1.3.8 is live - master thespians, faster framerates - future tales??

We've just posted update 1.3.8, which includes new narration by JB Blanc, a shakespearian stage actor who long ago made the leap into videogames. (The voice of Caliban remains unchanged.) Thanks for a brilliant introduction, JB. Hope to see you in further tales.
This build also should have a dramatically improved framerate down in the catacombs, and also has a little bit of extra interactivity and a couple new bits of backstory to be found.
Caliban continues to get some exciting press - and we continue to brainstorm about how to tell more of the story of The Abbot's Book. With any luck, we'll have more news on that topic soon. In the meantime, please let us know if you have any difficulties with this build - or if you just want to share a thought. Thanks as always, dear visitor. We hope you like the work!

1.3.8 is in beta! New narrator (same old Caliban tho ;) and smoother framerate

Hi folks - it's been a long time since we posted an update, but we're back.

This version at last brings in new narration for the introductory scenes. JB Blanc is a brilliant voice actor, and has recorded a new opening. Thanks JB. That opening is also a little more streamlined.

There's likewise a little bit of new interactivity in scene 2.

We've also added new subtitles available in French, mon dieu! With any luck we'll be able to show the work over there in the near future.

There are also some substantial efficiency improvements in the catacombs, so with any luck, we'll stick to a solid 90fps for most/all of you.

Our little story has continued to get some attention at film festivals, and the occasional mention in the press. Enough to encourage us to make an iOS version of the project, too. Look for it on the App Store, if you want Caliban in your pocket.

All of this continues to be with an eye on getting the larger project made. With every festival, or article, or (quite literally) every good review, I think we take meaningful steps to getting The Abbot's Book brought to life someday. It's a long, slow, grass roots process, but it remains rewarding. Anyway, I hope you like the new work. I think it's a meaningful step towards the full vision. As always, please let us know if you have any problems, thoughts, or suggestions.

Thanks
Mike

About This Game

The sun will not rise, just endless moons - and you, Caliban, must try to learn why you have become trapped in a dream. It is 1680, Northern Italy. You are the last heir of a noble lineage, struggling to understand your dark inheritance. Explore the ruins of the family estate, and the incredible realm below, seeking clues to your past, and to the events that severed you from your family long ago. The darkness below reaches back centuries, and your place in this story is about to become terrifyingly clear.

Caliban Below is a short story from the world of The Abbot's Book, created by the academy award winning talent of Blackthorn Media. This tale is made as a stand-alone piece, but is also part of a much larger world. You can get a different perspective on Caliban in The Abbot's Book Demo, also available on Steam.

We love the possibilities for storytelling in VR. The world of The Abbot's Book is enormous, and we hope to tell far more of this tale as the market grows. In the meantime, please enjoy Caliban Below with our compliments. Share it with friends if you like it! We'll be thrilled if the piece can help bring more awareness to the medium.
