I'd already sunk hours into the Divinity Original Sin games before that, so the moment I saw gameplay clips on YouTube, I was hooked instantly. Everything about it felt familiar yet somehow more alive.
Here's the part I'm not proud of, though. At the time I was completely broke, no job, no income, so I downloaded a pirated copy just to see what the hype was about. I ended up playing close to 300 hours on that version. I built my character, got attached to my companions, explored every corner I could find, and then I reached Act 3.
Not because I was bored. Not because I was burnt out. Then something clicked in my head. I remember thinking "if I actually love this game as much as I think I do, shouldn't I be the one paying for it instead of enjoying all these beautiful moments on a pirated copy? What was the point of falling this hard for something and never actually supporting it?" So I made myself a promise. I would not finish Baldur's Gate 3 until I could buy it. As much as it hurt, I closed the game and left my save sitting in Act 3. I wanted to know how my story would end. I wanted to finish every side quest and keep exploring every inch of the city. I had already become so attached to my campaign that walking away felt awful.
But I waited.
Three years passed, and life changed in ways I never expected. I went through a breakup, battled depression, grieved the loss of people and animals I cared about, learned from my mistakes, and slowly became a better person. Somewhere along the way, I found a stable job, got my finances together, and finally built the gaming PC I had always dreamed of.
I still remember playing Act 3 on my old gaming laptop, watching my frame rate struggle in the 30 to 40 FPS range, but I kept playing anyway because I loved this game that much. This time, though, I could finally experience it the way it was meant to be played.
And then Summer 2026 happened.
I bought Baldur's Gate 3. Properly, fully, no shortcuts this time. Booting it up again felt like coming home. The soundtrack hit different, the bards playing in taverns, my companions falling right back into place beside me. It might sound strange, but over the past few years I spent a lot of time feeling alone. Having this party together again somehow reminded me that even in a single-player game, I never really felt lonely. I know they are just fictional characters, but after everything I had been through, seeing them again felt oddly comforting. I have learned to be okay on my own, even if I still do not know where life will take me next. Maybe there are still hardships waiting for me. Maybe there are still lessons I have yet to learn, mistakes I still need to make peace with, and parts of myself I still need to understand. Whatever comes, I will face it one step at a time. Returning to Baldur's Gate 3 reminded me of how far I have come. The NPCs, the cities, the little details I remembered, they all felt just as alive as they did three years ago. Every moment brought back the same warmth I felt back then, except this time it was finally mine.

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tbg3 has genuinely become one of my favourite games ever. i went into it never having played d&d before and honestly i wasn’t even that interested in turn-based combat, so i rlly wasn’t expecting to fall in love with it as much as i did. safe to say i was very, very wrong. if you’re anything like i was and you’re hesitating bc you’ve never played d&d or you’re not sure if turn-based combat is your thing, pls don’t let that put you off. i promise i was in exactly the same boat and now i genuinely can’t imagine never having experienced this game. there’s honestly just…soo much to love. the world, the lore, the amount of freedom you’re given, the character creator, the choices you get to make, the different classes, the dialogue…it all comes together so perfectly. i absolutely love that no two playthroughs ever have to be the same. there are soo many different choices to make, different endings to discover, different classes to try and somehow i always end up finding things i completely missed before. i genuinely don’t think i’ll ever get bored of replaying it. the companions deserve soo much love too. every single one of them has such an amazing story and i genuinely ended up getting way more attached than i ever expected. they slowly start feeling less like companions and more like your own lil found family, which honestly made me care abt every decision even more. the voice acting is absolutely incredible too and brings every single character to life so well. and astarion…yeah…he completely stole my heart. every single playthrough i tell myself “this time i’m gonna romance someone else”…and then astarion exists and suddenly those plans disappear. I’M TOO WEAK</3 i’ve basically become the vampire’s personal juice box and i regret absolutely nothing. also…you can pet a doggo AND an owlbear. if that isn’t enough to convince you to buy this game then i genuinely don’t know what is. my only lil disclaimer is that act 3 can be a bit overstimulating (at least for me). once you get to the city there’s just…soo much going on. sooo many ppl talking, sooo many quests, sooo many places to explore…my brain was actively exploding T_T it’s definitely not a bad thing tho, just don’t feel like you have to do absolutely everything at once. also…withers big naturals is an essential mod. i’m not explaining myself lmao. overall i genuinely don’t think i’ll ever stop recommending this game to others. this game, its world and its characters will genuinely always have a special place in my heart. massive shoutout to my sister for introducing me to this game bc you’ve accidentally created another bg3 addict hehe :p 10/10. larian, respectfully…MORE. A lot of options to build your character however you want. There are massive power spikes later in the game that will make combat trivial. I didn't have any specialized build but was doing massive damage each turn.
The first two acts are beautifully crafted and it feels like you can actually lose your battles if you don't fight well and plan it out. Act 3 is where it sort of falls apart in terms of story, performance, and stability. The last act was easily the most laggiest and glitchest of them all. However, the boss battles during this act were really interesting and fun to play out despite having really strong characters. The story also falls apart during this act. The presentation is excellent. The graphics, music and voice acting are all top quality. Almost everything surrounding the actual experience of playing the game, however, feels unnecessarily awkward.
The user interface is horrendous. I repeatedly clicked on companions or other characters while simply trying to move around, triggering conversations and interactions I never intended to start. The inventory system is cluttered and tedious, and even basic actions, such as entering stealth and positioning a character for a backstab, feel more cumbersome than they should.
Exploration is equally frustrating. Holding the Alt key only reveals interactable objects within a very limited radius, making it easy to overlook important items or routes. On my first playthrough, I reached the Underdark but eventually gave up because I could not work out how to progress through it.
I was not expecting the game to hold my hand, but Baldur’s Gate 3 often seems designed around the assumption that players have endless time to consult online guides, tutorials and walkthroughs. A game should provide enough information for players to understand its systems and make meaningful progress without repeatedly leaving it to search the internet.
The balancing also feels badly uneven. I frequently found my party completely outmatched, and combat rarely felt satisfying enough to justify the preparation, inventory management and repeated reloading surrounding it. Rather than tactical and rewarding, it often felt crude, slow and lacklustre.
There is clearly an impressive amount of work in Baldur’s Gate 3, and I understand why many people love it. For me, though, the beautiful presentation cannot compensate for an interface that constantly fights the player, frustrating navigation and progression that too often feels dependent on outside resources.

