Shortly before the end of the game, there is a second weapon, but barely anymore fights left to actually use it in.

This game does it perfectly, with old-school map exploration and challenging combat. The combat itself is really well thought out with both beautiful and intuitive animations. I think everyone will find something to love about this game, and I truly can't recommend it enough.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Is it a Metroidvania? I'm skeptical. The game plays like one, but it is incredibly linear with no branching paths and only one route to progress. If you struggle on that route, you have no mechanism to find power ups or alternative progression. I played through until I got to a boss that I struggled with a bit and ended up failing on the first many attempts. I tried to backtrack to find a different direction and quickly realized that I had unlocked every path and gotten every power up available to me already. I had no mechanism to get stronger and no other options but to beat my head against the boss. I didn't feel like doing that.
So the combat is good, the movement is good, but I don't want to play any more. The main reason is that every enemy is about 33% too tanky for it to feel good, meaning that all of my actions feel like I'm slapping them with a wet noodle.
The story also looked like it was going to be somewhat compelling at the start, but then once you're past the tutorial you are by yourself in underground catacombs for three hours with no progression. I get the feeling that Divinum was trying to copy Hollow Knight a bit too much, then tacked on an unrelated story at the end of development. It doesn't really work. Case in point, when the main character is about to be left behind to fight some zombies, she throws a tantrum. When encountering imperials who want to desecrate her religious sites, she fights back. But when meets one of the literal gods of the story, she says nothing. Literally nothing, she just takes it in stride and keeps walking. I feel like she started as a silent protagonist and then got story bolted on at the end. Either way, the story is out of whack with the game pacing and the characters do not fit the world they've been put in.

While challenging at points and fun it is fair to say that it's more akin to "Baby's first Metroidvania" in comparison to some more robust games in the genre that offer deeper combat and platforming options and shorter as well, which may be a good or bad thing depending on the gamer as it's more than possible to beat the game within 6 to 12 hours if you're not a completionist who searches every nook and cranny like myself. I imagine this game would run like butter on most handhelds btw as it's not too demanding.

In short, the game isn’t as hardcore, but I can already tell that the pros are going to be pulling off some absolutely insane combos. There are tons of moves available to the protagonist.
The rune system is a really cool idea. I actually found my first rune completely by accident in a secret passage. There are all kinds of passive abilities, and you can combine runes too. It’s a shame you can’t make Rune Words like in Diablo 2. Although maybe you can? I just haven’t figured it out yet. Dev, add Rune Words!
There’s also a reference to Mel Gibson’s Apocalypto: when you leave the village and see the ships in the background, I immediately remembered the ending of the movie.

Fast travel is unlocked almost instantly. I really enjoyed the time trials/guantlets in this game. The runes were pretty diverse and let you play the way you want to. Going to end up in my B tier. During the past year, I've played a ton of Metroidvania games that have caught my eye because of either art style, gameplay videos or plot after finishing the games from the Castlevania Dominus Collection.
This game, albeit short if you know what you're doing, has probably the most dynamic gameplay of the bunch I've played because it incorporates Hack n' Slash mechanics in its combat. Performing combos on enemies so they get staggered and then proceed to juggle them until they die is incredibly satisfying to pull off. Finished it in about 7 or so hours due to the parkour challenges and spent the next 5 hours looking for the missing runes, mana shards and life orbs I missed and farming Sanctite in the Warden's Crucible.
The story is simple, very "to the point" and serves its intended purpose. Ending is a bit abrupt, though.
Art style, level design, enemy variety and boss fights are really good especially one boss with moveset shifts.
The one only gripe with the game is that there's almost no music. Not a dealbreaker at all but I love when this kind of games pull out bangers from their sleeves. Hopefully more music is added to most of the areas so at least they get a proper theme going on in the future.
100% recommended for people that enjoy this kind of games.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tDivinum is a fun game with enjoyable combat and exploration, but I cannot in good faith recommend it just due to how short it is, and how abrupt the ending is. playing at a casual pace, you'll finish the game in about 4 hours, if that much. the ending is anticlimactic and boring. it doesn't really have any replay value, so after you beat the game all that's left is to explore the rest of the map to 100%, which shouldn't take more than 2 hours even without a guide. it's far too short for the price, but if it's on sale for like $5 then sure, it's a fun enough time.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
