Manipulation is a roguelite mini-RPG built like an escape room. It’s designed to be quick but challenging, small but immersive, and easily re-playable should you fail (you likely will).

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Our goal is to use Early Access exactly as we believe it was designed: To help us build a game our players will absolutely love. We want to spend the last bit of our game’s development fully embracing community input and new ideas. In game development, you’re often told to avoid something called “feature creep.” This is a habit often referred to negatively as developers tend to get too carried away with adding unnecessary or excessive content without actually finishing the game. Our goal will be to embrace a community fueled and player driven version of “feature creep” during our final stage of development. We’ll be actively encouraging players (via social platforms and an in game suggestion box) to share what they think should be added to the game. Our goal will be to implement as many experience enriching ideas as possible before our official release. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We only want the game to be in Early Access for about a month. Giving us enough time to embrace the community driven feature creep without getting too carried away with it. We also don’t want to be caught in a “will they/wont they” in terms of our game’s release status. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Ideally the full version will have quite a few new features and gameplay elements, with many or most of them suggested by players themselves.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game will be ready for Early Access on November 1st. It’ll be a fully playable game from beginning to end, but we feel like the game is missing something we can’t quite put a finger on. The act of avoiding feature creep early on in order to finish the game feels like it’s left a small hole in the overall experience. Which is why we like the idea of embracing a feature creep fueled by players!

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will remain the same. We’ll do a 20% off early access sale for the first week. And a 20% off release sale on the official release if Steam allows.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As mentioned above, we hope the community will be heavily involved in the development process at this stage. Early access players and our community on social media platforms will all be encouraged to share their ideas on how to make the game more fun! During playtesting we’ve implemented a “bug reporter” to allow players to report bugs without collecting any personal information. We’d like to do the same thing, but with a “suggestion box” (we may even build an in-game intractable version of this as well). Except this time we’ll also allow the player to put a social media handle, or something similar, and give full credits to any player who suggested an implemented idea, both on social platforms and in the game’s actual credits under a community feedback section.

About This Game

You play as a telepath trapped in a small facility whose only means of escape is to take control of the minds of the facility’s staff. The facility is aware of possible telepathic behaviour but is unaware you already have these powers.

You’ll need to be careful who you speak to, what you say, and how you act. Should the facility staff become too suspicious overall, you’ll be discovered. Unfortunately your powers are also very limited in your current state. You’ll have a limited amount of time in each mind. The stronger the mind, the less time you’ll have. Stay in a mind too long and you’ll cause a psychotic break, which will, of course, lead to your eventual discovery.

Balance your abilities to keep suspicion low, explore the facility, and uncover the truth about your existence as you find out how to escape from this unknown predicament.
