I came for totalitarianism and left with unnecessary knowledge of the developers' not so barely disguised fetishes. Aside from the long, drawn out moaning and choking sounds during electrocution, this game is endearing in its pure unadulterated shamelessness, taking assets, animations, and concepts from Halo, Overwatch, Palworld, Metal Gear, Rimworld, Helldivers, to name a few. An unholy amalgamation of all these and more, it certainly is a game. Given its dubious backstory and history, one can only hope its saving grace is its attempt at irony.

Much like Palworld (Sorry Multiverse, you ARE going to draw these comparisons) it is a base building creature collector shootathon.
However unlike Palworld which draws much of its inspiration from ARK, Conan, and other Survival-likes, the base building structure of Pax Autocratica seems to be closer to... Traditional RTS buildings, almost? The tech tree buildings, anyway.
The core of its gameplay loop will involve scouring a universal map for resource nodes, to which you engage in DOOM/Quake-like skirmishes against NPC's, and with a ramping difficulty counter that increases the longer you spend travelling in the universal map. A campaign meter is set above the difficulty meter that typically caps at 5 mission completions, that leads to a 'boss battle' that is more accurately described as 'EDF-Lite' in that its usually an absurd military operation involving (as of the first sector) taking down a massive walker installation.
The 'Creature Collector' mechanic is that you can capture any NPC you can shoot. Cannon fodder, bosses, etc. I haven't tried capturing a Mech yet, but I know I can't capture a Walker.
Much of the base mechanics are simply buildings that enable research trees so far, but now that I have the retail game I can already see things such as breeding barracks, indoctrination daycare, etc.
Can't wait for the sex patch on the roadmap, and wonder if its ironic AKA the leader can breed with subjects and have offspring or a literal age rating changing mechanic.
So far, like Palworld, it's not so much innovating as it is trying to blend a LOT of mechanics that are familiar across multiple genres into a unique experience, and I will say it has met its own expectations.

This game is fun, the devs listen to player feedback and actively are looking to make the game better. Hell, I've complained about a few things during the playtest and demo phases and those things got changed pretty quickly. For example, soldiers used to eat like swarms of hangry locusts, you'd have to go on expeditions specifically to get food and only food just to make sure your soldiers didnt starve and they tuned that fairly quickly to where food management is... well.. manageable and not a chore.
The gameplay itself is really fun. It's mostly a Rogue-like Shooter Bullet Hell game with a little RTS element mixed in. What's great is you can actually focus on making your soldiers more of your backbone to your killing potential rather than it being purely you. Bring the right soldiers along to compliment each other and they'll deal with enemies just as well as you can. (Especially when you bring elite soldiers and their fun little abilities)
Honestly the game is just great. I recommend giving it a whirl, engage with Steam's 2 hour refund policy if you need to, but I don't think you'll be disappointed if you enjoy a good roguelike shooter with bullet hell elements and base management. Its kinda like Cult of the Lamb... but a shooter, and if ya like that game, I feel like you'll enjoy this one as well!
Also the devs have promised Co-op in the future, probably closer to full release, so look forward to playing with your friends if thats the only thing holding you back!

Many of them have a history of basically copying and pasting the same negative reviews on other games to the point where I think a good deal of the negative reviews are bots/ai themselves. :P\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

