What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We invite players to experience the game early and provide valuable feedback on any aspects that feel unenjoyable or unreasonable. The game is being developed mission by mission, ensuring players can still enjoy a complete in-game experience. The development team warmly welcomes any and all suggestions from players regarding both upcoming content and already released missions!

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 3 months. The early access will last approximately three months. This includes updating the game with all the important battle-related levels of 1946 (the important battles include: the Breakthrough in Central China, the Campaign in Central Jiangsu, the Battle of Dingtao, the Defense of Siping, the Battle of Zhangjiakou, and the Battle of Linjiang).”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to develop longer and more complete campaign level sequences in the full version. The early access will plan to release the earlier campaign levels in the update sequence. Therefore, we also plan to develop the following functions: achievements, statistics, and other functions.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Currently, the EA version has basically no differences from the full version at the system framework level. In terms of playable systems, the game has already implemented the fog of war system and features intelligent AI. The game also includes a logistics supply system, so you can manage your own supply lines or disrupt your opponent's.
The only drawback is that the early access version is relatively short and concise in terms of levels. You can only experience one complete series of levels, while in the full version, there will be several. Regarding missions, the game contains the complete content of the Middle of JiangSu campaign for players to experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Due to the limited number of playable missions available initially, the Early Access version will be priced lower than the full version. The price will increase upon the full release.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“You can join our co-creation efforts and share your feedback through our QQ Group (218473376), Xiaoheihe Community, or the comments section on Bilibili.

About This Game

Crimson Banner: 1946 allows you to take command of the People's Liberation Army during the fully erupted Civil War of 1946, leading your forces across the vast landscapes of China. Utilize your strategic artistry to issue diverse orders to the Red Army, managing their logistics and supply lines to secure victory in the struggle for China's liberation. The gameplay framework of Crimson Banner: 1946 follows the excellent introductory wargame series Unity of Command and introduces improvements upon it. If you are also a fan of 2x2 games, this is the Chinese perspective title made for you!

Key Features

  • Chinese Perspective - A Single Spark Can Start a Prairie Fire
For the first time in a strategy wargame released on Steam, experience the epic sweep of the Chinese Civil War from this unique viewpoint.

  • Irreversible Actions - Decide Promptly, No Regrets for Moves Made
Every command is critical. Many actions—such as those altering the fog of war or initiating attacks—cannot be undone. You must have the courage to act and bear the consequences of your decisions.

  • Logistics & Supply - Provisions Precede TroopsYou cannot focus solely on the frontline battle. You must also manage your logistical supply lines, protecting your own while severing the enemy's, to achieve more effective operations.

  • Fog of War - Unpredictable Deceptions, All Warfare is Based
Unlike traditional tabletop wargames, the digital format introduces a dynamic fog of war. Stripped of an omniscient god's-eye view, you must rely solely on available intelligence and information to make the most accurate judgments.

  • Uncompromised AI - Peril at Every Step, Waiting for an Opening
Our AI is a master of military doctrine (considerably more competent than a certain Generalissimo). It will use the fog of war to set ambushes, exploit weak supply lines to drive deep into your territory, and concentrate forces to breach your dispersed defenses. Constant vigilance is essential, for the enemy is always seeking your moment of vulnerability.
