“Last Regiment is an easy-to-learn turn-based strategy game that does require a decent amount of strategy to win. Priced a bit high in Early Access. Has a multiplayer focus, and is definitely fun.”

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“2 years ago, we launched Legends of Callasia on Early Access. It was a great experience for us, helping balance units, fix bugs and add functionality to make the game easier for new players. After 5 months in Early access it launched to very positive reviews. It owes a lot of that to the Early Access community that helped make it a better game.

We learnt a lot of great lessons from Legends of Callasia, and much of it has made its way into the design of Last Regiment. We built the game from the ground up to be mod-friendly, and plan to release the internal Map Editor. We've worked hard to make gameplay more intuitive, without reducing strategic depth. And we're returning to Early Access, because we believe the feedback and gameplay balancing data we get from Early Access is super important for making a great Multiplayer Strategy Game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

Legends of Callasia spent 5 months in Early Access.

For Last Regiment we're looking at 6-9 months of Early Access, where we balance units and gameplay, stress test the servers and improve the game based on feedback. We also plan to roll out additional heroes, units, cards, powers and maps. At the end of Early Access we plan a Grand Tournament, exclusive to Early Access supporters, as a way of saying thank you.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access ships with a 5hr+ Single Player campaign, and 15 multiplayer maps. Over the months of Early Access we intend to roll out additional content, especially focused on multiplayer gaming (so additional maps, units, powers and heroes) based on player feedback. The final version should also include an extended Single Player Campaign.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is playable, both in Multiplayer and in a 5hr+ Single Player campaign. We're having a lot of fun in Multiplayer battles, and look forward to more users joining us to stress test the servers, help iron out game-balance issues and show us what types of maps work best for different types of users. At the start of Early Access, there'll be 4 heroes, 40+ units, 40+ power cards and 15 Multiplayer maps for 2-6 players.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be cheaper during Early Access, both because the final game is planned to contain more content, but also to show our gratitude to Early Access players for believing in the game, their help in balancing it, and providing valuable feedback.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The Community is central to any Early Access. For us, the whole point in launching the game as Early Access is to involve the actual players, and learn from them. We've got a Discord channel set up, where players can chat with the dev-team, suggest features, discuss strategies and report bugs. We're also looking to be active in the Steam forums, and to use them to communicate changes, balance tweaks and upcoming features.”
