Adaptory is a 2D base-building/simulation game where your crew of four have crash landed on a mysterious planetoid deep in uncharted space. Using the planet’s limited resources and your creativity, you must keep your motley team alive, explore your surroundings, build a thriving base, rebuild your ship, and ultimately get home.

A unique cast of explorers

Your crew needs your help to survive – and tutorials will help you keep them fed, warm, healthy, and happy. Each explorer is procedurally generated with hand-drawn art, and has their own story to share with you and their crewmates, through social conversations and diary entries. By reading these entries you can learn about their goals and dreams, and help them thrive.

Design and build your community

Build barracks and bedrooms to help your explorers sleep, farms and kitchens to feed them, bathrooms and medical facilities to keep them safe, and hangout spaces and art stations to keep them happy. Set up electric networks to power up your machines, plumbing and temperature systems to keep everyone comfortable, and automation and sustainability systems to ensure your long-term survival.

Emergent systems and gameplay

Play with physics and chemistry simulations that include gravity, temperature, density, viscosity, phase transitions, and more than 40 different materials. Build solar panels to capture daylight, boil water to power generators, or emit excess gases into space. Each new game has procedurally generated terrain, characters, points of interest, and buried surprises for you to uncover.

Adapt to world challenges

As you dig deeper, the game will throw “random” events your way to challenge the design and resilience of your base. You’ll be faced with meteor showers, solar flares, earthquakes, aurora, relationship breakdowns, unexpected discoveries, and more. You're limited to eight explorers so your creativity and mastery of the environment will become essential. Can your crew and base adapt?

Discover what happened

Through diary entries, uncovered artefacts, system logs and conversations, learn more about the history of the explorers’ home planet Terra and your crew’s deep-space mission. Use the in-game database to connect the dots and understand what actually happened, with a rich backstory and lore by award-winning playwright Cassandra Tse.

Adaptory is an ambitious game combining base-building, realistic simulations, emergent gameplay, character development, and randomly-generated events, and is being actively developed with regular updates as we approach version 1.0 (see the full roadmap here).
