Has the best mechanics of any zombie survival game and will hands down take up more of my time to come. There is a learning curve and you will consider refunding the game. I usually live out of a van, stock up on guns and ammo, and move from town to town looking for supplies and trouble. I have no problem firing guns and attracting hordes — dealing with the mess you just created is half the fun. Add bandits and suddenly you have armed NPCs to worry about too, which makes things even more unpredictable.
There’s always something to do: explore, work on cars, clear towns, collect weapons, build a base or just stay mobile. I’ve never really felt the need to sit at home waiting for the game to give me a reason to leave. It’s a sandbox, so a lot of the progression comes from whatever you decide to do. If I needed the game to constantly give me quests and tell me what to do next, I’d probably be playing something else.
Hundreds of hours in and I’m still finding new ways to get myself killed. That’s kind of the point.

Delivered years behind schedule by a team that makes huge promises they can't deliver, and still in a barely playable state. I'm posting this review after spending 20+ hours running a hosted multi-player rife with bugs, finally culminating in a game that crashed on load every time. This is with zero mods installed, an AMD Ryzen 7 9800x3d, and 32gb of RAM. After fifteen years of development it's really unacceptable that the base game is still in this state. Constant desync issues, lag, zombie target stuttering, vanishing vehicles, disappearing clothes, animation glitches that lead to player death (I've played hundreds of hours, I know the difference between a glitch and a skill issue). I'm even going to ignore the fact that Build 42 turned the "tedium simulator" aspect of the game up ten notches, because that's more subjective than the basic level this review is getting at. The game is too buggy to be reliable, and therefore too buggy to be enjoyable. It's been fifteen years. Fix your ****.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The developers are incompetent and have decided to treat stable like it's another unstable branch without leaving a way to stay on a specific version, ruining any hope of any long-term modded saves. Like if I want to play and not have to start a new guy every time why can't I. I have played zomboid for i believe three to four years on and off now and it has been a bumpy ride let me tell you. The game itself is amazing and full of replay value but once you figure out how the game works and how to "Beat" it the game is never the same.
EA Deadlock-
Its not a secret that this game has been in EA for about 13 years and there's no end in sight as the devs seem more interested in adding pointless additions like pottery instead of things to improve the mid to late game. Build 42 has been in its own valley of eternal development for close to three F****** years! Which is crazy when you think of the things added to this update things like pottery, blacksmithing, hunting, and many other things that modders had already made for the game well before this update. Pointless stuff that no one asked for nor really use. Some things are nice like the new lighting system and map updates but for the most part this Build sucks A**.
Nothing Nothing ever changes..
The endgame of Project Zomboid is essentially how long your willing to keep playing. Once you have a car, weapon, and some kinda base setup the game is over, Start a new run. There is nothing interesting to do outside of the basic find S*** and dump it back at your base. I mean yeah you can build up the base and grow crops but there's no reason too the map has plenty and i mean essentially unlimited food, meds, and ammo to keep you going well after you get bored and quit. There's no looming threat of a big horde night, or bandits pounding on the gates. Unless your in MP the game is so stagnant it borders on pointless. Adding NPC's and enemies that challenge your dominance would fix this problem but the devs have more important things to make like how much skill does it take to nap a flint into a spearhead or some s***. This will never change don't expect it. Moving on
Gameplay-
Gameplay is pretty dull once you figure out how to kite and swat zombies to death. They of course "fixed" this by making the act of swinging tire your poor wittle man baby's arms out in two swings like im playing a mid 30's basement goonmaster. So combat has become tiresome as its easier to just to ignore the whole point of the game, the zombies, by kiting them and grabbing stuff as you go. The game is not harder by any means just more boring to play and modders had to jump in to remove this dog**** addition because no one liked it.
If that doesn't bore you the simple act of looting identical rooms and layouts will. There's hardly anything interesting to find in a game where looting is all you f***** do. Mods add music, unique weapons, and plenty other things to spice stuff up once in a while. But base game your lucky to find something that can even evoke more than a subtle sigh as you go back to searching for more cans of beans. And base building is so pointless i really don't understand why anyone bothers doing it. The Zombies will never sack your base nor threaten you in any way unless you agro them by running around and screaming. So your free to pick a good crossroads and begin hording everything in your amazon warehouse unimpeded. Better yet take your s*** on the road in a truck and never stop to worry about unloading because whats the point? To horde more cans of beans or another m16?
Sure playing pvp lobbies could make gameplay more interesting and fun but combat in itself is based on hit chance and dice rolls similar to RuneScape so its not like there's any strategy other than catching someone off-guard to pop a few shots into him before your arms tire out. Then it turns into two characters shoulder bashing together like some f****** up mating ritual because your characters can't be bothered to duke it out with anyone due to exhaustion. from the simple act of swinging a hammer more than the recommended three swings per day.
A little of a exaggeration sure but the gameplay is dated to say the least and the new updates to it have made it stupid.
Idk what else to tell you really there's some detailed mechanics to the game but honestly once you figure out the three things you need and how to get them the game is baby mode easy. Sure i could let the zombies sprint and make everything decay in 2 milliseconds but that is a challenge mode not the normal mode of play. For anyone who is hoping/ waiting for a full release id just buy it and play build 41 until you get bored like i did. The new content is overall lame and mostly useless, im sure not everyone agrees but id rather have bandits and NPC's to quest and help so the endgame is actually worth playing than braindead animals to hunt and pottery to make until i bore myself to sleep.
Idk im mixed for new players its a easy 10/10 zombie game that will challenge you and give you your money's worth. But if your like me and waiting on some actual content to dive back into the game then your s*** outta luck as the game has been in a never ending devlock for over a decade and really not much to show for it other than more boring and useless mechanics that 90% of the playerbase never uses. Until they sit down and add stuff to fix the terrible endgame its a rough 3/10 for me.

