What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe that the game is in an enjoyable state with some unfinished features and content. Launching in early access will give the community a chance to experience and enjoy the portion of content that is finished, while giving us the time and resources to develop and polish the remaining features with much valued community feedback. Some features maybe unfinished or in a crude state, for instance animations, UI and character creation. We wish to make our game rich in experience and fun. We wish to be transparent with the development and involve the community in the development process.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game might be in Early Access for about 18 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add more content such as the return of the protagonist to a New Earth Biome. We have plans to add new materials, new mysteries, and new challenges. Currently, the crafting and building systems are limited to islands. We want to expand on the ship system and add building, decorating, and crafting on the ship as well. We plan on adding new ships and new land builds. For example, we want to add Castle building and decorating to our current building system. Other features such as full controller support, seasonal events, and additional game difficulty modes are also planned. The user interface and animations will also be improved.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The main features of the game have been implemented. Single-player and multiplayer modes are fully functional. The crucial part of the story is complete. The crash into Bermuda, the survival (split up into 13 unique survival challenges), treasure hunting, and the oceanic adventures are complete. The return part of the story is yet to be finished, but we have already set the groundwork for it. There are about 10 ships and about 400 items already in the game to be discovered and crafted. We currently have two building styles, tropical, and lodge with about 100 items and decorations (building pieces, artwork, lights, trees, shrubs, etc.) to build with. Players can craft ships in a bottle and travel together on the same boat or separate boats. Good things take time, and we want to make the best game we can.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The pricing for the full release has not been finalized yet, but it is likely that the price may increase moderately when we release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We wish to take community feedback seriously and improve the game based on feedback received. This may include new features, bug fixes or even new items and stories added to the game based on community ideas!”

About This Game

Forgotten Seas — Sign up for Beta!

Survive and rule the mysterious Forgotten Seas! You are lost in the Bermuda Triangle in a tumultuous time of Dread Pirates from the past - both alive, and dead. You must learn the lost art of crafting a "Ship In A Bottle" and turn the tide of a never-ending battle. Forgotten Seas features sailing, plundering, base building, treasure hunting, farming, trading, & Ship Combat.

When it comes to base building, Forgotten Seas features a beautiful base building system on stilts that allows you to build on land and in water! You can build a cute Island Tiki Hut or an entire Tiki Village for you or your friends. You can also build Log Homes or Lodges. Nothing gives a sailor more joy than pulling into their own dock near their beachside home!

The premise of the game is simple: Survive and find your way while facing myriad threats and mysteries. Land is scarce, ephemeral oceanic anomalies keep you on your toes, and mysterious islands appear and disappear. Overall, Forgotten Seas will test your planning, survival, base building and combat skills to the fullest.

While survival is the core of gameplay, crafting is an exciting and unique aspect of the game. In Forgotten Seas, you can craft a "ship in a bottle" and sail it too! You never know when having a handy "ship in a bottle" hidden in your backpack can save your life! You can craft simple war boats, spacious haulers, and fearsome cannon-bearing dreadnaughts and unleash them in the ocean.

Pirate Ship Combat

Combat in Forgotten Seas is a hybrid of land and sea. A sword in one hand, a musket in another, and a “ship in a bottle” hidden in your vest is your mainstay. The ship combat system gives a fully immersive visual perspective of the combat and a tactical overview when needed. Your speed and handling dictate how much damage you will take. Be watchful of the orientation of your enemies, or you will find yourself sinking your teeth into the full broadside of a dread pirate battleship!

Different ships have different strengths and weaknesses. You can craft and collect an armada of vessels to handle the various situations you may encounter.
The combat circumstances in the game take you through many exciting scenarios. One moment you could be raiding camps, sieging warships, and treasure hunting; another moment, you will find yourself stealing chickens, avoiding battering mountain goats, and running from the bad breath of a Sasquatch!

The hybrid dual-wielding combat system in Forgotten Seas allows players to have a melee and a ranged weapon (for example, a sword and a pistol) equipped simultaneously. Soften your enemy with a musket fire at range and finish them off with the sword, or Parry an enemy into exhaustion and find the right time to blow up some gunpowder. While the combat is simplistic and intuitive, you don't have to worry about combos and rotations; but in some situations, having the element of surprise in your favor can give you the edge you need.

