About This Demo

Notice: the current game name ("The Game of the Playful"): I agree that it doesn’t quite match the game’s theme and atmosphere. Actually, I plan to create a new application on Steam and upload the final English version there. This English version will have a separate Steam App ID. Due to the possibility of more mature content, this English APP may be restricted in Mainland China. You can follow this game now, or follow our developer page. Once the new application is created, I will also announce it on platforms such as itch, X (Twitter), and Discord.

Currently, the storylines for these six characters: Mo Ran, Yi Yanbin, Yin, Lance, Liu Xiao, and Si Chen, are translated. The translation was done by me and has not been professionally edited (beta-read). To access it, you need to manually select the "VersionEnglish" branch.

Please note that the demo has three different versions, under three different branches, and the default branch is in Chinese, not in English. 

You need to choose the "VersionEnglish" branch manually to download the English demo.

How to switch branches on Steam：

1. Add demo to your Steam library.

2. Right click on the demo game in your library, and click Properties.

3. Select the Betas tab, and select the branch you want to switch to.

4. Wait for the auto-update to complete.

We recommend verifying the integrity of game files if you have changed a branch.

The Game of The Playful is a visual novel created by one person (character art was drawn by outsourced artists). The engine used by this game is Visual Novel Maker.

In this visual novel, you'll play as the Heroine and experience sixteen individual stories. In each story, you will establish either friendship or romantic relationships with a man. All sixteen stories are independent from each other, so you'll be dating only one person in one story.

Game style and atmosphere: I aim to create a gentle, healing atmosphere that encourages empathy with the sorrow in the storylines. The game includes 16 individual story routes, each with a different female protagonist and her own independent identity and ending. Most stories involve the heroine confronting past trauma, and since each has a different background, their traumatic experiences vary. The overall tone is therapeutic, guiding players to face life with positivity and optimism. Most routes include both a friendship and a romantic ending with the male lead, and some have up to five endings (such as "Death Bad End" and "Stranger Bad End"), bringing the total to 40 so far. Player choices determine the outcome. I hope players feel a sense of gentle care, healing, and deep emotion throughout the game.
