What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We’ve set out on this journey as a small boat trying to make big waves. When you paddle along, the waves will be even more exciting. The earlier you get on the boat with us, the further we get.

From the very beginning we felt that publicly sharing our game would be a great bonus. Early Access enables us to involve you in the development and create an ever richer experience. Town builders and flooded worlds are particularly suited for this process. Become a drifter and help us salvage this polluted scrap and garbage into a beautiful town!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We have a lot in store for Flotsam, and we’re planning on realizing the full potential of the gameplay. We’ll be working on regular patches in Early Access until we feel the game is ready to ship. Looking at the planned content, this will be roughly a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We want the full version of Flotsam to be a completely replayable experience, with an ever changing world, with new biomes to travel to, with more varied landmarks. Keeping player feedback in mind, the plan is to enrich this world with more ways of interacting with the different landmarks and their inhabitants. With multiple options of salvaging, scouting and traveling the world and ways of using resources.

We plan to have more guidance with game spanning quests, huge projects to craft, and extra stories about the flooded world.
For example drifters, including the animals you rescued, might evolve to have more varied needs, quirks and abilities. Some might be unlocked as starting characters.
We aim to add more buildings and boats, enabling you to face increased threats to your town.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The described features on the store page are already implemented in the game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We respect every cent spent by early supporters. The price of Flotsam will increase by about 20% when we move out of Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“You can help us sift through the flotsam scrap and provide feedback to the Early Access via ingame tools or by using Discord. We keep you informed of our changes and design decisions during this process because we feel it’s vital to remain in sync with our drifter community.
Updates on the roadmap, patches and progress will be shared through YouTube. Regular updates will be posted on Facebook and Twitter.
We have an active Discord where we deal more directly with the community and your feedback and suggestions. This feedback will be our compass for every update we make.”

About This Game

Sail the ocean on your scrappy town. Search for food, fresh water and garbage to recycle.
If you manage your resources wisely your drifters will do more than survive.
They will thrive!

The people in the world of Flotsam have met a terrible fate. But with your help they can still make the best of it. Get to work with your crew of happy go-getters. Fish, distill water, collect driftwood and plastic or build a new inventive structure. Making sure you can stay afloat.

Remnants of the old world can be found everywhere. Re-discover old technology to improve your town. But be careful your drifters don’t get sick. The old world is polluted..

Most people still cling to the old ways and build small driftwood shacks on protruding islands. Food scarcity, garbage floods and storms left settlers and animals stranded and in need of your help. Save the poor souls and welcome them aboard in your family of drifters.

The world of Flotsam is a colorful and cheerful place. It's about going on adventures, seeing the world and cleaning it up as you go. The sun is shining, the sky is clear and the ocean is calm... mostly at least.

The people in the world of Flotsam are quirky. They each have their likes and dislikes, the things they are good at and the things you better leave to another drifter.

There is a lot to salvage and discover. But once resources start running low or you just don’t like the view: scout ahead and move your town to a new interesting location. "Land-ho!"

Quirky people working and living in a colorfully stylized floating town in a lush and vibrant blue ocean. It's not every day you find yourself stranded in a feel good apocalypse world.

Find old world technology and learn how to recycle it into something that will benefit your town. Better ways to distill water, find food or maybe even eel-ectricity?
