What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“SquareWorld has a stable core, quite an amount of items and blocks to work with and a lot of possibilities. Now it's up to you how the future of the game will look like, what sectors should be expanded, what items/blocks/entities should be added. If this mantel of content exists, SquareWorld can leave Early Access. (Which does not mean that there won't be any updates anymore)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About 4 months are planned, but if the community feels that SquareWorld is still missing important content it may take a little bit longer.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There are still a few completely new things on the todo-list, including quests, magic, brewing, 4 more bosses with each about 5 guardians/puzzles/dungeons protecting these to avoid a linear and boring gameplay and a little bit of steampunk technology used for machines, vehicles and more. There are secret and special planets planned, which heavily differs from usual planets.
The second major difference will be the amount of blocks, items, biomes, enemies, or to be more general, content. It should be nearly impossible to know everything, there should be always something new.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The core features are already implemented, such as the random planet generation and portals between over 100 unique planets, multiplayer, a boss to challenge and a very detailed system to build, allowing you to shape a block in over 20 ways. There are a several plants, ores, enemies and villager.
I refused to upload an unplayable version just to get it done as soon as possible. In the current build I and my Beta-testers invested over 20 months to create a great experience, and with over 50 hours playtime we still had dozens of projects ongoing.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“A lot of people consider supporting an Early Access game as a small risk, so I offer a discount during the Early Access. The final game will cost a little bit more.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“There is the Steam forum, a discord server and the precious feedback button in the game itself to make suggestions, tell me what you like or don't like or to get in contact with me.

I am planning on creating building contests, the winners buildings will be included in the random building generation of the game.”

About This Game

Nothing should stop your imagination, so there are over 200 blocks to build with, and this is just an alpha release! Most blocks can be chiseled and shaped in dozens of ways too. What to do with all the buildings? Let villager move in and establish an empire!

A planet is not enough? Well, luckily there are 100 additional planets to explore! Each randomly generated, no one looks the same. Some have villages, some epic dungeons, lava oceans, giant caves or purple alien worlds. There is always something to explore!

With friends everything becomes even funnier. Just input the name of your buddy and you can join his world, no server, no work.

But a sandbox game like SquareWorld has many more features. Let me point out my favorites!
Ever wanted level 10 on your gold-silver bow with a mithril string and a cactus on it? No? Well, with the free, customizable forging system you can use whatever material you want!
Furthermore, there are paintings to collect, bosses to slain, music to play (that's important!), precious ores to mine, dungeons to loot, villager to trade with, plants and trees to grow and a high tech airship to craft (out of leather, steel and wood. Trust me, it flies!)

Remember that SquareWorld is in Early Access and we are still working on it. You are missing an item? A block? A flying pig throwing eggs at you? Use the feedback-button in game, drop me a line and your suggestion can be reality.
