Most game licences tell you not to inspect or modify the game. That would make no sense here.

CRACKME.EXE is built around taking its challenge programs apart, working out how they function and finding ways to make them cooperate. This agreement gives you permission to do that.

The short version is simple: CRACKME.EXE gives you permission to mess with CRACKME.EXE. It does not give you permission to mess with anything else.

1. Who this agreement is between

This agreement is between you and Berihime Studio.

It applies to CRACKME.EXE, including its demo, Playtest versions, challenge programs, files and updates.

This agreement supplements the Steam Subscriber Agreement. It does not replace Steams rules or give you permission to interfere with Steam itself.

By accepting this agreement through Steam and installing or playing CRACKME.EXE, you agree to these terms. If you are not legally able to accept them yourself, a parent or legal guardian must accept them for you.

2. Your licence to use the game

Berihime Studio gives you a personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to install and play CRACKME.EXE through Steam or another authorized distribution platform.

You may use Steam Families or similar sharing features where the platform allows it. Anyone playing through such a feature is covered by the same terms.

3. What counts as a challenge target

In this agreement, a “challenge target” means something supplied or created by CRACKME.EXE specifically for one of its challenges.

This includes:

- Challenge executables and running processes
- Files, DLLs and databases supplied or created by the game
- Evidence files such as images, audio and local data
- Local web pages and services started by a challenge
- Network traffic sent between CRACKME.EXE components through your own computer
- Temporary or working copies you make solely to investigate a challenge

A challenge target does not include Steam, another game, unrelated software, another person’s account, a public website, another computer or anything else outside CRACKME.EXE.

4. What you are allowed to do

You may use external tools, operating-system features and scripts against the challenge targets on a computer you control.

For the purpose of playing, investigating or discussing CRACKME.EXE, you may:

- Inspect files and running processes
- Read and change process memory
- Open, copy, edit, replace or delete challenge files
- Inspect, debug, decompile or disassemble challenge programs
- Patch challenge executables and DLLs
- Inspect and edit challenge databases
- Capture, inspect, modify and replay traffic sent to or from the game’s local challenge services
- Write and run your own scripts against the challenge targets
- Find and use solutions that Berihime Studio did not anticipate
- Break your local copy of a challenge and restore or reset it afterwards

This permission is deliberate. You do not need to ask Berihime Studio for separate permission every time you inspect or modify a challenge target.

Berihime Studio can only grant rights over material it owns or is allowed to license. Any separately licensed third-party component remains subject to its own licence.

5. Where the permission stops

The permission in this agreement stops at the edge of CRACKME.EXE.

This agreement does not give you permission to:

- Inspect, modify or interfere with the Steam client, Steam services, Steam accounts or Steam’s ownership systems
- Use the game as permission to test another game, program, account, website, computer, device, service or network
- Point a challenge or external tool at something outside the challenge targets
- Make one of the game’s local vulnerable services accessible from another computer, a local network or the internet
- Use a challenge to access unrelated files, personal data or accounts
- Upload, sell, share or distribute the complete game or a working modified copy
- Share cracked executables or use the game without a legitimate licence
- Remove ownership notices for the purpose of passing the game or its assets off as your own

Something being installed on your own computer does not automatically make it a CRACKME.EXE challenge target. Other software and services have their own owners, rules and authorization requirements.

Nothing in this agreement decides whether an activity outside CRACKME.EXE is legal. It simply does not give you permission to carry out that activity.

6. External tools

Some challenges require software made by other developers. These tools are not made, bundled, installed or controlled by Berihime Studio.

Download them from their official publishers and follow their own licences and instructions. Their features, prices, system requirements and availability may change independently of CRACKME.EXE.

Some packet-capture tools may install a driver or request administrator approval. That requirement comes from the external tool. CRACKME.EXE itself does not need administrator rights and does not install drivers, certificates, services or changes to your security settings.

The game will never ask you to disable your antivirus, firewall or other security software.

You are responsible for checking where you aim an external tool before using it.

7. Videos, streams, guides and solutions

You may record, stream and publish CRACKME.EXE gameplay. You may also publish screenshots, reviews, tutorials, challenge solutions and technical discussions about the game.

You may monetize ordinary videos and streams through advertisements, sponsorships, subscriptions or donations.

You may share scripts you wrote yourself, explanations of your method and instructions for modifying a legitimate copy of the game. Do not upload the complete game, a working cracked copy, substantial collections of game assets or modified files that allow someone to avoid obtaining their own legitimate copy.

Do not claim that your content is official or endorsed by Berihime Studio unless Berihime Studio has agreed to that.

8. What you learn from the game

Berihime Studio does not claim ownership over the knowledge or skills you gain from playing CRACKME.EXE.

You may use those skills for lawful purposes, including education, research and testing systems where you have proper authorization.

Learning a technique from the game does not give you permission to use it against someone else’s software, account, device or network. Permission for that must come from the relevant owner, not from Berihime Studio.

9. Modified and broken copies

CRACKME.EXE expects you to modify things. It is entirely possible to break a challenge, corrupt a local file or make your current copy stop working.

You may need to use the game’s reset function, restore a backup, verify the game files through Steam or reinstall the game.

Berihime Studio is not required to provide technical support for a copy that no longer works because its files or memory were deliberately changed. This does not affect your legal rights if the unmodified game itself is defective.

10. Safety and unintended behaviour

The deliberately vulnerable parts of CRACKME.EXE are supposed to stay inside the game and on your own computer.

A challenge is not intended to:

- Listen for connections from another device
- access unrelated personal files
- install persistent system components
- change your security settings
- execute arbitrary system commands
- transmit challenge data or personal files to Berihime Studio or another company

11. Privacy

CRACKME.EXE does not send your challenge data, modified files, scripts or personal files to Berihime Studio or anyone else.

Steam may process account information, purchases, playtime and other platform data under Valve’s own agreements and privacy policy. Berihime Studio does not control that processing.

12. Ownership

CRACKME.EXE and its original code, artwork, writing, audio and other assets belong to Berihime Studio or their respective licensors.

Modifying part of the game does not transfer ownership of the original material to you.

Scripts, explanations and other original material you create remain yours, provided they do not contain substantial parts of CRACKME.EXE or third-party material that you do not have permission to use.

13. Responsibility and consumer rights

You are responsible for deciding which files, processes and systems you inspect with external tools.

To the extent permitted by law, Berihime Studio is not responsible for damage or loss caused by:

- Pointing an external tool at something outside the challenge targets
- Modifying unrelated software or system files
- Deliberately making a local challenge service available to other devices or the internet
- Using third-party software outside the intended challenge workflow
- Ignoring warnings or instructions shown by an external tool

Nothing in this agreement removes or limits rights that cannot legally be removed, including mandatory consumer rights, rights concerning defective digital content and any applicable Steam refund rights.

14. Changes to this agreement

Berihime Studio may update this agreement when the game or applicable
