What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I plan to add a lot more community suggested content and creative features in the future, for example things like abilities, enemies, gamemodes, and unique weapon types like carrier style summoner weapons. Also I believe the game needs a little more "juice" to it, so I look forward to the community playing my game and giving me feedback on both the game feel and what they want added next.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I estimate this game will be in early access for approximately 2 years due to the amount of features needed to be added, along with my country's 1 year long mandatory military service which I will soon.. serve, in which updates will inevitably slow down.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the full version, I plan to add more Weapons, Items, Enemies and Bosses. Later I will probably add Characters like the shopkeeper in order to add to the world while adding more gameplay features where they make sense (I will first have to get better at art for this to be implemented as I envision it in my head so this might take a while).
Arguably the most important addition I plan to add is ship blueprints. This would not only allow the player to save time when building a ship, but it could also be used for possible features like creating custom enemy and ally units, along with ships used as fighters for carrier-style summoner "weapons". It would also do wonders for any future custom levels that could be created as part of another update.
New game modes may also be added, including a fleet battle game mode, some of which could also be accessed in the main game mode as events if certain conditions are met.
I also plan to add client hosted invite based co-op and pvp multiplayer along with it's respective game modes (being client hosted and invite based will remove any need for my own dedicated servers which has a lot of positives both financial and for the longevity of the game).
Controller controls could also be added as long as I can get my hands on a controller and find a good way to implement them.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“This early access version of the game includes the full gameplay loop of the main gamemode along with an appropriate amount of Items, Weapons and Ship customization. It also includes the Level and Weapon progression of the game unlocking higher and higher difficulties and more Ship colors the higher the player's level gets. Weapon Levels unlocks those weapons to the player at the start of each run, and higher difficulty expeditions reward the player significantly more exp for beating them.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“As the game gets significant updates, the price will rise a bit in order to account for the work put into it. In total the full game price should be about 25% more than the starting one.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is a critical piece in making the game as fun to play as it can be, be it with calling out undetected bugs or suggesting new Items, Weapons or features that they want added into the game. Of course I will add only those that are viable to add, healthy for the game or fun enough to maybe bend those criteria a bit. I will try my best to communicate with the community and listen to their feedback through the Steam forums or youtube comments on the official channel.”

About This Game

Gamma Burst is a Spaceship Builder top down Action Roguelike, in which you build your spaceship using tiles (Hulls) on a grid and then placing Weapons and Thrusters on it to create all kinds of ships in all shapes and sizes.

Using what you built, you fight waves of enemies before coming toe to toe with the Boss of the stage, which is (usually) a large sized Dreadnought that fires its large weapons at you from a long distance. Dodge its attacks and whittle down it's large Health pool in order to defeat it and proceed to the next Stage.

Between each Stage, you go back to the Hangar in order to improve your Ship using the Materials, Weapons and Upgrade Items that you picked up during your expedition. You can also visit the Shop to buy or sell Weapons and trade in Scrap for Upgrade Items.

The Shipbuilding is easy to do, prioritizing creativity rather than realism, so you don't have to worry about having an engineering phd to play this game. Building a large Ship will give you a lot more stats, but keeping a small Ship and upgrading its Hull and Weapons using the same amount of Materials will result in an equivalently powerful but differently played ship build.
