What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Civil is still early in development. Early Access gives us a chance to involve our fans in the development of the game. This helps to give us a sense of what kinds of features the players want most.

In the future, we will have several different things. We are working on a bigger world, mini games, more immersive jobs, new items, art, and features. Our development team may have a lot of great ideas, but in addition to this we want to create even better additions based on community feedback. Community involvement fuels our work, and prioritizing this means we can create what the players want most.

This kind of community involvement is exactly why Civil: The Game is open to Early Access.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“About one to two years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The scope is very wide. The Early Access version is still technically a "testing version." Currently, the player is able to get a job, promote using karma, and collect money for their character. They can purchase items, customize their characters, and find items in the world such as guns. Players can trade, kill other players, drive cars, and sit in chairs.

The full version will offer similar features, but is planned to have a much larger catalog of jobs, a bigger world, real estate, more cars, and more buyable items.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Players have the opportunity to become criminals, police officers, mail carriers, and cafe workers. With these jobs, they can promote to entrepreneur jobs, city jobs, and even become mayor of the town. The criminals can promote into the mafia.

Players can attack pedestrians and other players. They can fire pistols or punch. They can also run players/pedestrians over with vehicles. Vehicles can be driven and can hold passengers so you can drive your friends around.

There are over 100 items that players can purchase and either consume or equip to their character. These items are sold through vendors or can be found in job lockers: career specific "storage containers."”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Since we are still in early development, our current Early Access price is for community members who want to follow gameplay development in a "hands on" way. Upon release, this price will likely change as our demographic will change to a wider community. We do not know how/if the price will change.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Involving our community is the #1 reason we've decided Early Access is the right choice for us. The community is one of the most valuable assets a developer team can have with this style of MMO. Players often have awesome suggestions, and we want to hear them.

Civil is a large game, and with that comes a lot of bugs. We can simulate as many tests as we want in-house, but the results are vastly different when there's a community playing vs. developers playing. We want Civil to be perfect, and Early Access is a great way to pinpoint the bugs that the players find before official release.

The community is also greatly encouraged to stream. Streaming will help build the community even more. We also want to hear from streamers what we can do to make their cinematographic experience better for their fans!”