Menus are funky but make sense once you get deeper into the game. Not for the faint hearted. This is one of the best and darkest video games I've ever played.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tJust like any survival game, PZ has one big fundamental problem: a lack of endgame content. But in PZ, it becomes a problem pretty early on. The game is fun at first, but after getting past the learning curve and actually surviving for more than two in-game weeks, PZ quickly becomes super hollow and boring. The entire gameplay loop consists of just looting houses, killing zombies, and hoarding items in your base until you are set for life—that's it.
There is some extra stuff, like skills that you can level up. But the thing is: you don't even need to interact with 80% of them for your entire playthrough. And when you are forced to interact with the remaining 20%, it's not even fun or interesting (Take fishing, for example). So that's another problem.

I must say that I am amazed how realistic the game is! I mean, you need to consider a lot before doing anything and the game wants you to act like you are living in the real world. Well, the other survival games aren't successful to catch this feeling for me. Thinking, i.e., even a simple thing in the game needs an action as you do in a real life. So, I do that in PZ, too, and it works buttery smooth. Marvelous!

Please give this game a shot. you will not be disappointed. If you enjoyed playing the Sims games, you'll enjoy the camera and view style of this one. \n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\tBuild 42 is so far the most unstable build they have delivered. Multiplayer feels like addon more than part of the official build. Constant desyncs, crashes and memory leaks makes this game impossible to play. I have tried this update (marked as "stable") with 2 friend and we gave up after several desync problems on stairs in military base. This game has memory leaks that makes me restart server every +/- 4hrs to not crash my ram. One chunk of our base got deleted twice (not the most important parts but still lost items and structures). While playing we encountered enormous amounts of desync like: my friend was teleporting while driving making it impossible to ride with him in convoy, zombies sometimes moonwalked around my friend biting him when he was dashing away ( on my screen only. i had to ask him if he is getting bitten or no, it destroyed coop in combat because position of my friends and zombies were unreadable by this), when armor was destroyed it disappeard only to reappear after reconnecting to server ( i've read that this is a known bug so its nice that they know at least), when my mask fell off and i picked it up it was still on a floor but uninteractable, crafting animation playing after progress bar was full (had to cancel and do again, the same bug is with reading), and final desyc that shut down my pc was on stairs in military base where my friends and i were seeeing each other on different floors and it looked like: my one friend was killng zombies when other on my screen do the same but floor up swinging the sword through air and zombies were just dying because on his screen he was on floor with them. not to mention several frame spikes lags and stutters and other bugs like no wall on rosewood bank on cellar level where i could go into void just like that ah and the cherry on top. I had to install ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SQL to repair players.db because my friend couldnt join with his character. It turns out that his playername got ereased from his character entry and i had to rewrite it there. there were plenty of other bugs like after killing a zombie his loot disappears or stamina glitches and is infinite until you reconnect and old bugs like if you hold e and spam left click you are attacking faster. i can go on and on. This game is currently in abysmall state and i am very disappointed because i was waiting soo long for this "stable" update and it turs out it is unstable af. new map is nice but with this state of the game i cant even experience it. there are a lot of placeholder items in this game like anvil or blower fan. But of course we do have animal genetics with their unique allels. they have wasted time on things that noone will experience instead of fixing core problems. Two months since "stable" and only thing they have done is pushing a hotbrake that broke some mods. Those developers are waste of my time, sanity and hope. Milions of copies sold and they cant hire someone competent. I still do hope that things will turn out differently in the future but as for now i need to forget about this game, probably until managment will get changed.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

But do I recommend it? Currently, no. Why? Because the game has such a significant amount of erroneous code and bugs that it's almost impossible to believe. For your character alone: you have no reason to train Nimble above level 6. Why? Combat speed is capped at 1.2, and you hit that cap at level 6. Training any combat skill other than Axe leaves you one rank behind Axe because of mistakes in the code. And there is so much more that goes unattended and is frequently reported on their forums without any attention paid.
Whenever the game fixes all of it, and I happen to still be alive (it will, I suspect, take many years), this review will change to an easy yes.

I join servers and even play with mods but for some reason it just crashes I tried everything in the book for it to work but. I think the fact of the matter is that the dev's released build 42 without patching major bug stuff like the stairs in the prison that trap you behind a wall. Also most of the mods do work its just build 42 with all the extra stuff didn't account for that so it crashes. Anyways I love the game but please make builds stable before releasing them publicly.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

It has a lot of things I like, but I ended up hating the combat, hiding, exploring - it is not made in a way I would enjoy. I would like to focus on living in the world, surviving, bringing stuff to my place and be safe there, kiloing zombies around the zone so that only a couple of them would get on my territory. But the zmbie destribution is not the way i enjoy. Would be nice having safe zones and more dangerous zones where I may go if I want to more distinguished. I will probably get back to it in the future, but I would not recommend it.

There are also a ton of mods on the workshop so you can add things you think are missing. Best of all, it has multiplayer!