Survival

Survival in Forgotten Seas is tricky. You must do what it takes to provide for yourself. You can hunt, farm, forage, fish, take shelter, and stay warm to revitalize and energize yourself. Forgotten Seas will present you with extreme survival situations and hostile conditions requiring your presence of mind and preparation in advance. Some unorthodox problems will keep you on your toes as well.

In Forgotten Seas, Habitable land is scarce, water is dense and exhausting, and the rain is acidic. Mysterious creatures and infamous Pirates of Bermuda roam free. Let alone you are stranded in the middle of a war. Your ultimate goal is to survive and find your way back to your time.

Anomaly & Treasure Hunting

Due to the temporal anomaly, some hidden islands randomly appear and disappear. These hidden islands rise from the depths of the ocean, for a limited time. They are rich in resources and hold the key to returning home. You can use your compass to travel to these locations. Be advised that chasing anomalies is risky, so make sure you have a mighty ship to sail on.

Lightening super storms, hurricanes, and acid rain are your enemy. While you usually can wait out the hostile conditions in a shelter by a fire, there are advantages to chasing storms or exploring out in hostile conditions. You can find valuable essences during storms, or a treasure washed ashore. There is a built-in acclimation system in the game. The more you endure hostile conditions, the more resistant to them you can become.

Throughout the game, you can find fragments of treasure maps as you explore different islands. These map fragments point to the location of great treasures. They can lead to Sunken pyramids and mysterious artifacts, or nautical bearings of a lost ship carrying gold and valuables. Once you have all the fragments, you can combine them at a cartography table to reveal the location on your compass.

Buildings

While habitable land is scarce, there are indeed some interesting places to call home. Gathering and Building in Forgotten Seas are crucial to survival. Buildings can provide shelter and many utilities. Buildings like windmills, silos, tents, smokers, and stoves etc. can be crafted and placed inside your base. User-generated structures allow for dynamic placement of walls, foundations, and roofs with the potential to create both simple and large builds.

Numerous decorations like lights, vases, trees, shrubs, and furniture are also available to make your hideout cozy and sturdy. You can paint your home in beautiful chalk paint colors to add a touch of vibrance to your lifestyle. So, feel free to build a tavern to hang out with friends, or park your boat right at the deck of your lodge, and lead a nomadic life of solitude and bliss.

Cooking and Farming

Cooking and farming are the bread and butter of the game! You can cook foods that give powerful buffs to help you succeed in your missions. You can also combine different foods to enhance their properties. For example, dry meat on a drying rack with some berries and mushrooms to make a pemmican meal or make some jerky with some papaya rub for a handy energetic snack. Smoke Prime Meat in a smoker or bake pies in your charming wood stove.

Seabiscuit and rum are your staples for long voyages. You can grow wheat, fruits and vegetables, sugarcane, grapes, and even hops! You guessed it. It is time to make some ale! You can also make rum, wine, brandy, and grog right on your deck. Drinks provide significant buffs that can help you survive different hostile conditions. Drink buffs can make you resistant to infectious scratches and take the edge out of cold weather or intense heat.

Trading

Gold is a great ally! You can restore a run-down seaport and begin trading commodities for gold. Crates of Spices, Tea, Wine, and Cheese are some of the tradable commodities. You can find these mainly through gathering and farming, but if you plan to be notorious, you can plunder some merchant ship. If you have some extra rum, ale, or wine leftover from your farming operations, you can also trade those. Be advised that pirate ships or hostile invasions can often block trade routes. A blocked trade route will bring your trading to a standstill. So be sure to keep your port safe and trade pathways clear.

Overall Forgotten Seas is a great combination of "chill" and "thrill". Come enjoy the island experience and may the winds be in your favor! There are Zen and relaxing moments, and then there are nail biting moments that have a way of surprising you. Nevertheless, feel free to get lost in the winds, peaceful sounds of the ocean, and some great music!
