I've noticed this trend that sequels often fall short of the original at times. And this is one of those cases. Yet it doesn't mean the game is bad. It's enjoyable, and the quality of life is 100% fine. I'd say play Hades before this, or wait for it on a discount sale. But it won't be a waste of money\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I love the way those myths are incorporated into the game, which makes me certain others can test their knowledge by playing the game or memorize the myths if it was a struggle in the past. The story is hooking you since the very beginning that -- for me -- was the main reason to play! I absolutely adore roguelikes, but this one is the best for the plot AND gameplay. You won't regret it, as long as you read it.

The gameplay though is absolutely fantastic and you won't get bored of it. Near unlimited builds that you can do and the fluidity of combat keeps you going.

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tGameplay wise this game is an obvious improvement to the first one. There's so much content: so many bosses, two types of 'runs', trials, a bit of gardening. Really enjoyed progressing through these things. The trials were super fun, and apart from the last 2 greater chaos trials it's a shame they weren't more challenging. They felt like just small tutorials to use your new weapon, which is fine I guess. That's all the good stuff. Which was really, really good.
Then I set out to 100% the game, like I did with the first game. I absolutely despised the amount of "burn runs" (start a run and immediately die) I had to do to progress the dialogue to unlock quests. Even after finishing most of the game and always talking to every NPC, I probably did over 50 burn runs and over 20 useless runs to completion that didn't give me any progression, just to try and unlock the next dialogue in some obscure quest. It feels really dumb and really random. Sometimes I had to talk to an NPC, which gave me one line of stock dialogue which I apparently had to exhaust 3 times (after 3 burn runs) before being able to actually pick up a quest I wanted to do. Just pure torture. Really don't understand the mindset behind this, other than "it will make people play more runs?".
Other than that, gameplay wise this is an absolutely amazing game. I love almost every weapon, and the alternative versions of each weapon often add something unique that change up your strategy during a run. I burned myself out because I did it pretty quick, but the game is so good at staying fresh and I go back to it sometimes. Hades 2 was scary at first because I thought the first game was just complex enough to be easy to pick up but engaging to master. So far all the additions keep that feeling and add layers that are easy to digest but offer so much more to the game. The main story 8/10 it feels short
The art style is always 10/10 for me.
Tho I wish we can change some pictures of characters because i dont like the new hermes look.
The voice acting 7/10
Polyphemus - just sounds like asterius.
Nyx voice - sounds really blurry compare to the first game.
Chaos - sometimes his voice is also blurry.
The music is 10/10
I want to focus more on the gameplay feedback because from story to music everything is great.
1. The Arcana Cards(Mirror Of Night in hades1)
This feels very limiting. Most of the time you wouldn't select the enchantress, charon and champions cards. So basically useless options.
The user interface also sucks, you cannot see all of your card skin on the right because it's being block by the words and description of the arcana.
You also have to replace it every time each time you want to change weapons and aspects. They could attach it to the weapon instead.
2. Ω moves(Omega moves/Charge Attack)
This is one thing I dislike it feels very slow you are required to charge attack no matter what weapons you use. Enemy will hit you before you finish charging or your charge attack will miss anyway because the enemy already moved after you release your attack. Auto aim feels terrible, Lim and Oros weapon has no range indicator.
3. Destroying bullets/parrying bullets.
You can no longer destroy enemy bullets which sucks because you have to do the Ω omega charge attack most of the time and now you have to catch the enemy bullets.
4. Weapons and boons most of them does not synergize well, like apollo double attack but it doesnt trigger on omega moves, range weapon demands closer attack range with Aphrodite boons. Hera boons feels underwhelming. Additionally dedalus upgrade feels very limited and weaker. overall boons feels much weaker if youre having multiple gods they don't feel compatible with each other.
Combination of upgrade feels repetitive. Dedalus has back stab upgrade, Apollo have back stab upgrade, weapon has backstab stats. Then the final boss doesnt have a back, what a joke upgrade. Arcana upgrade is also similar to some boons upgrade it doesn't feel unique just a stronger approach.
Then you have to suffer with Prime Mana upgrade which reduce your base mana. its an upgrade why do you have to sacrifice your mana.
5. Bosses have invulnerability moment to attack which is not fun for me.
6. The game feels like it's designed for the hardcore gamers the new weapons aspect feels difficult to use.
7. You can still clear runs normally and overpower opponents but
the combat feels lesser hack and slash. You'll have to dodge most of the time they removed the fun gameplay of brute force attacking.
Dashing feels sloppy.
8. Main gameplay, chronos stone and hypnos bed is all the same. The game is already repetition no need to add more mini game with same gameplay.
