\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tSo far this game has been great (about to start my 4th year in game), its a really good blend between a traditional city builder and a RPG game. So far I haven't played the campaign mode, just building my village in the Oxbow region, but even in the Oxbow region, you still have some quests to complete - all optional unless you want to unlock fast travel to your village. While most of the quests in the Oxbow are simple, the dialog for the quests can be quite amusing.
Pros:
- Game seems to be generally bug free (for me, anyway). Had a couple game crashes, but its likely a system issue as I have that happen with other games too. 1 time the fertilizer I made disappeared, but other than that the only bug I encountered was my settlers kind of floating to their destination rather than walking.
- Managing settlers, buildings, and livestock is very straight forward.
- Upgrading and/or moving building is easy
- Plenty of exterior aesthetics to make your village really look like a true medieval village
- Plenty of options to change the difficulty of the game, from the resources NPCs need to XP gains, enemy/animal damage and HP to whether or not you even need to eat/drink and more
- Being able to change how many days are in a season gives you plenty of time to do building and quests in between seasons; and after like 3 days you can just skip to the next season if you want.
Cons:
- The stats you can gain are somewhat limited. There's not much you can do to increase stats relating to combat, and all level caps are fairly limited as it is. Having stats for particular weapon types would be great, as would just having more levels to earn for the stats that are already in the game.
- By default the game limits the amount of buildings to 70. While this might seem reasonable, each orchard and field for crops counts as a building, if you don't start your settlement near larger areas of open land, you can easily reach that limit. The game does allow for you to increase the amount of buildings allowed, but strongly advises against it.
- Interior decorations are a joke
- Exterior decorations of the buildings themselves are lacking, especially when it comes to buildings that aren't homes
- Maybe I just haven't progressed far enough, but when you unlock your village sign, it only allows fast travel TO your village from a game village - but you cannot travel FROM your village to others. At this point it almost just seems better to buy a donkey or horse for travel.
- Combat is boring, and with the heat/cold elements in the game, its kind of impossible to run around with armor during the summer unless you take a bunch of potions and booze to help with that. Even then, its generally boring.
All in all, this game is excellent if you enjoy city-builders in this era (such as manor lords) but want that RPG element. It feels quite immersive, the soundtrack is enjoyable (though a bit more diversity in it would be nice), all the building is fun, and the quests dialog offsets the simplicity of most quests. 8.5/10

I can't get enough of watching my town grow and bringing new souls to it to make more new souls. The only thing limiting in this game is my hardware! I went 21 years on my first play-through and I am now at 9 years with my second.
Things the devs should to consider to maybe make the game even better: 1. The rock collected in mines could be dropped and fade away after a year to clean out the mines a bit. 2. The children need interactive stuff like the adults...sandboxes, outdoor playground type stuff. 3. The insides of the houses need placed furniture to sit down and enjoy them a bit more, we can place it outside but not in the houses. 4. If the number of houses is limited...same sex roommate situations should be allowed. 5. The young person held by the bandits should be able to come live with you if you have a 4 bedroom seeing how we can't have a second child. 6. THE NAMES FOR ALL VILLAGERS SHOULD BE EDITABLE!!! They suck...some I can't even pronounce! All the animals can be renamed and named, NPC that are recruited should have the same option. 7. Would be nice to see people (NPCs) on the roads and have them come through your town and interact with maybe your shopkeepers and tavern. Would be really awesome if they had a story to tell. 8. I think the new update coming will eliminate the other huge issue...too much land is to sloped and pitched to build many constructs on. More to do with the crown would be nice also. 9. A few more different quests on the quest board would be nice (not the same ones all the time). 10. A little more interaction with your wife and child would be nice besides just "what are you thinking" and "here's a little something". 11. Maybe some shananigans at the tavern...drinking that berry wine and mead. 12. More development levels and traits in solo play for main character (I am at 9 years and I have topped out just about all of them). These are mostly just ideas but some things that would definitely make the game a bit more fun!
AGAIN! THIS GAME IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME IN EVERYWAY AND A JOY TO PLAY. I find it actually therapuetic and mentally calming to fertilize my fields and them pick and scythe the crops my labor has produced. Going out and finding new folks to fill my newly established homes and the NPC talk as I stroll through my town is outright hilarious at times. Seeing the wee little ones walking through my streets and rattling their little music makers and growing to small children and adolescence. Riding my mule through safe country and filling her up with the harvested meat and furs I have so diligently collected with my trusty crossbow and bolts! Balancing my workers, food intake, and work assignments and my selling levels to make sure it is a well oiled machine and taking so much burden off my shoulders!
I am 60 years old and have been playing mostly only the best RPG's and video games since pong rattled on black & white & green TV sets and computers...this is definitely one of my top 5 all time games I have ever played! Thank you for hours of playtime and the music score sent from heaven! I have not muted it once! Just lovely! I am a fan and as long as this is a Steam game I will replay it over and over...I am currently coming up with my own endgame...but it may not end and again if it does it will only be because my physical machine can not operate it anymore. I am a 20 year US veteran with limited budget so Win 10 and an outdated Nvidia is all I got to keep it going...we are grinding away! My 21 year campaign ended because my computer couldn't handle it anymore and coming up with a good way to keep it going didn't make sense. But truly, what love and fun! THANK YOU...going back in...I have RYE to harvest! A simple sweet and fun game! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Has gotten better and better with time.. it's not perfect but i've built a couple of mega villages and some others with friends. I can confidently say the 850+ hours i've put into this have been mostly relaxing with only slight agitation and disbelief like getting leather off of a deer? makes no sense considering the production chains associated with berries for example XD that said i have gotten over these weird aberrations long ago.
If you have an interest in survival rpgs and the medieval then i would recommend...you can be creative and manage a large settlement (which gets to be a job in itself!) or you can keep a small estate and build a dynasty! The choice is yours but the experience is not particularly limiting, nor is it massively open...it's just right imo and i wish you luck on the journey of making your mark in this medieval world!\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

