What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Jeklynn Heights is an entirely self-funded game made by a couple of friends who work remotely. When development first started in 2010, we chose to use UDK (Unreal Development Kit). Creating a multiplayer game in a very atmospheric world was quite the ambition for our small team, so naturally between school and work the game took many years to reach its current point.

The Early access build is a glimpse of what our game could be with more funding, a newer engine, and a larger team. We’ve worked extremely hard to make sure the experience you have with our Early Access build is one that’s enjoyable, thought out, and re-playable.

Lastly, we deeply value community driven support. Great games are made when developers and players collaborate. Early Access allows us to get streamlined feedback on what we’re doing, and ways we can improve moving forward.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Approximately 1 year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our first priority is moving to Unreal Engine 4. This will technically give us the capability to advance core systems including improved User Interface, Matchmaking, Statistics, and do a total upgrade of all of our art/level assets. Most of our artwork was made years ago when we were first starting out. Being able to re-do core artwork will enable us to optimize performance moving forward.

The Early Access version is a snapshot of what this game could be with more resources. A full version would include more characters, maps, events, and team/clan oriented systems. What we currently lack in content, we make up for in attention to detail, quality, and an eagerness to make meaningful improvements based on community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“- 5v5 matched based multiplayer fun!
- 3rd person combat system that features melee, blocking, dashing, ranged weapons, and abilities
- 3 playable characters with unique skills and play styles.
- 9 game events, randomized every match.
- Atmospheric fairy tale map called Conflicted Caverns.
- 12 original music tracks
- Dedicated Servers
- Front-end chat system, in-game chat system, voice work, custom key-binding.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“After one year of being released on Early Access, Jeklynn Heights will now be entirely F2P. What's more important to us is that player's have the opportunity to experience the world we created, and hopefully share it with friends.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want the community heavily involved in shaping the direction of this title. Our first steps will be ironing out any major bugs or issues right after our Early Access launch. As we make our transition into Unreal Engine 4, we’ll spend that time assessing what worked, what didn’t work, and map out a game plan with our community. This includes determining what objectives to keep, maps to add, and character ideas to implement.

As our competitive scene grows, we’ll work with players on establishing a functional and streamlined match making system, clan support, and tournaments. For the past year, we have held regular testing sessions with a closed group of supporters. We have operated in a very transparent fashion, and will continue to do so during Early Access.”

About This Game

Synopsis

A corrupt and bizarre town is the quirky setting to Jeklynn Heights, a fantastical and competitive online game. Run by a Mayor with a split personality and enigmatic past, a spell haunts the town he rules. Players must complete objectives, directed by the Mayor, to win and escape the town. Combat is 3rd person melee, ranged, and ability based.

Match Setup

There are two teams in Jeklynn Heights - the rich and the poor. The objective is simple; leave town! During the beginning of the match, the Mayor introduces himself and calls out the first event. Events are mini-objectives which last a few minutes each. Objectives range from capturing points, killing targets, stealing from the other team, collecting resources, etc. The first team to win 5 events wins the match, and is allowed to leave the town!

The game is designed to be fast paced, focusing on team-based play, high action, and very short respawn times.

Combat Mechanics

Melee/Ranged Combat
Every character has a 3 swing melee rotation and a blocking ability. You may hold your blocking stance for 2 seconds to deflect incoming melee damage. Landing a quick block (blocking a melee attack within 0.5 seconds of using your block), will stun the enemy player and grant you an empowered swing that does bonus damage.

All characters also have a dash mechanic. Dashing propels you a short distance forward and grants you an empowered swing that does bonus damage. Dashing is a great opportunity to travel faster, initiate combat, or narrowly escape danger.

Additionally, you also have a ranged weapon unique to your character to make picking off fleeing enemies easier!

Abilities/Spells
Characters have 4 abilities centered around their specific archetype (tank/support/agility based). Abilities range from AOE damage, skill shots, disables, movement boosts, and buffs.

Mayor Events

Events are randomized every match. Both teams are competing over the same event. The first team to win 5 events gets to leave Jeklynn Heights!

The Mines

The mayor needs resources to help increase the appeal of his town. Teams rush to the caves to collect ore. The first team to get 20 ore wins the event.

Sanity Post

A new structure has been built in the middle of the map, but which side should it belong to? Teams fight to control the area.

Sanity Orb Tower

Each team has an Orb Tower located in their base. Infiltrate the enemy base, destroy the Orb Tower, and return the Orb back to your base.

King Me!

One random player on each team is now the King! They grow in size, and are slightly more powerful. Kill the enemy king while protecting your own.

Murderer on the Loose!

A deadly crime has been committed! Work with your team to capture clues throughout the map. Once all clues have been uncovered, a murderer will be revealed on the opposite team. Eliminate them!

Escort the Zeppelin

The Mayor has spawned a Zeppelin filled with explosives in the middle of the map. One team must escort the Zeppelin to the enemy base while the other prevents this from occurring!

Loot

One team has stolen a bunch of paintings. If that's your team, defend the enemy team from looting and returning them to their base.

Rescue the Inventor

One team has captured the Inventor of Jeklynn Heights. They must protect the cage from being destroyed, while the other team attempts to free the Inventor.

Brawl

In the event of a tie, a Brawl will take place between the two teams. The Mayor transports all players to a new location to begin their fight. If you die, you don't respawn. Last player standing wins it for their team!
