What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Last of Humanity is powered by a small development team of 10 (and growing). We decided on Unreal Engine because it allows us to present a Triple A quality title with our limited resources. Our time in Early Access will enable our team to focus on refining gameplay, netcode as well as updates for the game with custom models, animations and additional gameplay mechanics.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current estimate is between 12-36 months, depending on community feedback, gameplay features and funding of course. Last of Humanity will be updated monthly with a major update every 3 months. Quality of life patches will be added as needed throughout the game's life cycle. The content from our updates will range from new visual content, levels and additional functionality.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“While our early build has the base functionality implemented - the true scope of our game is still in development. Early access ensures that our scope could be reached while player enjoyment is preserved due to the incremental nature in which we can push updates.

Our goals are to expand in the following key areas:
  • Additional levels improving base functionality including
  • The addition of vehicles
  • Additional areas where controlling zombies is the focal point More weapon variety

Functions yet to be incorporated includes
  • 2 separate skill trees (1 for survivor, 1 for zombie)
  • A faction system to facilitate clans and guilds
  • In depth mechanics to improve the player experience
  • Expand our crafting and inventory system
  • Further expand the world size and points of interest
  • Scale up and polish existing functions

Provide modding tools so players can create their own custom experience for their community
Optimize netcode for a smoother experience even for lower-end computers.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Most of the planned core features have been implemented. Single-player and multiplayer are at a functional state and we have a separate dedicated server to allow for player hosting. We currently have 1 level, code-named The Underground, a forgotten underground city with limited supplies and broken buildings for shelter.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Due to the cost of operating a multiplayer service and the fact we’re not featuring an in-game store. Upon launch, due to the scaled nature of the game, We plan to gradually raise the price as we move out of Early Access. Pricing for post-launch content will be based on the scope of the DLC.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We’ve outlined a roadmap of how we plan to push content, and will keep the community updated via our social media outlets with a spotlight on our discord server. The best way to be involved with the games development and to give active feedback, is to join the games discord server (https://discord.gg/lastofhumanity). Being active on our Steam forums benefits not only our plans for game development but also by utilizing POGR’s built in ticketing system - we have a direct line for suggestions, bug reports and general communication.”

About This Game

Welcome to Last of Humanity, an online open-world sandbox multiplayer zombie survival game set in an alternate reality from our own. Come and survive together with friends and strangers as you attempt to rebuild society and remove the undead from your world. Take on zombies, natural hazards and starvation while controlling key locations to manufacture and produce equipment for you and your friends. Explore the world, rebuild society and forge your history as the Last of Humanity.

Last of Humanity can be played in full single-player, or persistent online multiplayer.

No one knows what happened. The spread of severe rabies and sarcoptic mange necrotic in nature began to appear in the news. It quickly became apparent this new disease would massively impact society. Rioting broke and paranoia of being infected spread like wildfire. In an attempt to contain the disease, severe government lockdowns were put in place which only fueled the fire resulting in civilians turning against each other sparking global civil wars. The pandemic continued to spread and nations turned on each other in an attempt to find the origin of the virus. Neighbors turned on neighbors, family on family. In less than a year, life as we knew it no longer existed. The need for survival became innate, civilization became irrelevant, but the need for community became standard. Now all around the globe factions have spawned in an attempt to survive as The Last of Humanity.

The world has fallen and the Dead now roam the earth. Only the few lucky ones survived, the rest were torn to pieces and converted into the very thing that ended their existence. Cities, towns, even the forests are now filled with the dead seeking to satiate a never ending hunger. Survival seemed hopeless, but around the globe pockets of life are starting to band together, attempting to rebuild humanity.
Slowly, factions of survivors began to clear out the zombie horde, providing a sliver of safety in an otherwise world full of danger. Out of pure desire for survival, humanity built their last stands out of the very earth itself. Communities much like the early days before modern civilizations formed focusing on farming, hunting, and crafting weapons. Hope of humanity lives to reestablish the life they once knew and to hide and even fight the undead terror unleashed upon the world.

You play as a Leader, trying to find a new place for the group of survivors you’ve managed to gather, attempting to find a suitable location to start a community. Once established, you must continue to explore the surrounding areas to discover valuable resources and to ensure your community’s survival. As you begin to explore the locations of Last of Humanity, you’ll start to unravel what truly happened to plunge the world into this sadistic nightmare. You may not be able to save those who have already fallen victim, but you may be able to save those still struggling to survive.

Join other Survivors in building new societies by taking over key locations and attempting to rebuild communities. Trade & Barter with other communities by traveling to other servers and create allies and life long friends. Fight enemies, raid bases, and travel across servers. Leave no stone unturned, as the dead (and living) are constantly watching.

Within Last of Humanity you’ll find key locations that allow you to produce highly sought after equipment and items that would be otherwise very difficult to find normally. These locations provide valuable resources, but are very dangerous to own due to their strategic value. Others will come, and attempt to take the facility over themselves, and loud sounds will attract nearby undead. It can be a great addition to your group, or the beginning of the end. Once taken, be prepared to fight.

Design and build fortified positions, collect resources, farm for materials, research to engineer better technologies and more. Unlock the rest of the world with the new items you’ve created, do whatever it takes in order to survive.
Create small locations or massive cities with inter-server bartering acting as the hub of this new society’s economic force. Whatever your choice of knowledge or interest, you decide it, you build it.

You can’t survive the zombie apocalypse alone. Form a faction or clan with like-minded individuals. Supporting each other from the never ending scorn of the undead horde and the wars with your remaining living brethren who attempt to make this new world succumb to their will. Travel the world and explore with your friends, hunt your enemies and enjoy the fruits of their labor. You as the player control the direction of how the game unfolds. Die in the battlefield, or rise above an assault and stand tall with victory as your legacy among your friends. You are the Last of Humanity, your story is waiting to be discovered.

Travel between servers to raid bases, find storage caches and rest in neutral zones (if any) . Last of Humanity’s server to server travel enables you to explore the world and create home within our world through factions. The choice is yours, you can always wander the globe raiding others or look for a cure.
