What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Osiris: New Dawn is a really big, ambitious game and we are a very small team. Gathering feedback from a larger base of players will help us understand what's working, what needs improvement and, most importantly, make sure the game is enjoyable on every level.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The release date for any game is always a moving target. With Osiris we not only want to build a ton of content and features into the game and planets, we also want to build out a fully realized Solar System that can be visited with each planet providing a unique experience for version 1.0. We estimate it will take about a year to get there.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We've built Osiris to have a great technical framework which will allow us to continually add new creatures, game modes and visual elements – we want to stuff every possible inch of coolness into this space adventure. Our plan is to provide consistent major updates throughout Early Access as well as create an entire Solar System to visit before the full version is released. We plan to build upon the current set of core gameplay mechanics and expand them towards the full version of the game.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Traditionally, publishers we've worked with define Alpha as “content complete” and Beta as “feature complete,” with Gold referring to a full release candidate. We'd currently place ourselves between Alpha and Beta: call it "early Beta" if you will. The game currently has fully featured first and third person perspectives, crafting and survival mechanics, ranged and melee weapons, fully realized alien AI, several vehicles, a vast planet to explore and MULTIPLAYER!

We strive for each feature and piece of content in the game to perform solidly and look as good as possible.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We feel the price will increase after Early Access due to the increased amount of additional content. With that in mind, we want to reward those who are with us from the beginning by offering them a lower price initially.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to create an amazing near-future, Sci-Fi experience and would like regular constructive feedback from the community on the current game in addition to new feature and content requests. This will enable us to prioritize them in our development cycle. We plan on doing this by being active in the Steam forums and social media in addition to podcast episodes focused on game design in “The Game Design Dojo Podcast.” We're also looking into other channels of communication and will update the community when those become available.”

A Look At What's Ahead For Osiris: New Dawn

Greetings, Space Explorers!

It is with great joy that we are able to share the following information with you all. Please take a few moments to read through it, and feel free to leave us a comment.

Where We've Been...

For the past few months, our team has been heads down refactoring code, updating to a newer version of Unity and doing optimization passes that will drastically improve the core game. We’ve also been interviewing and hiring new team members who have extensive AAA experience and impressive track records in the gaming industry. Our team has grown from two to twenty-three members since its launch in September, 2016. We are investing time, resources, and money into making Osiris: New Dawn a game that we can be proud of and that the community will enjoy playing.

Where We Are Now...

Because we now have new senior team members, we have reviewed the core game many times, making major decisions about what the game needs in order to meet our expectations. This, in addition to the code refactoring, etc… meant that many things needed to be looked at in-depth, discussed, and decided upon. As is such, we have not been able to share a roadmap that gives the community an idea of when and where we are headed. Things have needed to remain fluid in order to avoid making promises that we may later be unable to deliver on. While we understand that the community craves information and uses it to keep faith in the development of the game and our company, we knew that giving even estimated dates would not have been wise until we knew internally what that roadmap exactly looked like, and that it would be one that we would feel confident in.

Where We're Going...

We are happy to report that we are now at a point where we feel confident in sharing some plans that we have for the game, and timeframes of when they will be delivered. We have created a high-level roadmap, highlighting major events that we have planned over the next few quarters. Please keep in mind that this is high level, meaning that not every tent pole will have an exact date. We are aiming for the given dates and/or time periods, but things may still change if need be. If something does change, it will be communicated to our community.

Our Roadmap

October 26-28, 2018:

The Fenix Fire team will be heading to TwitchCon to showcase a playable demo of Osiris: New Dawn’s new story campaign. Attendees will be able to meet some of our team members and play through a slice of what our campaign will be for 1.0 launch.

If you can’t make it to TwitchCon don’t worry, as the playable demo will be released in the Behind the Scenes Experiences branch of the game on October 29th.

December, 2018:

A Major Update to the base game will be released. This update will include three prongs:

Campaign mode - Players will be able to play the demo version of our new campaign mode, as showcased at TwitchCon. This demo will be moved over to the main branch for people who opt out of downloading the Behind the Scenes Experiences.

Survival Mode - In this mode your survival skills will be put to the test. Specifically in this update you will have multiple scenarios that you, alone or with friends, must tackle, achieve, and survive in order to succeed. The environments will be harsh and the creatures will be harsher. If you or your friends die or don’t achieve the goal, it’s Game Over, man!

Sandbox Mode - This is essentially the game that you have been playing all along, but with all the new systems (e.g., repair, traversal, combat, etc.) incorporated into the game. Unlike the Campaign and Survival modes, there are no missions to achieve. Instead, it’s about you, alone or with friends, surviving in the expansive planets within Gliese 581. For this update: you will have the classic mainstays of Proteus 2, Aziel, and Zer. But you will also be able to explore an entirely new planet as well.

Spring 2019:

Osiris: New Dawn version 1.0 launches!

With the 1.0 launch, you will have the full story Campaign, an even more robust list of objectives for Survival mode, and every planet in the game to explore in Sandbox mode.

This will give you, the community, time to play the update released in December extensively, and provide us with your feedback. And in turn, it will give Fenix Fire time to sort through the feedback, incorporate it into the game, and further polish and optimize Osiris: New Dawn for the 1.0 release.

As we travel this Early Access road, approaching our 1.0 launch, you can follow our progress on the Trello board. You can follow us on Twitter to take part in weekly chats every Tuesday from 2-3pm PT, and follow us on Facebook, where we also post regularly.

As always, we appreciate you being on this journey with us. We look forward to the future of Osiris: New Dawn with much excitement and anticipation. We truly hope that you, our community, will too.

Sixth Set of Behind The Scenes Experiences

Every astronaut can occasionally get lonely when isolated on an alien planet. The sixth set of Behind The Scenes Experiences provides a chance to try out some much needed sources of entertainment with two mini-games.

The first is a Chemistry Station mini-game, where players will be able to find recipe blueprints to discover and craft molecules and complex compounds. The purpose is to show you what we have planned for discovering certain compounds as well as crafting them. This will give more meaning to the Chemistry Station itself.

The second is a console game called “Gate of Osiris”. Players will make their way through a maze, finding resources and a key that will allow them to exit out of a gate, ending the game.

Give these mim-games a try and be sure to leave us feedback on the Steam forum.

Items To Note:
As always, these Experiences are not fully polished, nor are they guaranteed to be in the final version of the game. They are things that we are considering adding and rely on your feedback to help us gauge interest and collect your thoughts on what the community would like to see.

About This Game

The oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” – H.P. Lovecraft

Choose your class, join your friends and defend against indigenous wildlife and uncover the mystery surrounding the original Osiris 1 mission. Overcome the dangers of an alien environment and unpredictable weather conditions by building a central habitat, expanding the structure further with modular units to grow food, build a living quarters, and a manufacturing lab.
