The Winged Missive is a top-down RTS. Your general has a limited field of vision. Units beyond general's sight are invisible and cannot be commanded directly. Your intelligence updated when messengers of units report from frontline, and order is only executed once the messenger reaches the unit.

The Winged Missive is an RTS that places you in the role of an ancient commander. You are not an all-seeing general; your knowledge is confined to your immediate surroundings, and you can only issue direct commands to the troops within your line of sight. Beyond this limited view, you must rely on scouts and messengers to act as your eyes and voice. On a battlefield that changes in an instant, you must find the advantage in delayed intelligence and achieve victory through strategic foresight.

Gameplay Mechanics

The Winged Missive is a top-down RTS where the fog of war is absolute. Your commander has a limited field of vision. Units within this range are visible, their information is current, and they obey your commands instantly.

However, forces beyond your commander's sight are invisible and cannot be commanded directly. They operate on a realistic chain of command:

  • Intelligence: Your distant squads will dispatch scouts to relay what they see. Only when a scout reaches your commander is your battlefield intelligence updated.

  • Orders: Your commands are carried by messengers to your squads. An order is only executed once the messenger reaches its destination.

Combat

  • All units, except for scouts, will automatically engage the nearest enemy within their attack range. Scouts will maintain a safe distance unless specifically ordered to attack.

  • The game features a strategic unit counter system:

    • Cavalry is strong against Shieldbearers & Archers.

    • Shieldbearers are strong against Archers.

    • Archers are strong against Spearmen.

    • Spearmen are strong against Cavalry & Shieldbearers.

    • Scouts are vulnerable to all other unit types.

Victory ConditionsVictory can be achieved in two ways: be the first to reach the score limit by capturing and holding flags, or decisively eliminate all enemy commanders.
