This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is between you and Blackcanes
("we", "us") and governs your use of Strange Video Editor, including its
bundled characters and assets and any updates (the "Software"). By installing
or using the Software, you agree to this Agreement. Your purchase and any
refunds are handled by Valve under the Steam Subscriber Agreement and the
Steam Refund Policy; this Agreement does not reduce your rights under those
policies or under applicable consumer law.
1. License Grant
Upon purchase, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable
license to install and use the Software on devices associated with your Steam
account, for personal or commercial video production. One purchase includes
ongoing use of the Software and free updates to it. Additional characters or
assets may be offered separately as DLC under the same terms.
2. Your Content
You keep all rights to the videos, audio, images, and projects you create
with the Software. Videos you export โ including videos featuring the bundled
characters and assets as rendered output โ may be used and published freely,
including commercially and on monetized channels. You are solely responsible
for ensuring you have the rights to any media you import, edit, or export,
and for the legality of your content.
3. Bundled Assets
The bundled characters, models, and other assets are licensed, not sold, for
use within the Software and within videos you render with it. You may not
extract, copy, resell, or redistribute the bundled assets as standalone
files, or use them to create competing products or asset packs.
4. Restrictions
You may not: (a) copy, distribute, rent, lease, or sublicense the Software;
(b) reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Software, except to the
extent this restriction is prohibited by applicable law or does not apply to
open-source components as described in Section 7; (c) circumvent license or
technical protections, or extract, abuse, or misuse any API access or
credentials used by the Software or its supporting services; or (d) use the
Software to produce unlawful content.
5. Local-First Software; Optional Online Features
The Software runs on your PC. Your footage and project files are stored
locally and are not uploaded to us for editing; we do not operate user
accounts or cloud storage for the Software. Camera and microphone features
(such as the 2D buddy's camera follow and local recording) process video and
audio on your device only and never upload them.
Optional features use the network only when you enable them:
(a) Pixabay stock search. Searches are relayed through our backend using
our approved API access: your search terms are sent to Pixabay to
fetch results, and media you select is downloaded to your PC. Use of
stock media is subject to Pixabay's Content License and API terms.
Stock media files are not bundled with the Software.
(b) On-device AI features. Automatic captions, background removal, and
object selection download open-source model weights from Hugging Face
on first use and then run entirely on your PC; the applicable model
and hosting terms apply to those downloads.
(c) Optional MP4 codec module. MP4 export prefers this PC's hardware
encoders. As a software fallback you may enable Cisco's OpenH264
codec in Settings; the module is not included in the installer and is
downloaded from Cisco's servers when enabled, under Cisco's binary
license (included in the Software's legal folder, together with the
terms it requires us to pass on to you). OpenH264 Video Codec
provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.
We may modify, suspend, or discontinue optional third-party-dependent
features if the third-party service changes or becomes unavailable. Further
feature-level notices are included with the Software in its legal folder.
6. Updates
We may provide updates, which may add, change, or remove features. Updates
are delivered through Steam and are covered by this Agreement.
7. Open-Source Components
The Software includes third-party and open-source components, including
components of Electron/Chromium that may be licensed under LGPL 2.1. Nothing
in this Agreement prohibits reverse analysis, modification, or relinking of
those LGPL components to the extent LGPL 2.1 requires. License texts and
notices are included with the Software in its legal folder.
8. Disclaimer of Warranty
The Software is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of
any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a
particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by
law. We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Nothing in this section limits statutory warranties that cannot be waived
under applicable law.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect,
incidental, special, or consequential damages, or loss of data, profits, or
content, arising from your use of the Software. Our total liability under
this Agreement will not exceed the amount you paid for the Software. Nothing
in this section excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable
law, including liability arising from our intentional misconduct or gross
negligence.
10. Termination
This Agreement remains in effect until terminated. It terminates
automatically if you materially breach it and do not cure the breach within a
reasonable time after notice. Upon termination you must stop using the
Software. Sections 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, and 11 survive termination.
11. Governing Law
This Agreement is governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, without
regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you reside elsewhere, mandatory consumer
protection laws of your country of residence remain unaffected.
