What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“As a solo developer, I am the only one checking my game for faults, because of Early Access I am able to eventually deliver a complete product without any bugs or faults. Early Access gives me the wonderful opportunity to see what people think of DeepLands. It allows me to learn what the players want from this game, and what they don't like or like about it. Right now DeepLands is for the biggest part done with the main development. However, there is still room for some new levels, and the final levels are about fifty percent done. Because the game isn't completely ready yet, it gives the players the opportunity to have a say about how they would like the ending to be, and for what should be added in the game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“With the way things are going right now, I am almost one hundred percent sure that DeepLands will be leaving early access in the summer of 2019 or earlier.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of DeepLands will have all its levels complete, and the fully completed story, and hopefully have as many bugs removed as possible.
as well as.
  • a system to upgrade your player stats.
  • Better UI
  • Battle mechanic to fight the Imps!

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Right now the game is for the biggest part playable.
You will be able to complete a large part of the game and story.
Chapters currently included and fully finished
  • Chapter one, The House
  • Chapter two, Nebodir Mountain
  • Chapter three, Lonely caves
  • Chapter four, Dwarfs!
  • Chapter five, Troll Lands
  • Chapter six, Wanderer Caves
  • Imp Dungeons
In the above-listed chapters, you will face a lot of exploring, a large variety of puzzles, and challenges.

Soon to be added chapters are:
  • Giants of the Deep
  • Inner Áris
  • The Watch Tower
  • Battle For The Blue Sun
  • Imp Town
  • The Return
These chapters are mostly finished and will be added soon. Giants Of The Deep will introduce a new battle mechanic into the game that has not yet been added in previous chapters.

For more information about the game, please view the About This section.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“for the most part, the answer is no, I think its fair to sell the game for the same price as it is now. However, if the DeepLands community would want something big to be added to the game, like for example a co-op, or a great many new levels. Then the value of the game would increase, and because it would take a lot of time to make and add, it would only seem fair to charge a little more for DeepLands.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Like said earlier, I hope to involve the community as much as possible. And really listen to what they want in the game, or what they liked or didn't like, and improving the game upon those points. I will communicate with the community through there reviews and through the Deeplands official group, and other possible Deeplands related groups on Steam, and I will at least try to communicate with the community at least ones a week.”

About This Game

.

The Game

DeepLands is a First Person Single Player Fantasy game with Puzzle game elements as well as some horror game and action game elements. The player will play mainly as a man who will have to find a way through the DeepLands in order to find his wife and a way home. The game is set in a dark and mysterious setting in the Fantasy world named Áris.

The Story

The story begins on earth in the near future. The main character you play is a man who just bought an old house and is just renovating it. But then all of a sudden strange things start to happen and then your wife disappears one day. Before even getting the change to call the police you discover that something is in the house... Then before you know it you also get dragged into the same place your wife disappeared into. But luckily you are not alone, a small friend is helping you on your journey through the DeepLands and into the hollow world where you are looking to find your wife. But this won't be that easy you soon discover as the two biggest kingdoms of the deep are at war with one another.

About DeepLands and the Developer

DeepLands is a game made by me, Tim Venekamp. A seventeen-year-old Dutch guy that has always had a lot of imagination and a desire to make and design his own world. I launched the game when I was sixteen years old, in the summer of 2018. When I started developing I didn't know anything about the industry, I just made the world I wanted to make. As I grew older I learned more about programming and the industry in general, to the point where I am right now. The thing about DeepLands that I think is so unique is that I made it the way I wanted my fantasy world to be, and not like the big industry giants who look at what would sell the best and what most gamers want. I took a lot of inspiration from Dutch artists and European culture that I grew up with.

I would describe Deeplands as a quiet, or calm game, But it does have its action moments and it will probably get more action in future updates and future levels. In this game, you will have to solve various puzzles, explore this new world, avoid as much contact with the evil creatures as possible, and eventually fight yourself a way to the "Blue Sun" where you will find your wife if you are in time.