After a few in-game years, it starts feeling more like a full management game than an open-world survival experience. You end up spending most of your time managing your village rather than exploring or completing quests.
Overall, it's not a bad game, but I really wish the developers gave it more love. More content, new mechanics, maybe a few extra maps, and some bug fixes would be fairly appreciated. Honestly the thing that surprised me (in a good way) was the writing, some of the dialogue is fantastically funny or just generally well done. My one nitpick would be there is no standardized 'move stuff' button, there's like 5 different buttons to transfer items, drop items etc and Im constantly hitting the wrong ones.

The systems that are there seem way to simple, the quality in gameplay and visuals is poor, on the level just beyond a school project IMO and the single player map first 4h experience is running around skipping quest text (I read the first bits but its not interesting). Maybe if it started with finding a spot for and making a simple village it would have been enjoyable enough but the poor graphics with poor performance (I easily get 140 fps in much better looking games like KCD to give a nature rich example so its not my PC) and the basic moment to moment gameplay being quite dull, made me stop and hope I could still refund it after 4h. Don't want to risk 15$ for a game that likely wont get any better.

I've seen characters sitting on top of one another, and one night I couldn't get into my house because my son's feet were sticking through the door and blocking the entrance! Fortunately, these bugs are more amusing than game-breaking. The game also includes a bit of fourth-wall breaking, along with references to other popular games and TV shows that you can discover while chatting with the townsfolk.
I recommend building houses, assigning essential jobs, and constructing storage buildings as early as possible to attract new settlers. The more people you have, the less micromanaging you'll need to do, allowing you to focus on expanding your settlement and earning more money.
The side quests are especially valuable early in the game because they help increase your Diplomacy skill and Dynasty Reputation. After that, I recommend focusing on the main story quests and the King's Challenges to make the most meaningful progress.

Building your settlement is satisfying, and managing your village is fun without becoming overwhelming. Watching your little community grow over time is rewarding.