This was never about making something fun, enjoyable or even remotely focused on ensuring player satisfaction, but rather, in ensuring that we are kept addicted to their game and, before their redesign, likely in doing so for the sake of their own profits.
Add in the fact that they have blantantly ripped off Palworld's 'capture' system without even bothering to hide the similar UI design and functionality... then add in the half-baked rip-off of a DOOM style combat system with bullet hell elements that simply don't work because it's purely made to look like a DOOM game. THEN add in the UI and base mechanics that are wholly unintuitive and designed to look appealing with minimal effort.. THEN add in the 'mini-game' aspect which is just a 'power meter' minigame which is as generic and boring as they come. THEN add in the fact that the rogue-like elements are as barren as anything else, taking place on a sector map that is, also, unintuitive with how difficult it is to click on where you want to go, with no real indication of objectives to aim for beyond a danger bar and progress bar... PLUS the absolutely jankiness of the 'Army' system which doesn't function in any manner that isn't, you either order them to stand still, follow you, or attack one enemy.. but even then are just non-factors since they don't actually contribute to the fight in a meaningful way.
This isn't a game made by people that intended to make a game at all. It's made by crypto scammers who wanted to have a front for their crypto and NFT trading.
The fact that they rebranded so hard, pulled from profitable and popular games for 'inspiration' for their game mechanics and systems without even remotely designing anything of their own from scratch is just proof that this isn't a game that has a future.
It will never be anything beyond what works in the moment for the developers, all for the sake of their own profitability. Everything about this game is trash. It's designed to look enticing, but inside, is a disaster waiting to happen. DO NOT buy this game.

I'm tired of Early Access. What you are making isn't worth buying as is today. It's a half-made idea of a game that previously failed you. And what I see in the game today is a broken down version of EFAS with all the promises, and none of the delivery.
Somehow, you raised $4.5M to make this game, reported by GamesBeat back in 2022, and where did all that go?
You've got the backer names forced into the game that we can't remove.
You've got the same faction names pulled from EFAS with no changes made there, showing a lack of any real narritive changes being made for the game's story.
The player models are just pulled directly from EFAS with an authoritive cap put on their heads.
You've made promises to make EFAS the best game ever, comparable to World of Warcraft and EVE, and then reneged on that promise with the whole rebranding to Pax Autocratica.
You've got work to do to prove this is something worth purchasing because I cannot trust that us players are going to be the priority given your group's history with attempting to include NFT / Crypto. You've changed your mind once after all.. who knows if that'll happen again.
Add in the inflated positive reviews for a game that is, in all aspects, underwhelming for what it is is another reason for my distrust. Too many 'backers' coming out of the woodworks, throwing a positive review on this, and then piling on anyone who speaks against the game.

It is early access. I am aware of it. That is not a free-pass for issues, however. If it's on sale, I would expect a product I can at least enjoy for a few hours. This is not it.
The game has a massive identity crisis. It wants to both be a shoot-em-up roguelike, a basebuilder, and some weird story adventure thing with a preset character following a plot.
Why?
It's like the developers liked different things and were forced to work together on a single project by threat of punishment, or the massive scope overreach was too tempting to ignore.
None of the systems really work that well. The gunplay is boring. The sound design is atrocious. Hell, you can see it in the first cinematic battle that's supposed to be at least kind of "epic". It's not. You don't hear gunfire from further than 20 yards, the AI mooks being larger than you make you feel like you're playing Deep Rock Galactic, and your allied troops are designed with atrociously large heads akin to bobblehead toys.
The graphics do not look like the trailer (with alleged gameplay), too. The textures are nothing special. Reminds of one of those games that came out back when Windows Vista was a thing but infinitely more janky.
The roadmap is also terrifying. Player/Soldier Relationships? Soldier/Soldier Relationships? Marriage? Is that GENUINELY necessary? All that, but no character customization? You're forced to play a pre-set dude. Mass Effect did irrepairable damage to modern gaming.
I was expecting to impose my will as an authorative figure upon a docile and compliant workforce, not play Stardew Valley mixed with Conan Exiles/Palworld.
Speaking of, the authoritarian aspect is very underbaked. If your idea of a dystopian dictatorship is merely black-red paint, cameras everywhere and campiness---then no.
I cannot recommend it at this point.

