What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Since the initial release of our debut game, Meteorfall: Journeys, we've been regularly updating it with content such as new heroes, cards, difficulty modifiers and a daily challenge mode.

With Krumit's Tale, we'd like to start the player feedback loop even earlier. Getting player input earlier in the development cycle can help us better understand and improve upon what's working or what is not. Balance is so important to this kind of game, and our passionate existing community are always finding new strategies – so we hope the process will be fun for them as well as beneficial to the overall game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The core of the game is complete and features two playable heroes: Bruno (Direct damage, weapon / equipment based) and Greybeard (magic/ability board control based).

The remainder of Early Access will focus on adding and finely tuning additional heroes, their strategies, new ways to play such as Daily Challenges and other meta-games.

We anticipate to be in Early Access for 6 to 12 months before full release – and of course we will continue to support and update the game from that point on too (exact timeline will depend on feedback from users & any development hurdles encountered by the development team).”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“During Early Access, we plan to add the following features & content (subject to change):

  • Three additional heroes (Mischief, Rose, and Muldorf), each with more than 40 unique items and abilities.
  • A Daily Challenge mode with rule and leaderboard modifiers that change how the game is played.
  • Additional perks (hero specific and generic) to choose from.
  • Steam Achievements and Cloud Saves.
  • Lore Encyclopedia and more story/art unlocks.
  • Additional voiceover

Part of while we're doing Early Access is to develop a game that players are excited about. If players aren't excited about the features we've outlined above in this list, we reserve the right to modify the above roadmap during Early Access to include features that the community is more excited about, or to remove unpopular features. Our goal here is to take feedback from the community and build the game that players want to play.

As with any pre-release project, the actual roadmap and timelines are impossible to predict, and subject to change & risk. However, based on our track record of support and post-release content added for our previous game, Meteorfall: Journeys, we feel confident that we will be able to deliver an experience that our players want.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Krumit's Tale is already fully playable from beginning to end, and features two heroes (Bruno and Greybeard), each with their own unique items, abilities, and playstyle. There are more than 20 different fully animated enemies to fight, including 9 bosses. There are also more than 40 perks (passive bonuses you get after completing a dungeon) to choose from.

Each run is procedurally generated, so the dungeons, perks and cards you encounter changes and makes for a varied challenge each run. The game already has significant longevity and replay value even in its current state.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes - the price will rise once the game comes out of Early Access – by then, it will have significantly more content, polish and we’ll be working on adding more.

We also want to reward the early adopters who take a chance on Krumit's Tale and give them the best possible deal along with the opportunity to shape development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Feedback is absolutely critical and is the #1 reason we're launching in Early Access. Launching as part of Early Access means we can make best use of that feedback – especially while it's still possible for us to make significant changes to balance, gameplay and structure. We'll take any and all feedback – bug reports, balance, ideas & general suggestions.

We closely monitor our public Discord (meteorfall), Twitter (@slothwerks) and our subreddit (/r/meteorfall) for feedback (explicit or otherwise) about the game and to make sure we engage our fans wherever they prefer to be.”

About This Game

Battle the likes of sozzled bearbearians and nuke-addled snotwolves to protect our glowing green world from the sweaty hands of the Uberlich! Krumit's Tale involves the same core deck building mechanics as Meteorfall: Journeys and the same cast of overly optimistic heroes, but expands the ‘swipe’ mechanic into a dynamic grid based system. This means more depth and longevity – our heroes will have to choose perks to complement their deck-building strategy and carefully manage the board if they wish to triumph.

Features

Unique roguelike gameplay
Your hero starts out with a deck of basic cards (items & abilities). At the start of each dungeon, your hero's deck is shuffled into the dungeon deck (monsters) and dealt out in a 3x3 grid. Defeat monsters to earn gold, then use that gold to acquire your items & abilities from the dungeon. Remove a tile from the dungeon and a new one will be dealt out from the dungeon deck. After you clear a dungeon, you'll earn new, powerful cards to add to your deck as well as perks - passive traits that bend the rules of the game.

Colorful characters
The exciting and colorful cast of Meteorfall: Journeys (iOS & Android) returns in Krumit's Tale. Join your favorite heroes: Bruno, Greybeard, Mischief, Rose and Muldorf as they attempt to defeat the Uberlich in this exciting new adventure. You'll also meet Krumit, a mysterious shop owner who trades in magical artifacts. Why has he summoned you to his shop, and what secrets does he hold?

Unlockable heroes and cards
When you first visit Krumit, you'll only be able to select Bruno. After each run, you'll earn XP and automatically unlock new characters and cards. Krumit's Tale respects your time - you'll be able to unlock all of the content easily through normal gameplay, and never have to grind.
