What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Even though as a guitar player I constantly use and test the tool myself, I think it would greately benefit from other guitar players's input and ideas. Different people might be at different stages of their ear training journey, so having them provide feedback and bring new ideas will make Gaps as good as it can be before being released.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“Four months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand on the early access version by adding more ear training features, which may include scale degrees practice, chord recognition and scale practice among others.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version contains a fully functional interval trainer. You can use your guitar as an input device to practice the ascending and descending intervals you want to. You can also choose between random and uniform interval generation modes. After a training session, you can view a summary of your practice and review which intervals you got right and which ones you got wrong.”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. After early access is finished price will likely be doubled as the tool becomes a full featured ear trainer instead of just an interval trainer.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I would like to constantly chat and involve the community in any discussion regarding new features, design, bugs, and any other thing they could help out with.”

About This Software

Gaps is an ear training software tool for guitarists. It uses your guitar microphone as an input for its exercises, so you will learn both to recognize intervals by ear and to find them on the fretboard at the same time.

Features

  • Use your guitar as an input device for the exercises.

  • Practice ascending and descending intervals.

  • Learn to visualize interval positions on the guitar neck.

To use your guitar with Gaps you'll need one of the following:

  • An external audio interface (Recommended).

  • A guitar cable to 3.5mm TS/TRS adapter and a microphone port on your desktop PC. (*)

  • A microphone plugged into your PC (Can also be a laptop's internal mic).

(*) Most modern laptops contain a single port for both microphone and headphones which only takes in TRRS cables. In this case you'll also need a 3.5mm TRS to TRRS adaptor. Keep in mind some laptop models sometimes fail to recognize an input device is plugged into their port because of limitations in their hardware. If you're using a laptop the only guaranteed way to connect your guitar is through an audio interface.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10
    • Storage: 20 MB available space
    • Additional Notes: You'll need to plug your guitar into an audio interface or to play into an internal/external microphone to use Gaps.