Calling dynasty is a bit much though my offspring is still in nappies and I have built my village and have enough money to pay the tax for the next 100 years, I also earn double my tax every day so now I have a constant supply of resources but no where to sell or use them by the time my boy reaches 18 I will just have millions of gold and tons of resources a village of warehouses it really needs something to change to make it a dynasty even running round every town selling stuff every season I can not sell enough and its gets boring. One of the original games to popularize this style of "Dynasty" gameplay, Medieval Dynasty has inspired plenty of copy over the years. Judging by their reviews, though, it's safe to say that none of them have managed to beat the original. After 30 hours of playtime in just two weeks, I think I've spent enough time with it to leave a proper review.
Looking at it now, I couldn't have been more wrong.
I first tried the game on the Xbox Game Pass but was met with disappointment when my hardware obviously couldn't handle it at the time. So, fair warning: you'll want a reasonably capable PC with decent hardware if you want to enjoy the game at its best.
When I finally bought it, I was immediately hooked.
It took quite a bit of a bit of a challenge on handling the learning curve considering how you're immediately plunged into the open world with no hand-holding at all. It's basically:
"Go out there and start grinding, you parentless peasant."
and I kid you not, it's one of the most intimidating feelings ever. But I took joy in that learning process, gave it my patience and time, without googling any tips like "How to build the Roman Empire in one day in Medieval Dynasty." It took me around 4.5 hours to really understand what I was doing, and as time went on I slowly felt the grind getting worse, but every restart taught me something new. What initially took me two hours eventually took only one, and by my third attempt I had learned from my mistakes enough to build a self-sufficient village that could run itself without constant babysitting.
This is only based on the first map, and I heard that it only gets better once you're ready to start playing the "seasoned player" map. That's more than enough motivation for me to keep getting better at micro managing my lowly peasants
Overall, I believe this game, whoever is reading this, deserves your chance. Especially if you like a mix of RPG, survival, and micro-management simulation with just enough building mechanics to make your creativity work, though it's best not to overthink it. Just don't go into it expecting to recreate a historically accurate medieval metropolis overnight. Take your time, embrace the learning curve, and let your village grow one step at a time.

I bought this game thinking I'd be a rugged medieval hunter. Instead, I'm the HR department, city planner, carpenter, therapist, farmer, wildlife control officer, and the only person in the kingdom capable of cutting down a tree.
Every season starts the same:
"I'm just going to gather a little wood."
Three hours later I've accidentally built an entire industrial district, reorganized my villagers' jobs for the fifth time, and somehow still don't have enough sticks. The villagers are incredible. They'll happily produce 4,000 cabbages a year, but if you forget to assign someone to collect firewood, the whole town acts like winter was your personal decision.
Nothing humbles you quite like spending two in-game years building the perfect house, decorating it beautifully, then realizing you placed your whole home in the opposite direction of everyone else's. AND don't even get me started on carrying logs. One minute you're a respected village leader, the next you're waddling across the map at the speed of continental drift because you refused to make a second trip.
Bandits? Manageable.
Bears? Terrifying.
Trying to figure out why your blacksmith suddenly stopped making hammers? That's the real final boss.

I only wish, since it's mostly a settlement management/building simulator, that we had more furniture and decoration options, more customization for buildings, different types of roads for example. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tThe game was fun, but it needs more quest lines. There are little side quests you can do, but there are a finite number that just get recycled across the years. I rushed the two main storylines and finished them in 3 in-game years, which I regret. I thought that the quest lines would take me much longer to complete, given that they have a deadline of 16-18 years each, and it wasn't until I'd completed the majority of each that I realized I should have been spending more time in my settlement and taking my time with the main quests.
In light of that, I think the developers made a mistake in locking my settlement's development with the "chapter" quests (where you have a building limit that slowly increases as you accomplish tutorial-like tasks) while allowing me to progress so swiftly through the two major storylines. The chapter quests should've gone much faster and granted a higher building limit more quickly, and they should probably be reordered (having a child should come much earlier to allow time for it to grow up). On the other hand, the main storyline with Uniegost should take a page out of the Alwin storyline's playbook by making the player wait a season before progressing certain parts, as that would encourage the player to focus on their settlement (perhaps just have Uniegost disappear for Castellan-related duties every now and then).
Given that there's a mechanic to have a child and then eventually take over and play as that new character, it seems an oversight that there are no main quests that string out while awaiting your child's growth into adulthood, and a further oversight that there are no major quests that come into play once you take over the child. It's such a unique and interesting feature, but I wasn't going to wait around doing the same side quests and completing the same settlement chores for another 16 years. I would love to see (1) more stories that take me into the lives of the other villagers, like we did with Alwin; (2) more quests that result in gaining a traveler with great starter stats, so that I can feel like I know those settlers in my village and am more invested in them; and (3) quests that build as your child grows and become a storyline for the child to take over.
