About This Content

Bolo was shareware in 1987. WinBolo carried that spirit forward in 1998. WinBolo 2.0 keeps it going — free on Steam, free on mobile, free on the web.

This DLC doesn't add maps, weapons, or gameplay mechanics. It adds one thing: a gold supporter badge displayed next to your name in the Players menu, visible to everyone in the game.

It's a way to say you believe free multiplayer games are worth keeping alive — and maybe, if you're one of the players who never quite got around to sending in that shareware fee back in 2001, a chance to settle up.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

WinBolo's core engine and gameplay code was originally written by John Morrison between 1998 and 2008. The 2.0 modernization — including build system updates, the networking rewrite and platform ports — was developed with substantial assistance from AI coding tools (primarily Claude), with all architectural decisions, code review, and final integration handled by John Morrison. AI is used as a coding collaborator throughout the modernization work, similar to how many developers now use Copilot or Cursor.

Some non-gameplay marketing materials — including images and video elements used in trailers, social media, and the store page — were created using AI image generation as a starting point, with composition, editing, effects, and final selection done by hand. Gameplay screenshots and video footage are unedited captures from the actual game.

The game itself contains no generative AI content at runtime. Player-facing in-game assets (graphics, sound, music, text, UI) are human-created. The in-game AI opponents ("Brains," including NewAutopilot and future ML-trained agents) use traditional game AI techniques and trained reinforcement-learning models — they don't generate text, images, or audio during play.