9. Hex (Call on Hades 1)
Hex sheep - useless on boss battle because you cant hex bosses.
Hex heal - pretty much useless with the amount of ways to regen in the game.
Hex Beam ray - leaves you expose to enemies
Hex Meteor Blast. doesnt extend damage to the bosses you have to time it well.
Hex dark form - No damage.
All hex are pretty much weak imo.
10. Second map consumes at least 45 mins to clear. If you only have 2 hours to play you need to a lot more time.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tI mean... I guess... I have to compare it to Hades which I've 100%'d because everyone else has...GEE WILLICKERS. I'm going to try not to do that. I really love Supergiant Games. I don't think they have ever released a terrible game in their existence. Most of their games are easily 9-10/10.
And this game is no different. It's definitely more difficult than the first game. I actually enjoyed this though. The art was cool, still great. But wasn't a fan of all the character's designs. The new characters were cool though. I feel the story was pretty good. The ending wasn't the greatest or anything but I don't think it deserves the criticisms it is receiving. There's really a bunch of ending if you think about it. Each side character has an ending of sort once you complete their storylines.
The combat issue isn't really a thing. You're kind of forced to get nectars and a lot of them so you can unlock the keepsakes. This requires a good amount of runs. If you don't do this making a build will feel almost impossible. Another difficulty aspect I don't mind. It's a roguelike I knew what I was getting into as I was purchasing the game. Once you have done enough runs and unlocked Weapon aspects, arcana, and the keepsakes, acquiring a build is very easy. You pick the weapon, and the keepsake of the God/Goddess you want to start with, and switch out the keepsake every level to ensure a greater success in that build coming to fruition. There's even an arcana that gives you 8 resets. So it's really not rocket science here. You just have to be patient. And sometimes you do not get EVERY boon for the build, but sometimes you end up with some pretty wild and random stuff that still pairs really well. It won't cripple you if you do not get EVERY single boon for the build.
There's a bunch of different areas that can be unlocked. So if it's ever getting boring for you, that will all change. Just wake up Hypnos, do enough stuff for Chaos, and unlock the Oath of the Unseen. And it's a whole new experience and way more difficult than the base game. Again, totally fine with this.
The combat was cool. I have absolutely no issues with the combat. They tried something different than the first game and in my opinion it works out. You can't just button mash the hell out of the controller now and win like you could in the first game. You actually have to put some thought into how you will attack, where and when you will dash and Omega at. Plus you have to take into account which enemies you are actually fighting, their attacks, movement, and speed. Even sometimes you have to rely on the level for blocking. Pretty much you can't be a mindless ape while fighting. A-Ok with me.
There's some cool throwbacks to the first game. I won't mention them, but if you make it far enough and played Hades you will know them all. The personalities of the characters were done really well. I won't lie and say the story was immaculate or anything, but I didn't think it was terrible or anything. I still felt fulfilled beating the main story and able to continue playing after. It was a really cool mechanic to allow you to continue playing. At first I thought "how are they going to pull this off?" But it was really awesome.
The negative reviews are pretty much just stating that the game is different from their holy grail "Hades" and because it's literally not a carbon copy of the first game with a new skin they hate it. Now saying that I thought Hades deserved to win GOTY when it released. I did not feel that about Hades II, but it's a very solid 9.9/10. I've had an amazing time in my almost 80 hours. Don't let the naysayers nitpicking every minute semantic drive you away from trying a challenging game with different mechanics. It's totally worth the price. At 77 hours I've 50%'d the game. So I will definitely get my moneys worth if it takes around 160 hours to 100% the game. But let's be honest I already got it in 77 hours. And the fact that I still continue to want to play it is a plus.

theres SO MUCH GAME here too, I was really surprised by just how many challenges they packed into this,, and so many ways to push yourself and try new play styles. andI loved all the characters, the writing is top notch as expected
there was only one weapon I didn't really enjoy using, but there's lots of other great options so I was never bothered by it,, my only other issue is that sometimes I got so into the gameplay that i wanted to skip the chats with the characters, but that's not even a bad thing I think?? although I felt terrible even considering skipping out on some of the writing + voice acting
at the end of the day i got WAY more into this game than the first one, and that's in equal parts due to the amazing moment-to-moment gameplay, the near-perfect buildcrafting in each run, and CHRONOS my favorite guy <3
supergiants projects deserve to go down in history, this is an ENTHUSIASTIC double thumbs up from me, its great for sickos and normal people, i recommend hades 2 to anyone and everyone\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t
