“The Classrooms is a procedurally generated game with a nearly infinite number of potential level layouts and random elements. For this reason, player feedback is paramount as we hone in and finalize our procedural algorithms to ensure a game experience that's as reliable as it is unique and unexpected. The Classrooms is infinitely replayable, and never the same twice. Subsequent playthroughs during Early Access will not stifle enjoyment in the final release.”

“The full version of the Classrooms is planned to have key story elements enabled that Early Access does not. This is meant to keep key story elements from being revealed before the endings can be reached. As Early Access progresses, new environment types, anomalous entities, and anomalous objects are planned to be introduced. The procedural environment algorithms are also expected to be honed during Early Access so that gameplay can be as reliable as it is unique and unexpected.”

“The current state of Early Access introduces players to the game's protagonist, Robert Chen, who is armed with his VHS Camera (From which the game world is viewed). Robert is determined to investigate the local Canadian public school where multiple students, including his younger sister, have gone missing. However, shortly after entering the premises, he finds himself lost in a senseless and seemingly infinite maze of halls and classrooms. There are currently 7 procedural levels that are home to multiple malicious anomalies as well as a handful of less dangerous anomalous objects and entities. Find clues and uncover the mystery of The Classrooms.”

“Being a procedural game, community feedback is absolutely crucial to the development process. There are more possible random seeds than there are people on the planet, so it will never be possible to curate every variation. However, the more data and feedback we have the better we can hone our procedural algorithms. We are also very open to qualitative feedback regarding specific content as well, and will incorporate community feedback into the content design. The Classrooms

The Classrooms is a procedural, liminal-space, found-footage, survival horror game. In 1996, Robert Chen took his VHS camcorder to the newly condemned local public school to investigate the disappearances of multiple students, including his younger sister. However, shortly after entering the premises, he finds himself lost in a senseless and seemingly infinite maze of halls and classrooms. Discover the contents of the tape he left behind. Explore The Classrooms and discover the various anomalies it contains; from malicious entities to harmless oddities. And remember, it's different every time you play, so your found footage is uniquely yours.

Procedural World

The world of The Classrooms is fully procedural and different every time you play. Billions of possible layouts and procedural elements ensure a gameplay experience that's always full of surprises.

Entities

Watch out for the various entities that reside within the world of The Classrooms. Entities range from harmless to extremely dangerous, thorough investigation into their various properties will be paramount if one wishes to survive. Every entity has a deep and unique set of mechanics that differentiates it from all others.

Features

  • Proximity Voice: Sound from your input device affects the game world. Making loud noise can reveal your location to certain entities, but maybe you can use your voice to your advantage.
  • Inventory: Find and use various different types of items, codex entries, keys, and equipment. The items available to you might not be the same items available to another.
  • Entities: Discover and survive the unique mechanics of each of the entities.

Development Roadmap

We are dedicated to improving the game both in breadth and depth. The procedural levels will be given more details and combinations, and new anomalies and entities will be added as development continues. This will allow for many new gameplay situations to arise. Our main focuses are currently:

Some of the 2D art and music in The Classrooms were originally created with the help of AI tools, not as a replacement for artists, but to get the uncanny, slightly "off" look of AI-generated content. This was intentional, as it reflects the kind of strange content the Superstructure itself would make.

Our goal has always been to evoke that uneasy and almost-familiar feeling. To build on this while moving away from AI, we are now trying approaches like fan art contests to gradually replace this content, while still preserving this unique aesthetic.

For video and music production, we plan to collaborate with real people, though budget and scheduling mean this will take time. Our focus remains the development of The Classrooms, with Multiplayer being our current priority. Putting too much time into polishing these other areas right now could risk delaying such highly anticipated features.