It feels like every feature is half assed, and I know its early access, but there's room for more everywhere and it simply didn't happen. Bosses are just the same enemies as normal but scaled up, the ai is really atrocious, the prison to recruitment system is just spam two buttons every day until they join you, the constant voice lines and writing make me wish I didn't have ears, the maps are the same few maps over and over, the first major boss thing that isn't a scaled up enemy is a 'base walker' where you shoot its legs, but it doesn't walk, it just sits there. The whole game feels like the devs just stopped at 'good enough.'
After two and a half hours, I felt like I've already ran out of maps, and with no randomization on the maps its the same enemies spawning in the same spots at the same time. The whole thing is repetitive, clunky, and feels unpolished and unfinished. But hey, its early access, it *should* be unfinished. I just don't think its 25 bucks of unfinished yet. The whole thing feels like several half baked gimmicks strapped together with duct tape.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

The overarching gameplay is base building/worker upkeep, with an FTL-like system that gets harder the longer you linger. Lots of randomly generated things to do, although the environments are bound to become repetitive with the limited variety. AI is laughably bad and often walk into breathing distance to fire at one another. I'd love to see some sort of player customization beyond gear that has no cosmetic value, alongside AI updates to make this game's AI more competent than something from Serious Sam which has the depth of "run forward and kill until you die."\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

I was expecting more of a open world RPG; but this scratches an entirely different itch. I like building things but I am having some trouble figuring out how to make additional ships now that the tutorial has ended.

Does it feel early access? Yes. I mean, a few of my soldiers are obstensible female based on their employee avatar and voice lines. They are however built like Absolute Batbrick and not in the cool she-hulk way. They'll probably fix that with a soldier update later.

Build a base, conquer the galaxy, breed humans to build up your population etc, etc. Put tanks in your ships, bring people to the battlefield, have large scale end battles. I could go on, did I mention you capture enemies like in palworld? You can then turn them into base workers/fighters and even have them breed with other workers lol (yes it is a thing, workers and people at your base get pregnant, though it is pretty random I think). I have 8 hours in the demo plus what you see here, and funny enough my progress transferred over from the demo which I think is pretty dope. Coming from 2 developers, I am somewhat impressed. Meanwhile companies with thousands of people deliver low tier games, so honestly this is a step up. Game played flawlessly with everything maxed plus 4k. I saw 240 fps with dips to about 200 with frame gen off, so this is obviously well optimized for the specs. I enjoy it. I wish multiplayer was released with early access but I get it, it is in the roadmap. I hope that comes soon though I would love to play this game with a friend.
There are feedback options that are easily accessible in the menu settings so it is obvious that the devs are open to suggestions.

It's a seriously ambitious project that's really in my opinion pushing something a lot of people, myself included, are looking for. You ARE the commander/Leader, not a Menu Manager. You want to go mine asteroids? Walk over to your ship and go to space. You want to build? Go build. You want to deploy a strike team and go attack a station? Grab your crew, grab your gear, and go do it! The game keeps you playing as your character and let's you evolve base/automation/crew/workers/etc as tools to improve your functionality as the main character/player. Far too many games that try to mix these genres end up being micro-managing menus and automating away all gameplay, this game feels different and it's fun.
Now - as for early access and actual content available now, for $25 it's offering plenty and there's been solid performance AND the controller support is solid. (Played entirely on Steam Controller only needed KB to enter character name).
There's some noticeable lack of polish, and I mean polish, nothing buggy/broken, but animations are rough, enemy and friendly AI is questionable, and you'll see a lot of Oblivion-level "wait, wtf is that NPC doing over there?" moments when units get confused on geometry. It's all in the expected realm for EA though, the kind of stuff we early players will praise in time as it evolves, and later players will never even know how it used to be lol
Overall if the game looks appealing to you, I'd say go for it now. It's not ready to run out and spread the need to buy, but if you're here thinking, "But it looks very interesting" - it is.
If you want Helldivers/Satisfactory/Rimworld - this isn't there yet. But it could be. Right now though it's very much Serious Sam/Fallout 4 ... which *is* something.\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t

Now imagine if that roguelite was the resource collection loop to feed a PalWorld style colony/worker management game. It's a bit janky, and the early access state shows, but I haven't had this much fun in a long time in a game. It doesn't do any of the genres it dips into excellently, but the combination surprisingly works and the combination makes sense for the gameplay loop. At least at this early stage.
