My only real issue is the story.
It's so convoluted and you spend dozens of hours grinding character storylines and prophecies. If you don't have the luxury to go in completely blind, you'll probably end up looking up guides because some prophecies require talking to specific characters in a specific order. That makes it very easy to accidentally spoil yourself, so by the time you reach the epilogue, it has the emotional impact of a wet noodle.
Another problem is that the "true" ending is locked behind an excessive amount of grinding. The game itself isn't that long. Its playtime is artificially extended by making you farm items and exhaust dialogue.
By the time I finally unlocked the real ending, I was completely burned out. Instead of feeling motivated to experiment with builds or push higher Fear like I did in Hades 1, I just wanted to stop playing. The ending felt more like relief than a reward.
And my biggest problem is the context of the normal ending, Chronos. The fact that he suddenly becomes good after being bombarded with false memories from an alternate timeline feels like a rushed ending to his story and a plot device pulled out of thin air. The villain who literally kidnapped and imprisoned half of your family members in time and ate his own children is suddenly a kind and loving grandfather. The game doesn't do nearly enough to earn his redemption. At the end the phrase "Death to Chronos" lost it's meaning completely.

Writing this is hard. Hades 2, sadly, just isn’t as enthralling as the first game. I think this is by no means the devs fault. The game is pretty fun and they made a lot of good changes and tweaks to the original (2 choices for runs for diversity, cool new weapons and bosses, improved design for gods and companions, cute little camp mechanics, etc.). Most of the issues stem from the main plot. Also this might be a case where overshadowing the original is nigh impossible.
Playing through the first one, I felt more compelled to root for Zagreus, and getting closer to his goal every run felt like not only a personal victory, but a victory for him too. Here I just don’t feel it, the story and Melinoe’s impact on the world feels superficial. Yeah Chronos has usurped power and took control of Hades, but killing him doesn’t feel like I’m resolving anything. The context given for everything is just background noise compared to the more straightforward, yet all-round solid storyline of the original. The second game, script and quest-wise, just feels lacking. It’s as if the writers bit off more than they could chew. And to me it felt underwhelming when I just started skipping dialogues and interactions because, bluntly, they weren’t really driving the story forward. At the end I just didn’t have the drive to go through the annoying-ass Chronos fight for the kajillionth time or the incredibly cheesy Charybdis/Eris combo at the end of the Rift of Thessaly.
Most of this is probably due to the time constraints put on the team and the early access model. Some of it might be due to the higher expectations put on the game. I’m not exactly sure. All I can say is that if I was given a choice to play one or the other, I’d choose the first one in a heartbeat.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

If you've played the first Hades and enjoyed it, it's likely you'll also like this game as it does very little to experiment with the formula and moreso focuses on elevating the current ingredients of the Hades dish. More content variety. Even better visuals with some of the most memorable character designs I've ever seen in an indie game.

I burned myself out because I did it pretty quick, but the game is so good at staying fresh and I go back to it sometimes. Hades 2 was scary at first because I thought the first game was just complex enough to be easy to pick up but engaging to master. So far all the additions keep that feeling and add layers that are easy to digest but offer so much more to the game. The gameplay is top-notch, as are the voice acting, story, characters, and pretty much everything else. It’s simply a ton of fun (more fun than most AAA titles) and I can highly recommend it.

Just take what was good in the first game and expend upon it. More bosses, multiples routes, more weapons, more music, more boons.
Most weapons feel good to use, and each weapon has at least one aspect that feels very good, even if it's not always the default one (but then again, weapon feel is subjective).
And I mean, the game always feels hard without being unfair, still as tense and rewarding as the first one.
However, it can get annoying if you don't get some of the random events considering how many there are (if you want do to the platinum at least). Other than that, I don't have a lot of flaws that come to mind right now.
The ending was changed significantly, and I honestly think it now fits a lot more with the spirit of the game and puts Melinoe as the central character she was meant to be.
If you liked the first one, go ahead and play it, you won't be disappointed.

I've in fact even bought Pyre, a game from them that isn't as popular as every other title. Hades 2 is a great iteration to the first game, in fact it reminds me of the games when I was a kid, easy to pick up but hard to master. I spent 150 hours on Hades in early access and didn't want to play the full game because I had already consumed the content and story. Luckily I didn't with Hades 2 and it's been a blast. The story lines are great, the in-game achievements are so well designed that you never feel like the game's getting boring. Learning Typhon's moveset wasn't tricky but more bullethell and liked the fight with Chronos much better. I'm yet to unlock better versions with the Vow of rivals, but seeing I've unlocked Hecate's upgraded version alone has me excited to meet all the other guardians on Vow of Rivals. Pay attention to the dialogue, it's very easy to skip them and lose any idea how to complete a few prophecies. The dialogues literally give you the answer to every prophecy, you just have to pay attention.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The Good
- This game might be one of my favorite SEQUELS specifically. There is so much in terms of narrative, characters and world-building that add to, expand on, or continue off of Hades 1, and in a very natural way, while still giving Hades 2 its own unique identity and personality
- The way the game slowly introduces new mechanics, characters and more, kept me giddy like a child for a solid 25hrs, maybe more, pointing out characters or things related to Hades 1
- WHAT DO YOU MEAN TWO DIFFERENT PATHS
- There's way too much in terms of combat variation, arcana, weapons, boons etc. Is literally Hades 1 but more, and this doesn't even mention the extra dimension of spells and Magick. Combat flows just as well as Hades 1, while being much more
- Characters and dialogue are so incredibly dynamic, expressive and expansive, that it's kinda wild. Almost every character has something to say about the current point of the narrative, other characters, your weapons, boons and even some other minute details. Even at the end of my 80+ hrs of gameplay, I still catch more new dialogues than repeated ones
- The characters themselves + their voice acting are top notch, every one of them have such distinct stories and personalities, they make me almost never skip dialogue, even after many many hours. Their portraits are also all so gorgeous, similar to Hades 1, but improved and more alive via simple yet effective animations
- Darren Korb cooked with the music and soundtrack AS ALWAYS
The Bad
- Around the endgame for quests and dialogue, it may be quite hard to get some specific quests to progress, die to certain other dialogue having priorities over the ones you need to progress, not to mention you only getting one dialogue per run from a character, and you don't even have a gurantee to meet certain characters on each run
- I would say, similar to Hades 1, the game provides so many power upgrades, that completing runs is overall easier than most other roguelikes/roguelites, like easily going undefeated for many, many runs. I personally don't mind it, but many people may find it too baby mode. You CAN increase the difficulty level quickly, but the game incentivises you to increase it at a much slower pace
- Similar issue with Hades 1, because the characters, narrative and dialogue are so endearing and interesting, the game started to slowly "feel more dead" when characters started to repeat dialogue, and had no more story to comment on. The gameplay was still incredible, though the strong immersion slowly starts to fade
The Random
- I know there was a huge narrative debacle regarding the game's ending, glad it was eventually sorted out
