Why Early Access?

“Even though the game isn't fully developed and there's a lot more story and things to do coming to it, there's still a lot of great content in the game. The demand for this game has been off the charts, so we decided to allow early access on Steam.

Additionally, we don't see an end to new content in this game in the near future. The engine is constantly being updated and even when we start new projects, we will be using the same engine and cross-updating the engine with any enhancements back to House Party to unlock even more to do in the game. New adventures are constantly being added to the Original Story, and there is a steadily growing player community that is actively writing custom stories which makes for hours and hours of content even though the game is not finished.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We will eventually call one of the versions 1.0. I can see that happening sometime in late 2019. But that doesn't mean that we won't continue to update the game with new stories.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Right now, there are several stories you can already play in House Party, but before we will call this game a "full version", we plan to add lots of more content.

First off, we plan to add a lot more story to the game. A few of the characters already have really in-depth stories, and some have shorter stories, but we are planning to give every character a full in-depth story complete with unique endings.

Alongside the stories come a lot more quests to complete as well!

We also plan to add a lot more interactivity with different items around the house, and update the AI to be more autonomously interacting with the environment. When our game is fully realized, they will be very autonomous, and they would walk around and eat, drink, dance, interact with each other, and much more while they are not facilitating the player's main goals.

Additionally, we plan to add many more interactions between characters that will be able to be performed by the player in game, or directed using the Custom Story Creator so you can create elaborate new scenes and scenarios!

On top of all of this, we are using the revenue from Early Access to pump back into better graphics and animation!

You can consider the game in its current state to be more of a prototype.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable with fully voiced and animated characters, and several stories you can play through to one of many endings.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We haven't decided on the final price of the game yet. We have lots of ideas and lots more content to add. The price will remain the same until our 1.0 launch, but a price change is definitely possible considering there will be a lot more content in the game at launch. We also don't plan to offer any paid DLC.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Absolutely. We have a strong player community actively creating new content for the game using our Custom Story Creator, as well as a forum and a Discord channel. We often hold contests and give away free keys for the game and we also allow winners to pick which stories are added to the game next based on a few options.”

House Party 0.12.4 is Live!

Hey guys!

As you are already aware, the last update cycle was MASSIVE in scope! And with lots of new content comes lots of new bugs and room for improvement and optimization. That's what this update is about. Before we dove into the next content cycle, we decided to really tweak and optimize the game a bit first. This release includes many optimizations and performance tweaks that should hopefully yield a notable FPS increase for some.

It's not ALL technical stuff though! We've added some new sound effects, over 100 new background chatter lines, a complete UI redesign, and a lot of story polish as well. Enjoy!

  • Addressed an issue that could cause a distance check to reference an unintended game object instead of a move target, if a game object existed that shared a name with a move target (Garage, etc.)
  • Fixed an issue that was preventing the Roaming console command from working as expected
  • In the Original Story: If the Player delivers the line about giving Irish Coffee to Patrick within earshot of Frank, Frank will get all kinds of mad. ONLY affects this dialogue, not any others OR the act of giving Patrick the Hot Coffee item
