\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tWhen I found out that this game was the spiritual successor to The Painscreek Killings I was so excited to try it! I love detective/mystery games that ask you to solve a case using only your own logic and its a genre that is seriously underdeveloped.
That said, I found this game pretty disappointing. You are not able to freely roam each scene and instead are limited to specific rooms (you cannot unlock anything with keys or codes), only the items that are visible within each room, and only the visible items that you can left click to inspect. You cannot open any drawers, doors, computers, phones etc. beyond that. There are no "if you notice this in the background it may help you, even if it's not necessary for solving" clues and the clues you are given often come in the form of journals, sticky notes, phone messages, or other written sources (aka you only have a few opportunities to notice details like the caliber of a bullet or residue in a glass). On it's own I may not have minded that lack of full exploration, but solving the scenarios with the clues you are given involves a LOT of assuming and jumping to conclusions about what happened, which defeats the purpose of the genre. There were many times where I found myself wondering if there was something that I had missed because the complete set of clues did not feel like they provided enough information to answer the questions definitively. This was especially disappointing because there absolutely WERE a few answers that give you a sense of accomplishment when you figured them out because the clues were there if you made note of them (trying to be as spoiler free as possible, but the question about the tattoo comes to mind).
Compare that with TPK where you are given all the information you need in both written documents and visual clues (including plenty of misdirects and red herrings) so long as you pay attention and decide what's important to make the proper connections between all of the details.
While I can't say that I had a horrible time playing, I don't know if I would recommend this game over any others in the detective category or even over others by the same creators.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Even simple things like finger prints, a measuring tape, etc, would make the game 100% better. I feel like the best you can ever do is an absolute guess.
