In classical god game fashion, Tidal Tribe gives you the power to shape the terrain. Raise and lower the land to protect your village from floods and waves, all while using that very same water to build lakes and rivers, turning the desert land into a lush forest of trees and bushes.

Helpful video: Your first lakes

"Tidal Tribe - Tutorial (Timelapse) - Your first lakes" on youtube

I thought I'd upload a quick timelapse / tutorial / howto video to demonstrate my approach to shaping the terrain in Tidal Tribe. Just to give you a little inspiration on how to start. Because from what I've seen, a lot of people are making their life a lot harder than it is^^ As a general rule of thumb you want to build a channel towards the back, then build like a little irrigation system that lets the water flow through the terrain, back to the sea.

It also saves time if you concentrate on quantity first and on quality later: just go build lots of lakes to give your NPCs already some fruits to collect, then once that is done, you can check where certain plants are missing and do all the fine-tuning.

And the most important advice of them all: don't worry too much about the details! I know there's lots of graphs and numbers and everything but... most of those are really not that important. I just love statistics far too much, that's why I put them in. Sorry! (should have hid that stuff behind a "I love stats" button...)

Tidal Tribe is now available!

I can't believe it, but after 5 years of work Tidal Tribe is now actually available on Steam. I poured a lot of sweat and heart into this game. I don't know if it'll be successful enough to continue my gamedev career, but I hope that at least some of you will enjoy it :) Have a good time with it. If it brightens up your day, it was at least not in vain :)

Oh, and of course, if you have bugs to report or just wanna talk about the game, feel free to join the Discord server:

“Tidal Tribe takes a small mechanic from other simulation games and built itself around it beautifully. It’s relaxing to play, simple to learn but deceptively complex to master and it has a lot of content.”

About This Game

A God Game about Terraforming, Water and Farming

In classical god game fashion, Tidal Tribe gives you the power to shape the terrain. Raise and lower the land to protect your village from floods and waves, all while using that very same water to build lakes and rivers, turning the desert land into a lush forest of trees and bushes.

And these plants are the key to your success: different plants provide different fruits that satisfy different needs of your NPC's. But they have different growing conditions too: some only grow close to the sea, others far away, some need a lot of sunlight, others prefer shadowy hills. Your job is to create a world that provides enough of all types to satisfy the needs of your people and make their village prosper. Oh, and make sure the paths to those trees don't pass around a dozen lakes and mountains and stuff, there's no point in having all those plantations if it takes ages to reach them...

Features

  • Story mode with 5 main missions, several side missions, parkour maps (incorporating the terraforming), minigames, treasure maps, photo quests and other surprises. Oh, and different endings. However you shape the world, decides what path the story takes.
  • Generally just relaxing gameplay where you build your irrigation channels, shape the farmland, build paths and maybe collect some fruits yourself.
  • Free Game and Challenge mode (okay, that one's a bit less relaxing).
  • Completely dynamic worlds: shapeable terrain, waves flowing through said terrain (and possibly eroding it), vegetation growing depending on the terrain and water, villages expanding and shrinking.
  • NPC AI includes among others: collecting fruits, satisfying their needs, spending their free time, but also (if necessary, depending on the level and how you play): stealing to survive, guarding their plantations against thieves, fighting, waging war,...
  • Over four hours of original music.
  • Created entirely by one person.
