為何採用搶先體驗模式?

“I wanted to release this game in Early Access because I feel like it's probably something that the VR Rhythm community would want even in it's unfinished state. For the game to be considered complete I want everything that you would want to do in the game to be able to be done without taking off the headset. This means that I want the players to be able to share their created beatmaps online, to be able to play other's beatmaps, view ratings for beatmaps, and compete for the highest highscore. Currently if you want to share a beatmap you have to share the file manually at your desktop and put it in the proper folder to appear in game. While this is "workable" it is in no way something I would expect of a complete product.”

“The game should be in Early Access for no longer than a year. I would say less than that however since I'm working a 8-5hr office job and this is a passion project for me I'd rather give a longer estimate than a shorter one. Since the main content of the game is user generated most of the work needed is the plumbing to facilitate the users to be able to share and interact with each other's content.”

“The full version of the game will allows users to do everything in the game without taking off the headset. The main addition that will mark the full version will be users able to share their created beatmaps online, and being able to play other's beatmaps. Once the users can share content without having to return to their desktop, go to a online forum, download a file, put it in a folder, relaunch the game then try the new song - the game will leave Early Access.”

搶先體驗版目前的開發進度如何?

“The current state of the early access version allows players to record beatmaps to songs they found on YouTube, they can then replay those songs locally. Currently the sharing of songs has to be done from outside the game.”

“Pricing will remain the same from Early Access to the full release.”

Since the game is almost completely based off user generated content, making the process of creating and sharing content as fun and rewarding as possible is key for this project.

I'm trying to manage the communities and develop the game as best I can. I can't guarantee a huge list of new features since my free time working on the game is pretty limited at the moment, but if there is a community that wants to follow this game and there's ideas to make the game a better product I will do my best to add the communities requests to the project.”

Defeat the Beat now utilizes Steam's Workshop. You can publish BeatMaps you have recorded online and subscribe to BeatMaps other people have made through Steam's Workshop. After subscribing to BeatMaps you have to restart the game for the BeatMaps to download to the "Songs/Workshop" folder. When uploading a song to the Workshop please wait for the status text to change to "Success" before returning to the hub. Make sure to change your song's visibility from Hidden to Public to share the BeatMap with the world!

Forward
I've had 2 major passions in life, Video Games and Music. VR seems to be one of the best ways to combine those passions. It feels like something happens when you put on the headset and step into a VR rhythm game. For me it's a place I can dance like no one is watching and I love to really get into the beat or melody of a song. I wanted to create an experience where you could express yourself dancing however you want to a song and then replay it in a way that feels like you're in the middle of an intense VR action game. And so "Defeat the Beat" was born.

Overview
Defeat the Beat has 2 main components. Recording and Playing, both done in game in VR. You can search for a song and record your movements to the song. After recording or downloading beat maps you can try for a highscore against the boss as it sends attacks at you in the exact way the song was recorded.


Recording
  • Creating beatmaps are done entirely in VR
  • Search for any video on YouTube to record to
  • Use 4 different weapons (Shield, Sword, Blaster, and Bow) to create a beatmap to however the song makes you feel
  • Currently songs are saved locally and the files do not contain any copyrighted information so they can be shared outside the game legally

Playing
  • Face off against the beat - and try to match the moves of the beatmap's creator
  • Record your highscore locally
  • Weapons automatically switch to whatever is needed at the time so you can focus on hitting the beats.


Accessing Created Songs
Even though you cannot yet share songs in the game, you can access the beatmaps you create from the game's local content and share those files. To access the local files right click on the game in your Steam library. Click Properties > Local Files > Browser Local Files. This will open up the game's files. All of the songs created and loaded into the game are saved in the "/Songs" folder. Adding any songs to this folder will be loaded next time you start the game!