I haven't played many RPGs in general, and in the CRPG subgenre, Baldur's Gate 3 was only my second such game. Yet that didn't stop me from thoroughly enjoying Swen Vincke's magnificent creation.
Let's go step by step — Graphics. For a top-down game, this level of visual quality is simply unthinkable. You could easily add a third-person view, and the game would still look stunning. And the incredible panoramas… I kept stopping just to capture the views of this beautiful world. It's a breathtakingly gorgeous game.
The plot of Baldur's Gate 3 might not seem very complex at first glance: the protagonist has a problem — and needs to solve it. But as you progress, the story gains new layers, details, introduces more characters, and reveals the lore of the world. I really liked how the game unfolds all of this gradually and organically, without overwhelming the player with too much information at once.
Still, in games like this, what matters most is the adventure itself — overcoming obstacles along the way, meeting various characters. Speaking of which, the game features a huge number of characters, each with their own backstory and, most importantly, a distinct personality that shines through in every dialogue. Special mention should go to the companions. Each has a compelling, layered personal story, complete quests that are tightly woven into the main narrative. We spend the most time with our companions throughout the game, and each reacts differently to events as they unfold, which naturally makes us grow more attached to them and empathize with their journeys.
The gameplay of Baldur's Gate 3 is something you could easily sink thousands of hours into. Personally, I enjoy turn-based combat systems in games, and this was no exception. The sheer variety of everything here is staggering: classes, battles, locations, actions, spells, skills, items, quests, and so on. The dice-roll mechanic for all actions deserves a special mention — it didn't bother me, though it could be a bit annoying at times. I think the dice adds an element of unpredictability and challenge to the game. Because of this, every playthrough feels different, and each player ends up with a unique experience.
All in all, this is one of the best RPGs in the gaming industry. Baldur's Gate 3 sets a high bar for quality in every aspect. I recommend it to absolutely anyone who loves games — at least give it a try. Games like this come out very rarely.

And the incredible panoramas… I kept stopping just to capture the views of this beautiful world. It's a breathtakingly gorgeous game.
The plot of Baldur's Gate 3 might not seem very complex at first glance: the protagonist has a problem — and needs to solve it. But as you progress, the story gains new layers, details, introduces more characters, and reveals the lore of the world. I really liked how the game unfolds all of this gradually and organically, without overwhelming the player with too much information at once.
Still, in games like this, what matters most is the adventure itself — overcoming obstacles along the way, meeting various characters. Speaking of which, the game features a huge number of characters, each with their own backstory and, most importantly, a distinct personality that shines through in every dialogue. Special mention should go to the companions. Each has a compelling, layered personal story, complete quests that are tightly woven into the main narrative. We spend the most time with our companions throughout the game, and each reacts differently to events as they unfold, which naturally makes us grow more attached to them and empathize with their journeys.
The gameplay of Baldur's Gate 3 is something you could easily sink thousands of hours into. Personally, I enjoy turn-based combat systems in games, and this was no exception. The sheer variety of everything here is staggering: classes, battles, locations, actions, spells, skills, items, quests, and so on. The dice-roll mechanic for all actions deserves a special mention — it didn't bother me, though it could be a bit annoying at times. I think the dice adds an element of unpredictability and challenge to the game. Because of this, every playthrough feels different, and each player ends up with a unique experience.
All in all, this is one of the best RPGs in the gaming industry. Baldur's Gate 3 sets a high bar for quality in every aspect. I recommend it to absolutely anyone who loves games — at least give it a try. Games like this come out very rarely.

The world is incredibly detailed, the characters are memorable and every choice genuinely feels like it matters. The turn-based combat is deep without being overwhelming and the amount of freedom you have to solve problems is unlike almost any other game. Get used to rolling awful at the start, but this soon changes!
Whether you're playing solo or with friends, there's always something new to discover. The story, voice acting, music, and visuals are all top-notch, and it's clear how much care went into every part of the game. I mainly played this with friends, but ive got multiple saves by myself which i enjoy too.

I want to be clear i do not blame Larian for the Story issues on this one cause the dead three-absolute plot is dumb as ♥♥♥♥, and that is just dnd cannon so meh.

A single misstep can wipe out tens of minutes or hours of progress, creating immense frustration.

The combination of mandatory turn-based combat and complex D&D rules makes every action feel like solving a math problem. Party members frequently unlink or get stuck behind terrain, requiring constant, tedious micromanagement. I am one to never have the patience to replay a game because it gets boring, but this game is so different every time I play it. I currently am up to 6 campaigns running simultaneously both with friends and solo and there is always something new that I haven't seen before. I strongly recommend picking up this game and giving it a shot.
