as a former real estate agent.

Let me be professionally clear: the zoning laws in this game are an absolute joke. You are given the tools to build a magnificent, brick by brick architectural masterpiece, but the developers force you to construct it directly above the "Shroud" a swirling, highly toxic, metaphysical cancer that dissolves human lungs in four minutes.

Do you know how hard it is to sell this kind of property? I have to mentally pitch these ruins to imaginary clients just to cope with the gameplay. "Welcome to this charming, rustic fixer upper! It boasts an open concept floor plan, zero neighbors, and is situated in a highly lucrative, whisper quiet neighborhood featuring a panoramic view of absolute, agonizing death. Please do not open the basement door, sir, or the radioactive fog will consume your physical form. But just think of the property tax savings!" From a market value perspective, building a homestead here is financial and literal suicide.

Then, there is the sociological anomaly known as my friend Denis. Denis initially refused to play this game because there was no water. He boycotted the entire Early Access title over a lack of H2O. So, the developers eventually added water. Denis logged in, stared at the newly implemented water, and immediately complained that the game "lacks the atmosphere of Valheim."

Of course it lacks the atmosphere of Valheim, Denis! Enshrouded actually has a living world, quests, and things to do. Valheim’s "atmosphere" consists of standing perfectly still in an empty, depressing Swedish forest, wheezing from asthma, waiting for your own roof to cave in and crush your skull. But Denis is a connoisseur of misery. If a game doesn't actively make him want to uninstall it, it simply isn't good enough for him.

But who am I to judge Denis? I am a severely damaged man with over 18,000 combined hours of cognitive decay across my Steam library. I voluntarily torture myself on a daily basis. My dog left me, my friends use me as human bait, and I am currently evaluating the real estate market of a magical radioactive crater.

10/10. A masterpiece of catastrophic urban planning and Early Access suffering. The trilogy is complete, and so is my descent into madness.\t\t\t\t\t

It's a little weaker on the survival side Ie: You don't necessarily get hungry or thirsty but food and drink and rest can provide you with decent buffs but won't kill you if you don't eat or rest, I think this games real bread and butter is the combat, skill tree, and exploration. Also the building of bases. it's like a more polished version of Valheim if i were to compare it to anything. I will say that the beginning of the game, be prepared to grind some materials before you go out and explore for the best exploring experience, I'd focus on doing everything you can for the first character you unlock then going and doing quest but thats just me, play how ever you want. I haven't gotten super far into the game so this is just kinda my opening take on the game, so far it's a solid 8.5/10 for me. Sometimes the grind is a little excessive lol\t\t\t\t\t

However I feel as though the crafting is a little over-engineered in terms of how to actually access the build feature.
Personal crafting and the crafting benches themselves are all fine. What I find frustrating is that in order to build using doors, walls etc., you need to switch too the hammer.. and then press a bind in order to open the building menu. Please for the love of god choose one or the other. Either let me press the bind in order to build while within range of the Flame Alter OR let me switch to the hammer and just start building without pressing a bind. Don't make people jump through both of these hoops in order to build. The pressing of a bind when I've already switched to the hammer seems redundant and unnecessary. Very clunky and sluggish.

\n\t\t\t\t\tThere is a phenomenal game hidden here, however the developers insist on making it unplayable, and unenjoyable with terrible balance, non telegraphed enemy abilites, sliding animations that don't match damage triggers, and of course, a persistent visual fog masqureading as a gaming mechanic. If over half the game is in fog, and with simple upgrades the death timer is insignificant, then why have this terrible migraine inducing visual effect ?\t\t\t\t\t
